Product Description

Grantwood Technology presents the tuneband armband for the 1st/2nd Generation iPod Nano®, which is the OLDEST NANO MODELS. These models were released in 2/2006 and 9/2006, in 1GB/2GB/4GB/8GB models. This is NOT the skin for the latest iPod nano, which is the 5th generation. We do sell skins for the older models you can search Amazon for Grantwood tuneband for those.

The silicone skin is secure, thick and protective and allows access to all the ports on the iPod Nano®. The tuneband has a comfortable stretchy Velcro® band that fits both large and small arms. Also, the tuneband comes with a low tack peel screen protector.

Finally, the tuneband is compatible with the Nike+iPod system, allowing you to attach the Nike+iPod receiver to the iPod.

Since I bought this for my wife's iPod I can't comment on the comfort or function of this strap, but I can comment on the quality of its construction. The silicone skin is flexible and easily stretches to fit over the 2nd generation iPod my wife owns. There is an opening in the bottom of the skin for the Nike+ attachment, just as advertised. The band comes with simple picture instructions that are easy to follow so you're sure to thread it properly as it is intended. The velcro portion of the band is long so its likely to fit most arm sizes. The packaging also came with thin plastic screen protectors for the LCD screen and the control wheel, which also perfectly fit the 2nd gen iPod. This product is just what I expected from the description.

A friend mentioned the Nike+ to me, and he raved about this product. I have to say, I love it as well - not only does it have great features on an iPod, but the Nike+ website is fantastic. I'm able to see routes in my area through a Google Maps app, select a coaching/training program based on my goals, and track all of my workout activity.

The only thing preventing me from giving this a perfect 5 is a big drawback. On about my 6th run, my iPod froze and I had to reset it, losing my workout. Once, no big deal. But unfortunately it happened 2 runs later. Doing some research, I found that there are MANY others with the same issue and it has been unresolved for several years. Given I was following a coaching program I wanted to make sure I recorded everything I did on the Nike+ site. There are a few websites that show how to hack your iPod to recover your run (by copying another similar run) but it is somewhat painful to do.

All in all, great features, great concept - just wish it worked 100% of the time. We'll see how much it gives me grief over the long haul.

I was looking for something to get me motivated to exercise again. Look no further-this little guy is the bomb! I've had it for 10 days and have gotten my mojo back. I actually look forward to working out. The voice prompts and timings are much more important than I would have thought...very motivating. Today Lance Freakin' Armstrong congratulated me on my run, since it was "my longest run to date". Maybe silly, but hey, if it motivates you to work out, how can that be bad? I have been recommending this to everyone I know, and I'll add my 2-cents here. Oh-and ran a 5K this weekend...distance on it said 3.11 miles. How's that for accuracy?

I am very satisfied with this product. There is no interference with the buttons on the ipod which is perfect. The ipod is protected from sweat and dirt. The only negative that I have experienced is the armband is a little too tight for me. If you have bigger arms you may want to consider getting a longer band.

The product is bright, easy to put on and very comfortable! But I am mostly impressed by the company. I ordered a slip for the 5th generation on accident (I own a 4th generation). I e-mailed the company and they were very quick with a response (less than 12 hours!). They are sending me the correct-sized cover slip (not including the armband), free of charge. Very cool! I will definitely shop with them again in the future.

Love this armband. I spent a lot of time researching which one to buy since I have smaller arms and I was worried about it being too big. Fits great and stays in place for light and medium workouts. I was a little worried about the Velcro not holding, but I have had no issues with that. I didn't put the protector over the wheel, but it is easy to adjust volume and change songs.

I bought this product to use with my ipod. It came in a variety of colors and was just what I was looking for. I had read reviews of similiar products, and for me, a main concern was that I wanted to make sure the pouch stayed in place. I did not want to have to worry about it flopping around or pulling my shoe laces loose. It did none of those things. I am really happy with this product and have recommended it to others.

I was hesitant in buying this product because I had read from reviews that a velcro type case is not good since grip will deteriorate after some time. However, after almost a month, I see no problem. I still have the same grip and the sensor is securely stored in the case. I even find it hard removing the sensor after each work-out, so I just keep it in the case until today.

I see no problem with velcro type casing so far.

Highly recommended.

5stars - "Velcro Type, Not A Problem" (juncay)

Before I got this, I had a case for my Nike+ iPod sensor that you had to lace through your shoelaces. Now, I use my running shoes for walking around occasionally because they're comfortable, but I don't want some huge lumpy ipod sensor sticking off my shoe when it's not doing anything. But it was a pain in the but to get that thing on and off. This one is SO much easier - just slip it under a couple rows of laces while your shoes are untied, velcro it closed, tie your shoes and you're off. it comes off just as easily once you're done running and untie your shoes, too. i've used it hundreds of times and it's never come off when I didn't want it to, and the sensor fits in there snug as a bug in a rug.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep lifting up the insole of the shoe to insert/remove the Nike sensor so I got this case. I guess that your laces have to be on the tighter side to make sure that the sensor picks up your movement because I only got .78 miles acknowledged on my 2+ mile jog/walk; I don't have loose laces--I just don't tie them tight. I was pissed because the ONLY reason why I even go out to jog/walk is because I get to record my sessions on the Nike+ website (I find absolutely NO joy in jogging/walking). Instead of "risking" another mis-measurement, I just put the sensor in the shoe (I take the sensor out because I use these shoes for every day use too and the instructions said to take out the sensor to save battery life); I have had no problems with the sensor when it's in the shoe. I have a friend who described the same kind of situation with the case and even went further to say that it can vary from shoe-to-shoe!

It's now April 2010 and for over 6 months now, [...] has yet to get this ish together. The site totally sucks. If you're looking to upload your runs and share with friends and all that greatness that Nike makes is seem to be, then don't waste your time. You're not able to search for your friends, sync your email contacts, you get errors when syncing in with facebook and twitter. It syncs fine from your ipod/iphone to itunes but once it gets sent to [...] is when you get screwed. I've been searching through all the threads and forums and they say they're working on it but over 6 months? For now, I would just skip buying this sensor and just download an app. Don't believe the hype, there is no friendly nike online running community. Seems like everyone is getting these issues.

I have used this system for 26 months and around 2600 miles. Overall it is OK. I was looking at upgrading to a Garmin but based on those reviews, I don't think it would be that much better, and not worth the cost. It generally works as advertised but I have had to work around a lot of shortcommings.

The most irritating thing is that it just stops recording mid run. I have purchased three sensors thinking this would fix the problem. It did not. I found that carring it in my pants pocket causes it to cut out most of the time. In cold weather, I carry it in my hoodie pocket with no problems and in the summer I carry it in a SPI belt with no problem. I don't like wearing it on an armband because it would be nearly impossible to see and manipulate while I am running.

It is reasonably accurate. On my last two half marathons, it was 99% and 98.25% accurate respectively. Read the Garmin reviews, this is about as good as any unit can claim. Mine reads high meaning I don't run quite as far as it says. It is hard to calibrate any more accurately. If you run with runners who are faster or slower than you, it will be off. If I run with someone much slower, it says I went much furher than I really did (known courses). The opposite is true too. It reads up to 10% too high on treadmills (assuming they are accurate). For me the problem with this is I really don't know my pace. Two percent might not sound like much but try to run 2% faster (because of not really running what you thought you did) for 13 miles and it means a lot. I have learned to add 12 seconds per mile to what it says to know my true pace. Many reviewers of the Garmin report no better accuracy, or even worse.

It is a pain to start and stop. In a race, have everything ready and then just push the start button. But you can't set it up too early or it times out. I start about 2 minutes before the gun. Stopping is nearly impossible with sweaty hands. My fingers just slip around the ring. My solution, just pull the sensor out at the end. It works. I have to wait until later to see totals because 1) the screen is impossible to read in the bright sun and 2) my hands are still sweating and it still won't respond.

You can track pace by looking at the unit but unlike the Garmin, it won't warn you if you are going too fast or slow. This alone is not worth buying a Garmin.

Synching works ok but it took me awhile to get used to it.

Sometimes songs on i-tune don't download right. Sometimes I get three copies of one then another cuts off in 20 seconds. Probably 95% download ok.

If you turn off the sensor like you are supposed to while flying, it is hard to reactivate because there is no way to know if it is on or off without walking around. If off, because the button was not pushed right, then you pull it back out of your shoe. I just accept this might take 10 minutes in the hotel. Do it the night before.

In summary, it works, but takes time to learn and willingness to work around some problems. I use it 3-5 times per week for the last 26 months. I would not want to be without it.

I purchased this item when I first got into excersising about 2 years ago. I walked and did the precore at the gym and weights. So needless to say I didn't get much use out of it, (doesn't register on precore). But recently I started walking 10 miles once a week and wanted to see how long it took and how far I went. It worked really well.

Then last month I have decided to run a half marathon. So I have been on the tread mill and occasionally remembering to turn the program on when I ran. THEN LAST NIGHT I made myself run for 30 minutes on the treadmill. The machine said I went 2.20 miles at about 14 minutes a mile. Frustrating.

Then I looked at my Ipod and it tracked me at 3.03 miles @ 9.46 A MILE!!!!!!!!! WHAT A DIFFERENCE FROM THE TREADMILL!

So if you want accurate results and a good ego boost, go buy this item ASAP.

If you don't have the Nike shoes not a problem, they sell little pouches for the sensor to fit in, then you put on your shoe laces.

The Nike Ipod is a great tool for keeping you on track for running. I'm a biker as well as a runner and I never ride bike without my faithful cateye odometer keeping track of milage and speed. Naturally I was attracted to the idea of having a way to keep track of speed, milage and frequency of my runs.

I bought this expecting to find a complicated setup process but was surprised to find out it's actually very easy!

The best thing about this is that it's like having a companion to run with. I would like to suggest when using an ipod do this little trick I discovered on some of my mountain bike excursions. Get a set of sport headphones that have the wrap around ear things. Don't bother with the ipod earphones, they are fine in a seditary possition, but they tend to fall out when running. The sport earphones stay in your ears. In addition to this I suggest taking the cord of your earphones and instead of having them in the front of your chest, run the cord down that back of your shirt or jacket from your ears to ipod. This keeps the cord from dangling down in front of you and gives you the music you want with less annoyance.

Also one more thing, invest in the Nike Ipod Soundtrack. I have to say, I bought the "Original Nike Drive" music with The Chemical Brothers and it's fantastic. I think I have a bit of that "Clockwork Orange" mentality now, because I've been listening to the music for over a year now, only when I run and when I hear the first crash of sound from it I instinctively start running.

Other than that I suggest taking advantage of the great online community. Nike developed a "mini-me" concept that includes an animated charactor designed by you. One you sign on (Free) you can save the info as a screen saver and they were smart enough to put all your milage and last run info on the screen saver. They really thought of everything! Also the funny part about the Avitar is that he actually adjusts to your running habits. If you are running alot he is happy, jumping for joy happy. If you miss a few days running you'll find him board, playing paddleball, looking bummed out and playing video games saying things like "I sure could use a run etc..." It's actually fun and a great psycholocial reminder to get off the couch and run!

i seriously bought this thing like THREE YEARS AGO, maybe four. It still works, but the silicone case is starting to tear. And I am back to buy another one, because I know it works for me. My only complaints after all this time: the elastic has worn out a little bit after so much use (3-5 days/week) so now I have to wrap it more and more tightly, and the aforementioned tearing case. It still works, but I want to buy one just because my nano (2G) is so old now that I'm afraid I won't be able to find these for much longer. Heck, I'm tempted to buy 2.

I think I had the screen protector on at some point but I thought it was more of a hassle than it was worth, so I just use it without. It works with the Nike+ iPod thingy sticking out of the bottom and if you have super long earbuds, they wrap easily around the back of the ipod so they don't bounce around all over the place and annoy you while you're running.

Definitely recommend this - not like a lot of people are in the market for a 2G nano case, but hey - you never know! :)

The sport kit is easy enough to use but even after calibration on a treadmill, the distances it logged were still off by 5% to 6%. If you just need a rough estimate of your training runs, it'll work fine. If you're more serious about your times and splits, you'll have to look elsewhere. Mine died after a year and I didn't bother to replace it.

I have 1st and 2second generation nano. The sport kit will not work with either. went to apple store and was told it will not work with any nano but the aluminum back nano, which cannot be bought any more.

Don't waste your money. The other reviews are just electronic store review salesmen.

Go to an apple store and ask the question. What apple product currently sold will the sport kit be compatible?

Close to perfect and the best iPod nano case+band I've been able to find.

Silicone case provides the right amount of protection from drops, bumps, etc...

Arm band is comfortable and easy to put on/take off.

Only gripe is the screen protector. It is too big and its edges overlap the metal part of the iPod, making it easy for the screen protector to peel off, collect dust and dirt, etc... They should trim it down so that it fits just inside the edges of the screen, not overlap them or touch them.

Fortunately, Grantwood has some of the best, no-hassle customer service I have ever experienced and the problem with the screen protector was taken care of right away.

I searched for literally 4 hours for a case that is moderately dustproof and water resistant, reading reviews on amazon and other running forums to decide on the best case to take running with me. I had a couple of specific requirements - that it be durable, protective in harsh environments (i.e. - the desert), comfort and "staying ability" (no movement on my arm, but not cutting off circulation to do so), and the ability to use the Nike + iPod dongle. From the multiple reviews on Amazon, I was suprised to see that this case was priced so low.

I made it a point to read as many reviews as I could about the armbands Nike specifically makes for the Nano and Nike+, expecting that a similar case would cost as much and deliver superior results. In every instance, I kept coming back to the Tuneband and finally acquiesced. I'm glad I did; here's why:

- The weight and profile are kept to a minimum. I ran with this underneath my shirtsleeve and didn't even notice it was there. The instructions recommend placing the iPod at your tricep while exercising to minimize interference and that advice worked very well for me as I ran.
- The skin covers everything it needs to in order to protect the iPod without making the ports inacessible. The ports and hold switch are guarded by a lip that runs around them, but still accessible while running and doing it blindly.
- The armband is completely covered in a low-nap velcro that holds well, so will work for every arm size.
- It came with a screen protection film and trackwheel protection film included.
- Before it shipped, I received an email from the company double-checking that I ordered the exact skin I needed and shipped without delay.

As stated in other reviews, it's not particularly meant for regular removal except for periodic cleaning. That doesn't bother me, as this iPod is used solely for exercising, but in practice, it shouldn't be a big deal as all ports are easily accessible - you'd just have to deal with the armband while not exercising.

Performance of the product, low price and the limited exposure to their customer service would lead me to recommend this to anyone looking for an armband for their Nano.

I already owned one of these arm bands and absolutely loved it so I bought one for a friend. Once I gave it to my friend I realized I had purchased the wrong "model" (I bought 5th generation and needed 4th). I contacted the company to see how I could exchange it for the correct one. I immediately recieved a response from the co-owner Sean. He told me that he would send me the correct "model" of the case for no extra charge. He also told me to just find a good home for the case that was the wrong size. Phenomenal customer service...which is hard to come by these days.

Side Note: I have bought the Nano armband, the iPhone arm band, and the thing that attaches to your shoe to hold the Nike iPod sensor, all from Grantwood Technology. All three have been incredible products that I have had 100% satisfaction with.

excellent product with excellent sound.

Some minor dislikes:

when i do bench, the headphones pop slightly forward, so i wish the neckband weren't as long.

not a big fan of the bright green colored cord. a dark color, like black, would have been a better choice.

when laying on my stomach for inclined shoulder flys, sometimes i will rub the volume wheel up, and the music will be blasting in my ears til i turn it down, so i kind of wish you could lock the volume wheel or it weren't there at all...besides who wants to ever adjust the volume more than once after it's at the right volume...all of my ipod songs are volume-synced, so i have no need for the volume wheel.

These headphones are not ment for the gym. Obviously since they go around the back of your head, they're not ideal for benching and stuff like that. These are ment for serious distance athletes: Marathon runners, century cyclists, ironmen. I've never been more happy with a pair of headphones. Not to mention, when your done with a run, you can rinse them off which is very convienent. They fit good enough to stay in my ears when my mp3 player is suspended from them, but somehow not tight enough to cause pain after hours or wear. I could go on about the fit but i think you get the point. The sound quality is good enough. I say it that way because its not going to sound as good as earbuds that funnel the music into your ear canal, but they do sound very good and muffle out surrounding noise (im not responsible if you purchase these and get hit by a truck because you werent paying attention.). The only negative i have about them is this: It rarely happens but when its a really humid day out and am running for a couple hours, sometimes the sweat will soak up into one of the earphone foam covers and create a barrier inbetween the my ear an the earphone resulting in no sound. Like i said, it rarely happens. it only happened a handful of times in the past 3 months of running with them. no product is perfect. but this one definately takes the cake as far as sport earphones. i highly recommend them.

Look in the manual of these headphone and they show a picture of how these headphones are supposed to fit over the ears.

Wow--who has ears that big? These headphones do not fit well because they always want to slip further backward. The band in the back wants to keep falling onto the back of my neck, and the ear supports keep slipping past my ears. I wish these were adjustable in some way.

Also, I agree with what most people said about the cord. Awkward size.

3stars - "Adequate Sound Quality....Subpar Fit" (James Diamond)

I have owned the previous model (PMX80) for many months now... and consider them to be nearly perfect for running. EXTREMELY comfortable, great sound... but cord was much too long (for neckband or arm band mounted iPod Shuffle)... and even too long for waistband. And, sweat would eventually seep into the drivers and mute them. (By the way... the loooong cord is a GOOD thing for treadmill running.)

The Improvements...
This model (PMX680) comes with a very short cord... perfect for neckband / armband mounting. (It includes an extension with volume control... I don't use it.) Also, no hint of suffering drowning by sweat. Bass is much stronger due to much better acoustic coupling to ear canal (more on this later).

Oh Dang... not quite perfect yet...
The PMX680 does not include the same reflective patch on the back of the neckband that the PMX80 has... too bad, the more safety the better. Also, the improved acoustic coupling is a mixed blessing for me anyway... with it, I enjoy improved bass and much reduced outside noise, which seems like a good thing... but for a street runner, hearing cars / runners / cyclists / angry dogs coming up on your rear is a *better* thing.

Some day...
Same awesome light weight design, superb fit and sound quality. But it will include rear facing high intensity LED flasher, and will include active noise cancellation that can be adjusted to include as much / little ambient noise as you see fit. Will also whisper encouraging words into your ear when your pace starts to fade... ha ha ha.

I started my research on wireless headphones with the motorola rokr. I purchased it through amazon and found them to be very uncomfortable with a tight fit. The sound was decent. However, the forward and back buttons didnt work so i returned them. Then i found these Addidas PMX 680 sport headphones. Once i received them i was pleasantly surprised by the easy packaging and innovative design. If you use nike+ or run with an ipod or iphone these are the headphones for you. They even feature a light reflector on the back when you run in the late hours of the day.
