This Is It is more than a concert. It gives a feel for what his last concert might have been like, but it also takes you through a bit of the creative process for each performance that was being created. It gets to the heart of what Michael was like at work. You walk away with the feeling that you really know a little bit more about what Michael was like, not just what you've been blasted with by the media. You meet some of the finest dancers in the world. You see ground breaking special effects that have never been used in a concert before and it makes you wonder who will now be the first to incorporate these things into a live show since Michael didn't have the opportunity to share them while he was alive. It is great to see Michael Jackson, not at the end of his career, but at the top of his game. One of the great movies of 2009 even if the Academy didn't include it among their considerations as a nominee.

So glad that they released this DVD, even though it was only rehearsals. Truly showed how he was & was totally in control of these concert/performances. This DVD answered a lot of questions for a lot of people, Plus gave us some closure as well. He was abused most of his life & never had a childhood. He was very good at performing & nobody could take his place. He was a wonderful man & a wonderful father. That loved his children, life MUSIC, family, Earth, Trees, Animals and especially HIS true devoted FANS!

it was very well put together.

Glad they released this. Wasn't really a huge Michael Jackson fan, but do enjoy his music. I feel this gives a good look at the elements of Michael Jackson we didn't see much of. He was a hardworking guy and the talent he had, although natural, was greatly improved by this work ethic. Also does a good job of making you see him as a normal person, with problems like the rest of us. Brought in a human element better than the other things I've seen on him. It was interesting for several reasons; those are just a couple. If you're a Michael Jackson fan, I feel you'll really like his. Even if you're like me though, just a fan of a few of the songs, I feel you'll find it worth a look.

I bought this from the Family DVD Warehouse and it came fast! Packaging was great and everything seemed fine. The DVD freezes in one spot though. We have tried cleaning it and everything but every time the movie gets to that spot it freezes and acts up. Other than that everything is great. We bought this movie so we could watch it before seeing the new one in theaters (which was really good!) =)

While Tim Burton's rather shameless breakdancing ripoff of The Looking Glass Wars and American McGee's Alice has been shaking up the box office, you cannot deny the classic visual ecstacy of the 1951 Disney animated movie. I'm really suprised that Disney didn't bother giving the live-action sequal/reboot a different title, at least to seperate it from the original. Although the more recent film seemed like Disney was just rehashing their Return To Oz premise but with Lewis Carroll's work. But, it is still impossible not to enjoy their classic first shot at it.

Taking place in England(probably in the late-19th Century), young Alice is bored out her mind listening to her sister trying to teach her history. She then follows a slightly anthropomorphic White Rabbit down a hole, but instead of ending up in Bugs Bunny's place, she enters a "dimension of sight and sound". After having emotional problems with a chatty doorknob, she washes up on the shores of Wonderland. She's then thrust into a caucas race, forced into a dream sequence by pushy twins, wrecks the Rabbit's house, and gets pestered by pushy flowers, all while having some serious height issues. Fortunately, a poetic caterpillar gives her some good mushrooms(?), and Alice manages to stabilize her size. The enigmatic Cheshire Cat then leads her to the highlight of the movie, the Mad Tea Party(you can't not love the Doormouse freaking out!). After a little more wandering around amongst the bizarre forest animals, Alice does something that most Disney heroines do, and realizes that her own world was better after all, and decides to try and get home. The Cheshire Cat shows up again and leads her to the loudmouthed Queen of Hearts who has a serious decaptiation fetish. Instead of getting her head chopped off, Alice is given the weirdest trial outside of Judge Judy. She then proceeds into the craziest Benny Hill-styled chase in animated film history, and wakes up because the whole thing was just a dream(or was it?).

For the lucky 13th of Disney's full-length cartoon movies, this broke alot of molds for them. First off, it was actually a meltdown of more than one book, while being mostly from the Alice In Wonderland book, there are segments from Through The Looking Glass too, but they manage to bring it together in a coherent way, which is suprising considering the source material. The other great aspect of it was their use of allowing the visual elements and music tell most of the story. It was to date their most colorful and lively animated movie to be released, only succeeded by Sleeping Beauty. While it isn't out to ram some overly-Christian morals down your children's throats like most Disney films, it remains as fun family feature, and one of the best cartoons to get totally stoned to!

My husband and I made two small bedrooms into one large Master Suite. We used one side of the room as a huge walk-in closet. We ordered two sets of the Rubbermaid Configurations 4-8 ft Deluxe Custom Closet -- One for me and one for him. Shipping was free and arrived in less than 5 days. I had read other reviews about missing parts, so I made sure to carefully inspect upon opening (everything was included in both sets). Each Custom Closet took my husband about an hour to install. He said it was pretty easy/user friendly. I have ALOT of clothes and was worried it wouldn't all fit, but I was thrilled to see that I had room to spare once everything was up and put away. The screws and brackets are sturdy/strong and show no signs of sagging or pulling away from the wall. We are both very satisified w/ our purchase.

We purchased two systems in hopes of streamlining our walk through closet space. Like other reviewers, we found systems priced to nearly $1000. We ordered the systems through Amazon and they were promptly shipped and received. As the closet was already opened and free from other items, it only took us about 1.5 hours per side to install the products, play with the shelves and setup and make a very functional, minimalist but visually pleasing walk through closet. The parts were well marked and the instructions clear and easy to understand. We found that even with a seven foot space to work with, we had plenty of extra components from the basic system.

Purchased this neck "support" pillow after reading all the reviews about how well it works. I'm not sure if I received the same product as the folks that left positive reviews for this piece of foam, but it did not work for me. I wasted my money on a pillow that does not maintain it's shape when I lay my neck on it and my back felt worse in the morning than when I use my homemade towel neckroll. Seriously, save your money--or better yet ask a friend if you can borrow theirs....chances are they're NOT using it.

This may be a good product for some, but I can confidently say it isn't for everyone. Not only didn't it work for me as claimed but it seemed to make things worse and I stopped using it after a couple of weeks. Interestingly, the label on the container does say that this product may produce bloating and gas. Too bad the maker of this product doesn't have a smaller, trial size so you don't have to spend 30 bucks to find out it's of no use to you.

CVS stands for Chronic Vomiting Syndrome and there is actually a support group on line for this. This product was recommended as a possible preventative for CVS. At that point I had nothing to lose. This is the second time I made this purchase and I haven't had a single "episode" since taking it. I tried stopping it for a few days to see and got queazy. Needless to day, that determined my second order. I put it in my juice in the morning and there is absolutely no taste or side effects.

I bought this book because I wanted to see code that successful iPhone developers had written. I guess I was looking for "best practices" sort of information and I was hoping that I might get insight on how to tackle some problems I have run into when developing my own applications.

Book Flow

The biggest disappointment in this book is that developers wrote it (I am assuming). The book lacks the continuity you would normally find when one or two people collaborate on an entire book. When a different person writes each chapter, you get seven different styles in this book. I found a couple of the chapters very well written, but the rest I found to be, well, written by developers. I'm not saying that developers are inherently bad at writing, but it takes a certain something to relay information to other developers effectively. Most of the writers of this book just do not have it.

Code Samples

I got very frustrated reading chapters with code snippets from applications the various authors had written. If a working application had been available to provide context to the snippets, then I would have been less frustrated. For example, in Chapter 5, the first 12 pages of the chapter provide code snippets with very brief explanations of what the code is supposed to do. No working example is provided for context. I couldn't even play with the code to see what was going on. It was almost like I was expected just to know the context because I was on the team that wrote the application. The last 10 pages actually create a working sample. I would have rather spent the entire chapter creating the application with better explanations of each step and theory behind the code.

Proofreading

I wish I had a dollar for all the typos I've seen in this book. Again, in chapter 5, page 118 there is a screen shot of the application the author wrote. The caption says it's a screen shot of the application that you will be writing at the end of the chapter. Sloppy.

Conclusion

I feel like I did get some useful information from this book. Was it worth the frustration of reading poorly written text, no context for code snippets, and numerous errors? Not in my opinion.

2stars - "Poorly Written" (Christopher Morris)

I bought this after seeing the high reviews from others on this site. Unfortunately, the content doesn't quite live up to the hype for me. I got this in particular wanting more details about threading having come from the Windows world where I have implemented very robust networking applications that require UI responsiveness while results are cached in the background. I was hoping this book would shed some light on how to go about doing this in the iPhone paradigm, but the example is so rudimentary that it almost isn't even worth putting into the book. Plus, the instructions for building the app are incorrect and contain glaring omissions as well as references to code objects that don't even exist. What's worse is the code itself as listed in the book doesn't even run when built! It causes an unhandled exception due to objects created in the header file not being instantiated or initialized in the implementation file. And no where in the chapter does it say you must download the source code for the example. It walks you through it as if it has been checked and is guaranteed to work as printed. Once you download the source code, it becomes apparent how rushed or poorly thought through this portion of the book was. Whole sections of the header and implementation files are glaringly omitted from the book. Did Bennett even bother proofreading this part of the book, and if so, where were the editors in this process? It's shameful for a book that is marketed as a technical tome to increase a developer's proficiency on the platform.

I'll admit that I haven't delved into other parts of the book in great detail, but the game portion did look pretty interesting at first glance. However, the hands on experience I had with the threading chapter left a very bad first impression and does not leave me all too optimistic on either the usefulness or accuracy of the additional content in the book.

I have enjoyed this series of books from Apress, this one in particular was good for the depth it provided and the views from developers of actual products. Often when trying to solve problems it is nice to see examples from code that has been successfully used. It was a quick read and I certainly would have enjoyed having a book twice as large so that I had more examples and ideas to look through.

If you've read the other books in this series (in particular the Beginning iPhone 3 SDK book) and enjoyed it, you will probably find some value here.

Overall, a very interesting read. Each of the chapters contains very useful information that I found to be quite valuable to as up and coming iPhone developer.

When reading introductory books in any language, it is easy to learn the language elements and concepts, but it is hard to see how everything fits together. What is great about the cool projects series from Apress is being able to see the elements and concepts in practice with projects from professionals who are active in the field.

Each chapter is written by a different author, so every project covers a different experience and topic. These range from touch interfaces to streaming audio over the network. Some of the projects presented are based on the author's live applications that are currently available through the App Store. A wide range of the topics are covered in the book with practical examples of the concepts.

This book is definitely not an introduction to Cocoa or iPhone programming. It is more geared toward the intermediate reader who has learned the basics and needs practical, real-life examples. It can also be of use to a more experienced iPhone programmer who wants to explore some of the topics in the book without having to dig through the documentation.

I would highly recommend this book because it is easy to read and does not get bogged down with basic concepts. Code is provided on the book's site and is easy to follow the code with the explanations in the book. As a beginning iPhone programmer, I found this book to be a lot of help to work out some of the concepts I was having trouble with.

Eric Jackson has put together the most concise and well thought-out book in modern kayak technique to have come out in years. An experienced class V+ kayaker myself, I found improvements I could apply to my every paddlestroke from this book. Even expert boaters will benefit on key points regarding modern school techniques from catching eddies and snapping sprayskirts to finding the optimal pressurization for floatbags. A must read for all serious paddlers.

5stars - "If whitewater kayaking is your interest, this is the book"

If you can't take an EJ clinic, this is the next best thing. This book discards much of the "old school" of kayaking which was appropriate for older, longer boats, and replaces it with newer, smarter techniques appropriate for today's fast-turning playboats. Eric clearly understands the physics of kayaking, and communicates this to his readers in a concise, easily understandable style. This book is a wealth of information in a small package.

The Higher Power of Lucky is a charming small-town story about a girl named Lucky looking for a "higher power" as her guidance in life. It is a book that emphasizes the love of a caregiver and the doubt that comes with it. The narration is flowery, filled with insightful thoughts that can only come from a snarky ten-year-old girl. While often unrealistically written, there are moments where you just shake your head, knowing that that one particular thought could only come from a child. There are many non-essential elements written into the story, such as the whole reason this book has been banned in many places. Many of the situations and subject matters feel horribly overdone, as if hundreds of authors have already written about them. Fans of Beverly Cleary's Ramona series will love this down-to-earth book, and will probably want to check out its sequel, Lucky Breaks. There are small sketch-like illustrations throughout the book. They don't really add much to the text, and the book could have done without them.

Lucky is the main character and storyteller. She lives in the poor sticks of the California desert. Her mother has died and her father doesn't want to care for a youngster, so Lucky is tended to by her father's second wife, a woman from France. Lucky is engaging, and a very pleasant blend of age-appropriate realism and fantasy life. Her friends are limited by the very small, rather isolated place where she lives, but they're well made. Lucky eavesdrops on various local recovery meetings, where she works to do basic maintenance, and overhears enough to want to find and incorporate the Higher Power that so many of the recovering adults attribute their healing to. Her pursuit is idealistic but pretty persistent. She applies the somewhat shaky logic of an adolescent and becomes a well-rounded, likable young lady. I think any intermediate grades student would enjoy it. I did and will heartily recommend it to those young readers I know.

ln 1937, the eye wear company Ray-Ban developed a style of sunglasses identified as aviator glasses, or "aviators" for short. Aviator glasses are characterized by their thin wire frames, typically black or gold in color, and huge dark lenses which might be just about 3 times greater than the typical human eye socket. Fedora hats, manufactured by Private Island and sold by Amazon.com, were advertised as 100 % cotton. when these arrived they were 65 % cotton and 35 % other. a classic case of false adverysiement and misrepresentation. now i am engaged in a dispute. Amazon and Private Island [i am not sure who is incharge here]have changed stories two times. one official blamed his secretary for the "confusion" in communication. and i am the victim. they want the hats back in new condition. hats were repackaged and reshipped via DHL to an international destination at a cost of $170 plus. merchandisers refuses to make good on the deal.

The first Munchkin product I bought was Munchkin Quest, rather than the card game. After finally getting the card game version, I've decided that both versions are completely AWESOME but each have their pro's and cons.

Time - The card game definitely takes alot less time (at least in my experience so far) and is alot easier to set up and play. While Munchkin Quest takes some time to organize and set up (as well as continously expanding the dungeon as you play), the card game you just shuffle and go.

Learning curve - The card game is also alot simplier to learn. My group still refers to the rule books while playing Munchkin Quest, trying to stay on track with monster movement and all that sort of thing. The card game is alot more straight forward.

Epic characters - Going along with the time it takes to play each game, it DOES seem that Munchkin Quest allows players to form a more epic and well equiped character. Also, the board game seems to allow for a bit more strategy.

While Quest was awesome, I love the fact that you can expand this game soo much. I've already ordered a few of the expansions. I would definitely recommend this game, although a warning, a few of the cards are a bit edgy for kids (only a few though). Hope this review helps somebody.

I initially played this game at a friend's party. I absolutely loved it! It's a little confusing to get a handle on when you're learning, but they had printed out a flow-chart from the Munchkin website that made it extremely easy to pick up on after playing a few rounds. (Having now taught this game to quite a few people, I HIGHLY recommend finding said flow-chart to make it easier on the newbies.) The game gets pretty random and crazy, but it's extremely fun and sure to get everyone laughing. Haven't bought any of the expansions, but I sure plan to!

This is a card game that resembles, while making fun of, the role playing game dungeons and dragons. The cards and artwork are hilarious. Make sure you buy Munchkin 1 before getting this expansion set. It's one of the best/only comedy games I've ever played. The game is quite challenging as there are not only a good amount of rules to learn, but each card can manipulate those rules as well. The game's strategy ranking is about 50% skill and 50% luck. This game is a good introduction to more strategy intensive games and at the same time is funny and light for people who don't want to put as much mental energy into the playing the game. I really like strategy games such as star wars cards and I like this game a lot. My wife hates complicated strategy games like star wars cards and also loves this game. One thing you should be aware of is that with 4 or more people the game has the potential to last for 2+ hrs, unlike the box listing of about an 1 hr (or 1.5 hrs depending on which edition you get). You also need something to keep track of players lives, which aren't included in the game. Small scraps of paper or pennies work or you can get more creative, you just need 10 per player.

This is an expansion pack for Munchkin. It includes a new race (orc) wich is really fun to play and adds lots of new spell and gimmicks to have even more fun with your friends. Trust me you'll love it. Why bother with pencil and paper rpgs when oyu can play it with cards. What I love about Munchkin is that my girlfriend hates Dungeons and Dragons but loves Munchkin so we can both play it. You should buy the original and this one as well. That way you can play with many more friends and have more curses to throw at them.

Munchkin, like all good comedy, makes it look easy. The game seems to be a haphazard collection of puns and silly in-jokes for gamers. But there's something else there. It plays well, has fairly balanced rules and manages to keep the competitiveness in the game even through all the laughter, right up to the last card.

This expansion walks the same tightrope, but it does work. The humor is as good as the cover implies, and if you have a group of gamers that enjoy a good laugh, you NEED to grab Munchkin and the first two expansions at least.

I know there's no replication of MJ's glove that can match or does justice. But this product was good enough. The only thing I can complain about it is the size. I have small hands. Afro is on the loose once again trying his best to not be the same killer that got him back his father's number 1 headband, but this doesn't last long. He lives in a temple in quite seclusion spending his time carving wooden figures from his past. Crashing in the temple are Jinno from the first movie Afro's ex-best friend, and a newcommer his sister Sio played by Lucy Liu. Sio's past life was also destroyed by Afro. They beat him harshly and steal his number 1 headband. They also take his father's skull and tell Afro they will ressurect his father to fight against him. 4 cyborgs that were part of Sio's childhood life help her to exact revenge on Afro. This starts Afro back on his violent path once again.

Accompanying Afro is his imaginary friend Ninja Ninja which Samuel Jackson plays both of these characters well. He annoys and yet keeps Afro sane. I've heard some people don't like him in this version, but I really didn't see any major changes to that character. This one part Afro is at a festival searching seriously for the headband and all Ninja cares about is the music and drink. Afro in this sequel has to get the number 2 headband first before getting back the number 1 just like he did before.

Afro doesn't know who has the headband yet so he questions different people to find out who has it. Sio tracks his progress with a few minions and cameras. When he finds out who has the number 2 headband it really ends up being the best battle in the movie. Reseurrection has good action sequences but they are fewer than the first movie. Which is unfortunate that they don't have more. The 4 cyborg battle was very fast, and intense; giving Afro lot's of trouble fighting them teaming up on him.

Counting down the clock is Afro's father being remade and programmed to go against Afro unless Afro can get there in time to stop it. Professor Dharman is back and is the one working on Afro's father as well as being in love with Sio. It's not a pretty thought with Sio being very sexy looking and the doc being a sphere. He's also behind making her 4 friends being made into cyborgs. When Afro gets there your expecting a fantastic last battle. It really is disappointing that it is not. It's very brief and unsatisfying. Jinno who was popular in the first movie remains a puppet throughout almost all the movie, and they didnt' do him justice at the end either.

Resurrection is not a bad sequel to the first. The sequel doesn't do well with a few of the characters. With the few battle sequences, they do good on 2 of them that last long. There are some other brief action sequences that don't have to do much with Afro's main story. The story ends very strangely without Afro being shown right at the end. I only have guesses as do alot of people on this. There might even be a possible sequel by the ending I'm not sure.

3stars - "The Samurai's Way" (Magus)

This is a great movie that takes place after Afro Samurai (Director's Cut). The story is almost as good as the 5 episode Afro Samurai series. With a lot of action, blood and violence as the first. I like the art style of Takashi Okazaki. His style and his way of getting into animation makes me think of a more serious and japanese version of Jhonen Vasques, the creater of johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Invader Zim.

Afro Samurai was a worthy follow up, delving more into the internal struggles of Afro, and the reprucisions of his actions as outlined in the first season are dealt with as well. Afro's quest, almost his obsession, to obtain the No. 1 headband resulted in his loss of everyone he cared about, and in some cases his humanity. But this season shows us that his revenge will not be the only one sought, bringing some very dire consequences. I will not spoil the story, or any of the twists as they flow, but I note Afro's need to obtain the No. 1 headband this time goes beyond the mere need to avenge his father, but moves into a need to find a purpose for himself. All Afro has known is death and need to obtain the cloth with a number attached, and when the revenge has been obtained, but the headband no longer in his possession, he is unable to do anything but do what he knows.

Though the Second season may not be as well rounded as the first, its choice of delving into the deeper issues of the protaginist, and the harder morally ambigous decisions he must make make this season a definite watch. If you liked the first season, then you will find much to like in the second. Recomended.

4stars - "A worthy follow up" (M. Herzog)

You can always tell when I like a movie cause I actually shell out the cash to buy it. Definitely bought this one after seeing it. Much better animation than the first. The fight scenes were fantastic and reminded me of another great anime movie, "Ninja Scroll", although Ninja Scroll was slightly better. The recreation of father afro was done with great results, they made him look especially menacing. I don't know what it was, but Afro seemed a bit more sinister in this one, which is why I think a lot of reviewers here didn't give it 5 stars(though they won't admit it). This was made clearer in the scene where he killed the Samarai he had a drink with in order to get the number 2 headband. By the end however, I realized, that Afro is just a competitor by nature, a pity the sport he plays in demands that he kill in order to win.

I had bought this same game for my son for pc, but when we got this one for the xbox 360 there is no comparison...
It has all the features and effects to make it a favorite for us and my son and we would totally recommend it..
If you liked the movie then you will have to love this one as it is just like you are in the movie yourself and you are the one rescueing ann...
All the levels have new tasks to over-come that keeps you on your feet..
One thing i would recommend is that if you have problems getting through a level,,
then just go to you tube,,put in king kong and the level's name,, and watch the video on that level and learn how to get through.
For the price we got this one it is safe to say it is a knock-out......

This was the second game I bought on the 360 about four years ago now. I thought it would be cool to play as King Kong and believe me it is. What other game do you get to play as a giant monkey? The graphics are nothing to write home about, but it is a first person shooter when you play as Jack, but its third person when you play as Kong. It can be fun, but I was also disappointed to find out it was only single player. The back of my box states its a two player game...so unless I haven't unlocked something, the case lists the wrong information...

Play as Kong...its worth it for a discounted price now.

This game is awesome the graphics suck though but there are realistic effects to like when you approach a dinosaur your character shivers. WHen you tap the "B" button your character tells you how much ammo you have but if you run out of breath he wont. There is also a system called "The food chain" you take a stick or a bone catch a fish or a bug or a fly on it toss it and the other creatures of the island will run towards it to eat it this is a fantastic time to have spears ready as to ambush them. Over all I bought this game for ten bucks and it is well worth thirty bucks and is allot of fun I recommend a purchase

for some reason the creators of the game decided to follow a completely differant storyline than the movie, so i dont know why its called the official game.
this game is highly addictive but one downside is, kong suck. i know, i know how could i say kong sucks, its not him its the way the gamemakers made his controls and graphics, thats why he sucks.
all in all, great game, but dread becoming kong.

I found a copy of this game at a brick & mortal store going for $10 and since I have a spare computer system which I could install and play it on without having to worry about the "StarForce" malware, I gave this game a try. Given all the negative feedback of the past year, and UBISOFT's agreeing not to use the 'StarForce' malware copy protection sceme going forward, I was surprised that they still haven't released a patch to resolve the problem for this game. In fact it looks like UBISOFT has abandonned any ongoing support of this game.

As for game play? It sucks. Not only are the graphics cutting edge for the end of the 20th century, the game play is very linear and if that weren't bad enough other characters in the game are constantly telling you what to do anyhow. Further, appearing as a 1st person shooter, the game has some sections that can only be completed as 3rd person and parts of the game have continuous strobing type flashes which aren't safe for some people with seizure disorders.

I was originally interested in this game because of UBISOFT's FarCry release. But after dealing with this game, it's clear that CryTek is soley responcible for FarCry's excellence. Hopefully, CryTek will find a new distributor for their 'Crysis' upcoming release...

There's actually not much of a game in this one. It's basically a play-through-story in a lot of cases, and the entire game feels like it's on a rail. This is especially true of the kong levels..which are pretty much just narrow lanes to jump through with a small boss arena at the end.

This almost gives the game an arcade feeling--with the camera scripted to react differently almost every single second of a kong level.

The Jack levels are a lot better, and in most cases are actually fun. The game is still linear, but the game does fall back on open-spaces-then-chokepoint-then-another-openspace design principles, which can get old.

Still, there's a real nice beauty about kong. If you've seen the movie, you know how 'moody' Jackson strove to make Skull island--the gray wall, the dense jungle, the thick swarms of insects--it all translates VERY well. Constant rainstorms, the roll of thunder, the maze of corridors atop the wall, the alley of dinosaurs to dodge and run through, the bleak, dense, and dangerous swamps...though it's a linear ride, it's a very very pretty one--worth the budget price even in my opinion.

I am a huge fan of the New York Yankees. I remember watching every single inning of the World Series in 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000 but wasn't born for any of the prior ones. That's what makes this collection so great, I can relive the favorite moments I was around for and see for the first time the highlights that I wasn't around for. The four most recent championships are absolutely fantastic and I could watch them over and over. The earlier ones are great because you get to watch the Yankees win the world series but the presentation isn't as good. The narration is a little boring and the footage is a little grainy so it makes the older World Series a little less cinematic. Diehard Yankee fans like myself don't need that sort of thing because the footage and the games speak for themselves but a casual fan might find them boring. This is definitely a great gift idea, I probably would have asked for it had I not already purchased it for myself!

This series was amazing. It's a fast and quick read (mainly because it is for little kids) but it's filled with action, humor and it throws in some romance. The end of the series starts off faced pace, which I think a lot of other series ending books don't do, so that was great! And it maintains a good balance of action and that humor and just "Percy Jacksoness" that made the series great.

This book series has definitely been a great ride. For some reason (not sure If I'm the only one), but I think the message in the book and at the end is great. It deals with kids who have "broken" (not sure if that's the right word to describe it) homes and it sends a strong message that you still have to keep fighting through the pain you might feel.

Anyways, this was a great series. Made me laugh a lot, made me tear up a bit, and made me re-explore my old fascination with Greek mythology. When I was in 6th grade I was a big Hermes fan, and Greek myth fan in general.. I even pulled out my old huge Encyclopedia of Roman/Greek Myths book a lot.

Definitely a must read for kids if adventure novels are their sort of thing. It's too bad Harry Potter was almost too popular because it sort of makes ever adventure book seem like it must be compared to it.. Which isn't fair.

Anyways, I loved this series. I'm definitely keeping it around if I ever have kids someday to let them read it.

On the recommendation of my 12 year old god-daughter, I bought the whole series of 5 books. My 11 year old son loved them so much that I had to beg him to go to sleep instead of staying up reading. These were the longest books he has voluntarily read so far. Great choice for preteens.

If I thought the last book was packed with action, then this one has double that! It's non-stop wham wham wham one after another and I just ripped through this book in almost one sitting.

Ah, I loved this book. There were twists and turns I didn't expect, although I suppose they were very easy to spot early on but I suck at that sort of thing. The old Greek tales surrounding Daedalus were artfully crafted in the plot and were given a fresh perspective by the man in question himself. The tale of the labyrinth was also worked in as well.

In this book we get to see the conflict between Percy and Nico as he tries to get him to stand on their side, and his growing feelings for Annabeth. Don't get me wrong, it's very subtle, so you can rest assured that it won't overshadow the main plot. We also get to see him deal with jealousy, doubt, and of course, his own self-sacrificing flaw for others.

The book gets a tad darker as it deals with death, but if there was one neat quirk, it has very faint, faint trace of steampunk in it. Although I'm not sure if you'd even consider it steampunk.

Great story!

I had already loved the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, and this forth installment just makes make love it even more!

It is once again filled with Riordan's fabulous writing. It amazes me in every book in this series how well he captures the voice of a young teen boy. Percy is such a lovable character. His sense of humor always gets me on his side everytime. In this installment we see our favorite heroes going on a quest inside the labyrinth, an underground maze that is never as it seems. The quest is lead by Annabeth this time. Annabeth had some hard decisions to make. She really had to grow up alot in this book, all the characters did really. Grover continues on his quest for the lost god Pan. I really enjoyed having Tyson back. Him and Percy are great together. I was pleasantly surprised to see Rachel back. I love how Riordan ties each story together and how each character he adds has a purpose. I have to say my favorite part of this one was watching Nico's character development. I am such a sucker for the angsty characters.

I thought the Titan's Curse was action packed, but this one far out did it. Every chapter held an exciting scene that made it impossible to not jump into the next one. We meet some new gods and some new seriously freaky monsters on this journey. I have to admit that I teared up at a few parts, especially in the ending. Alot of the suspense is over at the end, but you are still left with some cliffhangers. Some of the outcomes were easy for me to decipher, but some of them seriously shocked me. I almost don't want to read the next book in the series because it is the last. I just don't want to let these characters go yet! I want to say so much more, but I would just be giving away spoilers if I did. Percy Jackson and the Olympians continues to be one of my favorite series. If you haven't started this series yet, do so ASAP!

At Camp Half-Blood, Quintus has substituted for Mr. D. Percy and Annabeth team up in a new game. They find an entrance to the Labyrinth, and they start a quest along with Grover and Tyson. They make it to Triple G ranch and see Nico. Percy defeats Geryon and continues the quest, but Nico wants his sister back to life. Soon, they split up, but Percy almost gets himself killed. He meets Calypso, but can't stay with her. Percy gets Rachel to lead them since she can see through the mist. They meet up with Nico again, and find Luke's body for Kronos to reform. They return to camp for battle with Grover and Tyson after they find Pan. Grover causes a Panic to stop the whole thing and continues the quest in the next book.

I liked this book because it had some funny parts. Percy's adventures continue in The Last Olympian.

Though I am not in the targeted age group for this series I have read all five books. I really enjoyed these books; they were light entertainment and a fairly original story line with no vampires. It gets hard to find a story that has not already been done and though this is not as good as Harry Potter it was still fun to read and I got to care about the characters and am looking forward to the next series from Camp Halfblood. I haven't seen the movie verison but from the trailer I can already tell they added things from the second book into the first so I don't know how much more the movie verison is going to change aside from making the characters look completely different from what I expected them to look like. (Annabeth had golden hair whereas the actress playing her has brown hair.) It only took two weeks to read all five books but I still enjoyed them all the same.

This was an exciting read, the characters were great (I ADORED Grover, the klutzy but earnest satyr) and my seven-year-old loved it to pieces. BUT I found myself rolling my eyes a lot as I was caught up short by the holes in the fabric of the story and Riordan's manipulation of his characters.

Specifically, Mr. Riordan makes it clear that these kids are smart. They're smart enough to figure out that there's a spy in the demigod summer camp, for example, and Our Hero, Percy Jackson, spends the length of the book wondering who that spy is. But though he's fed increasingly clear clues as to the identity of that spy, he never stops to figure it out--he just continues to wonder. Moreover, when he and his companions have completed their mission and returned to camp, the question of the spy's identity and role in Grover almost meeting an untimely end are completely forgotten. Time drags by and no one so much as mentions the spy or is the least concerned that they might still be a threat--which, of course, they are. Since I'd figured it out long, long before (because of the numerous unsubtle hints), this was more than a little frustrating. Most frustrating of all was the way Riordan literarily forces the reader to look away by simply not addressing the subject.

The nature and powers of gods and other supernaturals are also vague and inconsistent. Sometimes characters knew things in detail that they had no reason to know and other times things took place right out in front of mortals and gods alike that the gods seemed to take no notice of despite the fact that Percy's movements were supposedly of dire import. I was continually wondering, "Well, if they know THIS how can they possibly NOT know THAT?" The characters seemed to know what the writer needed them to know, and not know what he needed them NOT to know regardless of the situation. It made me doubt that Riordan had a clear picture of the powers and nature of his supernatural characters.

I also found the end of the book disappointing emotionally. Percy's mom, who is married to this nasty piece of work for reasons that become clear, finally has every reason to leave the buffoon. Riordan makes a big point of the idea that though Percy could take care of this for his mom through supernatural means, she shows courage by electing to do it herself. But in the end, she offs the guy (off-stage at that), employing the same supernatural device that Percy was going to use, thus sidestepping the issue of personal courage entirely. And I have to ask if the punishment fit the crime.

Without divulging too much, there's also a logistical problem in Riordan's solution with regard to Percy's step-father. The mom does him in using a device that would have had the same deadly effect on everyone in the room. We know he was playing poker when he, er, folded, and poker is not a solitary pursuit. But there's no mention of the other guys at the poker table.

I will buy the rest of the books for my daughter, 'cause like I said, they're fun to read with lots of cliff-hangers, and I love the kid characters. I've also heard from several readers that the series improves with regard to Puppet Master Syndrome. I hope those readers are right and Mr. Riordan has come up with plots that don't require so much manipulation of the characters AND the reader.

So after many years of asking, praying, begging, pleading, fans have FINALLY been treated to the first season of everyone's favorite spy and spy/housewife from the '80s. I watched the show in syndication years ago, and when I heard that Warner Bros. had finally agreed to produce the series for DVD, you could have knocked me over with a feather. It was released at the perfect time too, as my mother's birthday was approaching and she'd loved the series as much as I had, and she saw the original run.

So here we are, a week after the first season's arrival, and the giddiness still has yet to completely fade. Oh, many of the storylines are as cheesy as ever, and it's hilarious at how often Scarecrow or Amanda have to run to find a pay-phone to check in with Billy at the Agency (it was a dangerous time, that era before cell phones), but the chemistry between Kate Jackson and Bruce Boxleitner still speaks in a genuine tone that appeals to any generation.

Aside from a few subtitle options, there aren't any extra goodies to peruse, but in this case, they're hardly necessary. Fans of this adorable dramedy should jump at the chance to own this old classic.

Now, bring on Season Two!

I have watched nearly the entire season in the last few days and have been loving it! I had nearly forgotten how much I used to love this show as a teenager, but then I saw this DVD set advertised in an email from Amazon and knew I had to buy it. I wasn't sure that the show would hold up today, after all it has been so long, times are so different now and I am all grown up. But it does hold up pretty well, even given the huge political shift since then. The show might seem like sort of a white-bread presentation of the world of counter-intelligence, and that may be true in some ways, but the writing and performances are surprisingly good. I thought it might seem sort of "Leave It to Beaver" to me now, but it doesn't really--although not overly violent, people do actually die; there is some fairly spicy dialogue, and the development of the characters is good. Of course, the chemistry between the lead actors Bruce Boxleitner and Kate Jackson, and hence their characters Lee and Amanda, makes the entire show.

It would have been great to have some special features on the DVDs too, but I was so happy just to see the show again, and in rather good quality video and sound, after all these years that I went ahead and gave it five stars. I can't wait for seasons 2, 3 & 4 now! And I would love to see a reunion movie too, to get a glimpse of what would have happened to Lee & Amanda over the years.

Anyhoo--I was ten years old when this show first came on and I kid (no pun intended) you not, I remember each and every episode like it was yesterday. For two days my couch was my best friend. I made a marathon weekend of it. Every episode made me feel like it was 1983 again. From the opening theme song (I can hear it playing now) to the closing credits, each disc brought back fond memories. So here's another five words--When's season two coming out?

The COMPLETE episodes - without cutting for length (as syndicating does); or censoring Scarecrow's occasional d___mn (he was kind of a cowboy after all); or editing a modern day perceived political correctness issue (like they did in the Commish release)! This show was great and even today, I still am amused by some of the schticks. PLEASE release the next episodes as soon as possible as I've already finished this set in less than a week and I need some more Scarecrow fixes! Again - thank you - thank you - thank you!!!!
