This is a 90's film adaptation of Harriet Beecher Stowe's important novel by the same title. This story, and the message of the story, is of utmost significance. It is a tale in 1850's America of slave trading -- buying and selling people like they were property, and of cruel treatment that would be unacceptable for even zoo animals. Obviously, plantation life for the slaves could vary from reasonably comfortable to incredbly inhumane, depending mainly on the owner. The film story demonstrates this well.

There are glimpses of light: the strong Christian belief system and ethics among the slave population, and the good Samaritan acts and sacrifices of those who would aid them. But the general environment and theme is dark and the horror of the situation is self-evident.

I could only give this film 3 stars due the production values. Kudos to Avery Brooks (Tom), Edward Woodward (Simon Legree), and Bruce Dern (Augustine). The rest of the acting is mediocre or downright bad. The child actors are horrible. Editing is noticably choppy. Musical score is TV-like. Sound is poor. Props and costumes are pretty good (except for the steel decking and fiberglass benches on the Delta Queen). Camera work, fair to poor. In spite of "locations" ranging from Kentucky to the Canadian border, this film looks strongly as if it were almost completely shot in a single small back lot location.

Entertaining and a couple of tear-jerker moments. Historically and sociologically there is no information here that an adult American would not already be aware of, although, like the Holocaust, there are some ugly moments in history that we would do well to not completely forget.

Epic story, but not an epic movie.

3stars - "Uncle Tom's Cabin - The Movie" (C. J. Leach)

This is a great movie. I don't know how true it is to the book, because I've never read the entire book. As an 8th grade history teacher, however, this movie is perfect when trying to show the students the reality of slavery in the antebellum South.

Tom is placed into a world of slavery. Tom is benevolent and good nature, and with slavery as the back drop to his life, the viewer is given a glimpse into the depravity of slavery. I think the movies does a great job of showing the extremes of slavery: a cruel slaver master, a angelic little girl, and humane slave owner (sounds like an oxymoron), a good slave, a bad slave...and so on.

The students really get into the movie, and they feel the saddness of slavery, which helps them understand the fight for the territorial expansion of slavery, prior to the Civil War. Great Movie!

4stars - "Samuel L. Jackson at his best" (William Pulgarin)

Although it has been many years since I read the book, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I don't know how well the movie follows the book; its been too long since I read the book, and I don't remember all the details, but the story makes a strong statement about slavery. How moving is the tremendous suffering of black families as they are ripped apart by masters and owners who refused to see them as human beings with souls; as people whom God loves; and whose misery did not go unseen by the all-seeing eye of God. No nation which professes any kind of religious belief could possibly turn a blind eye to any segment of the population which is enslaved. This movie tugs at your heartstrings as you watch men and women and children separated without regard to their family connections. Great movie!

The book by H.B.S. was not intended to be about heroism or love but about the inhumanity of slavery. The author breathed life into the characters primarily to evoke sympathy for them from the reader or hatred for them in the case of Simon Legree. I saw this black and white silent movie for the first time at the age of 13. Up until that time I had only occasional contact with black people and did not understand why they were so radical about the topic of slavery. My only understanding of slavery was the Shirley Temple version and I thought black people were being overly sensitive about it. Seeing Uncle Tom's Cabin was like an awakening that changed my understand of the whole relationship between black people and slavery. The silent movie was much better at bringing across the true purpose of the novel without the hollywood slant of modern versions.

The movie entitled Uncle Tom's Cabin was an excellent film. I am really glad that I got a chance to view it. I could watch this over and over again. I praise Tom for his courage and for him standing up for what was right although he was beaten for it plenty of times. From this particular movie I saw that not all white people were bad, and I also saw how slaves were treated back in the times of slavery. They were just sold like they were a piece of dirt and just like they weren't even human beings. I think that this is a good film to watch for anyone is learning about slavery to see what it was all about.The movie ,Uncle Tom's Cabin, was about a man named Tom who was a devote Christian. He was free but he wasn't free. I say this because although he wasn't free physically he was free mentally. He knew he that nobody could buy his soul. Through the whole movie he stood up for what was right and spoke his mind. Although aware of the consequences he still pressed on. People like him is what makes our history. People who stood up, and didn't accept less. People who knew that nobody was better then them and that they deserved to be treated equally. He helped those who were in the time of need. The great thing about everything that happened in the movie and everything that Tom accomplished is that it wasn't fiction it was fact. It really happened. This movie was good! I liked how Tom stood up for himself and everyone else although he got beat for it. He always did the right thing no matter what. In conclusion I would like to say that Uncle Tom's Cabin was a great film to watch. I would rate this a 10 on a scale from 1 to 10. I would definitely love to see this movie again.

5stars - "classic blue ray movie" (Charles Salvemini)

Old ways die hard... and even now in the fast-changing American South, some old ways die harder than others. It's the lesson learned by Carl Lee Hailey, a Mississippi factory worker, when his ten-year-old daughter is brutally assaulted by two racist thugs on a drunken spree. A Time to Kill is an incredible movie and probably in my opinion is Schumacher's best. McConaughey and Jackson deliver some of their best performances in this movie. A great movie to watch and enjoy.

"The Gorgeous Hussy" starts out with detailed opening credits with pictures of the stars as well as their characters' names displayed. This was common for big-budget MGM pictures such as this one. So it's no coincidence that "The Gorgeous Hussy" was one of Joan's biggest MGM productions of her entire 18 year career with the studio. It's an epic history-driven picture, that although is not factually accurate, does borrow heavily on the past.

First of all I have to say that Joan looks amazing in this picture. We finally get to see her with long hair. And I love those petticoats and long dresses that she wore because Joan wore them very well. Her classical and timeless beauty was a perfect compliment to these period ensembles.

Besides Joan's performance as Peggy, I especially enjoyed the performance of Robert Taylor (as Bow.) He was one good-looking man and so charming and gallant. The movie also includes a large supporting cast with some of the biggest stars of their time, including: Mr. Lionel Barrymore, Melvyn Douglas and the one and only Jimmy Stewart.

There are also some funny and comical scenes throughout the picture that I enjoyed as well. I strongly suspect that Joan was able to borrow heavily on her talents as a silent actress in this film by using her body language to convey a million different emotions.

"The Gorgeous Hussy" is somewhat flat and dry in some scenes. The political dialog and the scenes in the senate come to mind. The movie is over 100 minutes long which for its time was considred very long, so that may have something to do with the fact that it did drag on slightly.

Nevertheless, this is an interesting movie that any film fan of the Golden Era should watch.

3stars - "when it comes to love you want a man with a slow hand" (J. G. Crawford)

Joan Crawford is the title character. She is Peggy Timberlake, a lively, sexy innkeeper's daughter. She becomes a favorite of soon to be President, Andrew Jackson & his wife Rachel. She is pursued by more than a few men & is quickly married & widowed. She is a partisan, politically savvy woman aleinating some of her suitors. She finally falls in love with a prominent member of Jackson's cabinent with plans to marry. "Uncle" Andrew dotes on her for the kindness she had shown his wife Rachel who died shortly after he became president. Because of her popularity, she is shunned by the president's cabinent, or more to the point, their wives. Enraged, Jackson fires most of his cabinet thus creating a major crisis. Lionel Barrymore plays Jackson & Jimmy Stewart has a small part as one of Peggy's boyfriends. Entertaining little costume drama.

3stars - "A major historical scandal, a minor historical drama." (JOHN GODFREY)

Americans don't know much about their early Presidents, but what they do know about the seventh President Andrew Jackson is mostly limited to an awareness of his nickname, Old Hickory. In GORGEOUS HUSSY, we can see early on that Andrew Jackson (Lionel Barrymore) is a crusty curmudgeon who thinks nothing of swapping punches with a heckler. Barrymore shakes his leonine head at least twice in each scene while thundering such witticisms as "By the eternal" or "I expect to receive all your resignations (while confronting a hostile cabinet)." Director Clarence Brown, however, clearly means for the dramatic focus to be on Joan Crawford, who as Peg Eaton, becomes the unofficial First Lady when Mrs. Jackson (Beulah Bondi) dies. Crawford as Peg Eaton had a difficult role in that Director Brown does not permit her to be the same scratchy clawing shop girl whom a Depression ridden America had been accustomed to see. Here she is reduced to a cliche-ridden stereotype as a woman who is shunned and scorned by a "respectable" Washington elite. She marries Robert Taylor, who dies early on, plans a marriage to Melvyn Douglas which goes predictably astray, then settles for real-life husband Franchot Tone. And while all these marriage issues ascend and descend, there is Crawford vainly trying to inject some much needed audience interest which begins to flag despite the combined histrionics of Barrymore and Crawford.
The action of GORGEOUS HUSSY takes place during a particularly tumultuous era of American history, when a fever of secession based on states' rights was just then beginning to foment to erupt in a few decades as a civil war. But here, except for a few scenes of politicians blathering about the heavy hand of Washington suffocating the right of southern states to call their own shots, one might never know that anything material was happening outside of the fancy balls and dining halls of Old Hickory's cabinet. GORGEOUS HUSSY has nowhere very interesting to go. Joan Crawford is gorgeous and is called a hussy on more than one occasion, but the result is a film in which we see and hear her act but in a dramatic vacuum that trivializes the stasis of an era that was anything but.

Here is a cast to die for in an old fashioned story about the struggles of the nation when states rights struggled against a powerful union. The movie revolves around Margaret O'Neal (Joan Crawford), a beautiful and headstrong girl with a group of suitors following behind her. From a very young age, she knew that she wanted to marry John Randolph (Melvyn Douglas), but he feels that her extreme youth is to blame. Feeling jilted, she falls into the arms of the dashing Lt. Timberlake (Robert Taylor), much to the chagrin of John Eaton (Franchot Tone) and Rowdy Dow (Jimmy Stewart), but not for long. There are further problems when Margeret's beloved Andrew Jackson (Lionel Barrymore) struggles for office amid nasty gossip about his simple wife (Beulah Bondi). Her association with him makes Margaret the subject of similar rumors.

The story sounds somewhat dull on paper, but the efforts of the talented cast make for a very exciting and enjoyable film. In fact, one wishes that each one could be showcased better; the use of so many great faces in just one film seems to waste thier abilities. Crawford and Barrymore benefit the most. Crawford is beautiful as always and Barrymore could act his way through any part while still retaining his unique qualities. It is interesting to see the two together again after their very different pairing in the successful Grand Hotel only a few years earlier. Taylor, Tone, and especially Stewart leave the viewer wanting more, which can make their scenes somewhat disappointing.

The names of the characters might sound familiar, and many of them should, but as the disclaimer in the beginning of the film says, the story is only loosely based on people that really existed. One should take none of the story as fact.

This Blu-Ray is a Chinese import from Hong Kong. There may be nothing wrong with it, but Amazon really should make that clear in their listing. There is no USA Blu-Ray release of this film. Nor will there be any time soon, as Miramax has gone under. If you want to be guaranteed the best import version currently available, track down the Danish import. It's Region Free, and the audio/video are outstanding.

What can I say my stoner ex-girlfriend made me watch this movie. It nearly had me in tears when I was an hour in and realized that there was still 2 more to go. I'm lucky I keep my hair short because by time I got down to the last 30 minutes I wanted to rip my hair out. It was the most boring piece of crap I have ever watched. With one exception if you are a stoner you'll love this movie blazed because I assume that when you are flying high you just don't care how truly terrible this movie really is.

I have this VHS edition and when I had purchased the DVD special edition, thought I was getting the same thing. But, not so...contrary to the specs. listed by Amazon for this VHS, the running time is actually 164 minutes (not 154). It evidently is the ONLY edition which is that long as it includes the 10 minutes of extended scenes. None of the DVD versions available include those extended (deleted) scenes. They all run only 154 minutes.

Update: Amazon has corrected the runtime on this item page as I had recommended. This VHS special collector's edition is the only version that includes the added 10 minutes of extended scenes in the movie.

5stars - "Clarification - Running Time Error" (CatMeister)

Pulp Fiction is inspired by the old novels of the same name. The characters in the movie remind you of the 1930's -40's cheap crime novels full of familiar characters like boxers willing to throw a fight, mob bosses, calculating wives and bank robbers like Bonnie and Clyde. Tarantino is the director and must have tongue in cheek throughout!

Pulp Fiction is set in Hollywood in the 1990's and combines three stories that focus on two characters. The first story is about Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson). Jules quotes Ezekiel 25:17 to his victims before blasting them. Jules and Vincent are two hit men that work for Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames). Marsellus has a beautiful wife, Mia (Uma Thurman). Marsellus wants Vincent to entertain his wife and takes her out to a 1950's themed restaurant. She takes a liking to Vincent, and is also a drug addict. She overdoses and the scrambling and the scenes scrambling saving her from death are hilarious. The second story is about a boxer who is asked to throw a fight (Bruce Willis) by the big boss Marsellus. He decides to make money himself by doing the opposite and wins the fight, killing his opponent in an early round. The third story is about a pair of lovers (Amanda Plummer and Tim Roth) who discuss a career change from robbing banks to holding up a diner. They decide a diner is easier and more money.

There is also an interesting character named Wolf (Keitel). He is a mobster cleanup man who instructs on how to do the job.

The film's stories weave in and out, there is a lot of dialogue that is mesmerizing. Talk about Big Mac's in Paris and why someone was killed because he massaged the feet of big boss's wife, Mia. Sometimes the dialogue goes so long you know it is on purpose - like a rhythmic "riff" to the ears - The movie is original and bright though the theme is dark in the noir way.

There are lengthy scenes presented out of sequence. I don't know how the movie is held together unless the a feeling of the playfulness of the actors as they enjoy their characters.

The final scene brings the movie together - ties it in a neat little package.

I think that the title says it all, except that I think that as with all Pixars, the age of the creator's is showing. This was obviously made by an older "boomer" who actually lived through the 50's.

Jackson, Chris Pennsylvania, Tom Sizemore and James Gandolfini are all in this film! I almost missed Val Kilmer's Mentor (aka Elvis), just like I missed a lot about this movie.

Get married to a call girl who was on the job 4 days after one night with her? Then, not be able to breathe the same air as her pimp and kill him? Get a suitcase of the pimp's cocaine and run with it? What was Christian Slater's Clarence thinking? He should have just kept working at the comic store and lived happily ever after with Patricia Arquette's Alabama (interesting name for someone who "is not Florida white trash"). But, then we would not get to see all these fine actors breeze in and out of scenes directed by Tony Scott and written by Quentin Tarantino.

This film feels like Beverly Hills Cop meets Pulp Fiction - sorry that I cannot recommend it as I expected more from all this talent.

The shoes are very nice, good quality. The only problem I would foresee is if you are a woman buying these shoes and converting to men sizes. They tend to run smaller than you would think. For the price, I was not expecting a whole lot. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I've only worn the shoes to two all-day events and I had no complaints. The quality is very decent and I experienced no discomfort. The shoes did experience spillage of grog that I did not clean off till the next day and yet the leather sustained no damage. The real test will be a four-day pirate festival coming up. I highly recommend this pair of shoes at the price.

Having never seen all of these movies in their entirety, going to the theater to see the newest, 4th one was a treat. I have always liked Bruce Willis and thought it was time to finally see him in a Die Hard movie. I liked it so much my daughter bought me the DVD of it as a gift. That was when I decided to make our collection complete. When I saw this boxed set with all the "makings of" extras included with it I snapped it up. I have not been disappointed. The movies are fun and gritty and sometimes a bit hard to swallow but that is part of their charm. All the extras make it a set that any movie person will enjoy.

I'm not at all your average collector of action figures. Truth to tell, I've never seen the movie "Shaft" (heresy!). I only know Samuel Jackson from STAR WARS, as my favorite Jedi aside from Yoda and Obi-wan. (So sue me.)

That said: this is REALLY a well-made action figure, if stiff in the limbs. It's solid, durable, has a really characteristic facial expression, has good classic clothing...you don't need to take this action figure as John Shaft if you don't want to (I don't - he inspires a character of my own in my fictional writing), but if you do, you can display him on an equally solid stand complete with a little commemorative poster. I must say that the stand is rather creepy, being based on the motif of piled skulls and bones; that has to do with the company that sponsors this commemorative edition (it specializes in horror movies, seemingly).

Afro Samurai was a worthy follow up, delving more into the internal struggles of Afro, and the reprucisions of his actions as outlined in the first season are dealt with as well. Afro's quest, almost his obsession, to obtain the No. 1 headband resulted in his loss of everyone he cared about, and in some cases his humanity. But this season shows us that his revenge will not be the only one sought, bringing some very dire consequences. I will not spoil the story, or any of the twists as they flow, but I note Afro's need to obtain the No. 1 headband this time goes beyond the mere need to avenge his father, but moves into a need to find a purpose for himself. All Afro has known is death and need to obtain the cloth with a number attached, and when the revenge has been obtained, but the headband no longer in his possession, he is unable to do anything but do what he knows.

Though the Second season may not be as well rounded as the first, its choice of delving into the deeper issues of the protaginist, and the harder morally ambigous decisions he must make make this season a definite watch. If you liked the first season, then you will find much to like in the second. Recomended.

You can always tell when I like a movie cause I actually shell out the cash to buy it. Definitely bought this one after seeing it. Much better animation than the first. The fight scenes were fantastic and reminded me of another great anime movie, "Ninja Scroll", although Ninja Scroll was slightly better. The recreation of father afro was done with great results, they made him look especially menacing. I don't know what it was, but Afro seemed a bit more sinister in this one, which is why I think a lot of reviewers here didn't give it 5 stars(though they won't admit it). This was made clearer in the scene where he killed the Samarai he had a drink with in order to get the number 2 headband. By the end however, I realized, that Afro is just a competitor by nature, a pity the sport he plays in demands that he kill in order to win.

I was blown away by the sheer quality of this game! I liked how you can easily play it while doing something else, since simply mashing buttons will advance you through as well as any attempted strategy; very convenient for todays on-the-go gamer. Also, you don't need to pay attention to the story, since it basically does not exist- BRILLIANT.

The visuals are top notch- I very much enjoyed the rock walls modeled after lumps of mashed potatoes, and I found the character designs to be extremely memorable and endearing, with such favorites as 'Guy #1', and Guy #2'. Later in the game, you even encounter 'Guy #3', which was really exciting! In a final, deal-sealing stroke of design brilliance, all of the achievements are worth 50 points each, regardless of how easy or hard they are to acquire, which I feel really embodies the spirit of Gamerscore.

If you like movie tie-in games, this is one of them!

Is this a terrible video game? It depends on what your expectations are and how much you paid for it. Expecting a good, long adventure where you "jump" through time and space and paying $40 for it? Aside from not having an inkling about how these movie based games work, you'll be vastly disappointed.

But expecting a quick game you can power through for 1000 achievement points and paying $6 to do so? It delivers.

It's sad that games like these are being shoveled out the door for that very reason; to accommodate the achievement junkies, and it baffles me to no end when games like this are released with hard, time consuming achievements. Are developers really that stupid? Probably.

This fails as a worthwhile video game but succeeds as an easy 1000 achievement points. Your satisfaction depends on what you want it for.

Well, let's put it this way, it is not the worst game I ever played but then again I did finish it in under approximately two hours. The funny thing is that is more than enough time to beat the game. In fact, you could probably beat it without dying in under 30 minutes.

The major flaw in the game is that you only use the 'b' button. I think another button does a slower attack but it really does not matter. Every time you hit the button it is a random chance of successfully landing a hit. The only cool weapon is a flame thrower that you get at the end of the game. Aside from that all of the weapons sound alike and do no more damage than the original dagger you start out with. As a result the gameplay is awful. The graphics are bad but they wouldn't have been that bad if the gameplay was actually good.

I didn't really mind this game but it is too short and is just a very below average beat 'em up kind of game. I would give it a 5/10 since you do fight bosses and can teleport. However, a game such as Oblivion encompasses these two elements amongst others. It almost appears as if this game was never finished and was simply rushed out after just 5 levels were made. Each level is no more than 10 minutes long.

The coolest thing you do in the game is teleport, but since this game is so linear it is quickly forgettable. The only reason I bought this game is because ONE day it may become rare alongside Anubis II. However, if you are not a collector of any kind and simply are looking for a good game to play, steer away from this game and any cereal products that may contain this game for free ( I wouldn't be surprised).

Look for Baroque instead.

Not as labeled by the producer. I am a SUCKER because I bought this CD set as described by the producer. I paid $12.47 to learn a valuable lesson. I will never buy another product again without reading the AMAZON reviews. I do not know what I was thinking taking a title at face value. I will blame it on lack of sleep. I use RELAXING classical music to get to sleep. These CDs contain such music but it is interlaced with VOCALS. The human voice can be stimulating and in some operas and chorals it is. Disc one gets you almost asleep with two relaxing instrumental tracks and then WHAP vocal. And disc two begins with the Bach vocal "SLEEPERS, WAKE!". I screwed up royally. If I had just read the reviews. David Raasch: "...vocals"; Nancy Sanka: "If it wasn't for the opera."; Serratia Jones: "Apart from the vocals."; James Stewart: "...offset by disturbing operatic voices." It is a good CD of great music but the vocals are stimulating NOT relaxing. I DO NOT recommend this set of CDs for anyone to use when trying to get to sleep. This is not unique. It seems that many "relaxing" CD collections are made by sadists who have two or three bands of soft music and then insert a hoedown or a march. It is all very frustrating for the sleep deprived. I noticed of the eighty plus reviewers there were only three verified purchasers and some reviews read like they were using the sample clips to make the review which is like reading the first two sentences of each chapter of a novel and then making a review. Many five star reviews seem written from the same script and some persons made multiple five star reviews separated by time. None verified purchasers. This CD set appears to have been hyped by the MADE FOR TV crew. So sad. But they got me! I played percussion in a symphony orchestra and concert band and snare drum and then cymbals in a military marching band. I truly appreciate good classical and march music.

I'm sorry to insert a question here rather than a review, but Amazon hasn't listed track times on this website so I can't answer the question myself without buying the CD: I understand that these are not the musical works in their entirety, but are these at least whole movements, or are they actually excerpts (i.e., shortened "themes" or other snippets)? It makes a big difference, at least to me. I agree with the reviewer that said that you miss a lot if all you get is the slow movement of a concerto, but if that movement itself is edited you don't even have the arc of experience that the composer intended for that movement. Another reviewer referred to "startling ... cuts" between vocal and instrumental pieces which also made me wonder .... Thank you!

My daughter is a violin student of 7 years and she has played 3 or 4 of these pieces for recitals. I bought the CD's so she could become familiar with the pieces as she was learning to play them. Now I find myself listening to the CD's almost every night when I go for my end of the day drive to relax. My favorites are the Mozart Concerto in G, the Mendelssohn Concerto in E minor and Beethoven's Romance in F on disc 2, but all the songs are exquisitely beautiful. I highly recommend it.

"Over 2 l/2 hours of the world's most beautiful music." These words on the cover are very close to true. What an incredible value this collection is!! So many of these compilations of this sort are cheaply produced, and those "greatest hits" collections are one trite piece after another -- after a while one runs screaming to the stereo to shut it off. However, this collection is top-notch, and the performers they chose are masterful musicians at the top of their game. Every selection is lovely, each one unfolding after the other in a sublime slide show of exquisite compositions performed by legends. This is TWO CDs of sparkling performances composed and performed by masters. There is not a bad selection or a piece of inferior quality in the entire lot. The violin is an extraordinary instrument that, when played correctly, can pluck the heartstrings and stir the soul. It is played perfectly by each puppetmaster on each one of these wonderful pieces, and the experience of listening to this collection is an exquisite journey for the heart and spirit. 5stars - "Get it. Got it. GOOD!" (shorts in winter)

This is one of the most user-friendly and yet still informative guides to wild edibles that I have found. I can't wait to put the information in it to use later this year!

It covers 32 reasonably common (and tasty) edible wild plants, in extensive detail, includes multiple full-color pictures, harvesting/locating tips, and prep/cooking information. The writing style is less dry facts and more of a narrative - I actually read this book straight through when I got it, instead of just using it to reference specific information. It was that well written.

From the plants listed, this book seems to be best suited for New England and Mid-Atlantic states, although quite a few of the species have a wide spread across the U.S.

Things I found particularly useful:
Edible plants and their toxic (or simply distasteful) look-alikes have their differing traits simply and concisely listed in table-format.
There are ample numbers of informative photos.
There's a glossery in the back with extremely handy line-drawings.
And there's a very handy color-coded table that shows when the different plants (and their individual parts) are at their prime for harvesting.

The Old Testament had the best voice of God. My only disappointment was that the New Testament voice of God was different. I don't understand why they did not keep the same voice of God for the New Testament. Samuel Jackson was not the best fit in my opinion for God in the NT. He would have been okay for any other voice except God. Blair Underwood was the best realistic passionate intense voice I have ever heard portrayed. The overall greatness of this Bible on CD outweighed any slight disappointments.
Just wondering what kind of joke was it to use Samuel L. Jackson in the New Testament as the voice of God??? This nearly ruined it for me. I kept picturing him in Jungle Fever as the crack addict and that other silly Pulp fiction movie. Sorry, Samuel we love you but not for the voice of our Almighty God! However, I give the Bible Experience an A for it's power packed emotion & dramatization. It sounded so real and natural. The Bible came alive just listening to the Words will impact and nourish you. Those Actors put there all in all into it and it showed.
You can listen to this in the car, home or when-ever. Having this Bible on CD
has been such a big blessing in my life. I strongly recommend that anyone who is thinking of buying it does so asap. One thing though, I was not expecting contemporary songs in between the New Testament. Why was this done?
They were good song but out of place. I just fast forwarded my CD dial. If I wanted songs that had no relativity to the New Testament Scriptures, I would have bought songs. I'm not sure why this was done? Other than two things, I was highly satisfied. If anyone is upset at the use of Hollywood Actors don't get upset, remember that God used a donkey voice in the Old Testament which means he can use whomever he pleases to accomplish His purposes. Just go out and buy it, it's well worth it.

I'm so proud of this project, I listen to this almost daily in my car when I'm traveling and when I pick up my children. my kids even love the dramatic reading of God's word. Blair Underwood is so underated, he reads Jesus words with love and compassion. this is a great investment..I do wish it was done in the king james version though..but this is fine. Will be reviewing the Old testament soon...Love It!!

5stars - "Effective Workbook for New Readers" (Mike Robinson)

Seventeen years ago I bought this book based on a homeschool supplier's recommendation. My son was almost 5 and I was planning to start "kindergarten" with him. I loved to read books to him, and he was interested in learning to read, but after a few weeks he just didn't seem to be catching on. So I put this book down for about 6 months, and when we started it again, he learned it easily and took off reading. I wonder if he'd been in a classroom if he would have been labeled a "slow learner" which might have stuck with him through the years. We only homeschooled for 3 years; when he went to school, they asked if he could skip a grade because he was so far ahead of the class. He graduated valedictorian from HS and is about to graduate with a 4.0 from a univ with a degree in Civil Engineering. (I say this not to brag but to point out that just because a child doesn't pick up reading early doesn't mean he is a "slow learner"!)
Back to this book...I liked the steady incremental building on learning the sounds of the letters, combining them into short words, and the clean, uncluttered pages--none of the cutesy drawings that some people think are necessary to entertain kids while they learn. It worked for us.

I first used this product 24 years ago when I began teaching my oldest son to read. I used it to teach all five of our sons to read. (We were homeschooling at the time.) Currently I am working for a non-profit company in Baltimore, Maryland, working with the poor and disadvantaged. I am now using Alph-Phonics to teach a 40 year old women how to read. I have found the book user friendly and effective in teaching basic reading skills. When one completes the course, he will know how to read. Also the instructions are such that other volunteers can pick this book up and teach someone to read. I would highly recommend this book.

I am a very avid reader and, in reading the Teacher's Manual section before using this to teach my kids, I learned a few things! This method WORKS! It makes so much sense the way it's presented and it's so cohesive, it just easily flows from one sound to another and the student makes words, sentences, and WRITES (in cursive!) ALL AT THE SAME TIME! I can't recommend this enough for beginning readers OF ANY AGE!!!
