This is me ranting about the Wal-Mart edition, but I feel that the same holds true for this edition as well as editions of other movies:

Okay, so don't get me wrong, I LOVE this movie. However, I HATE this product. My sister went to Target to get her copy of this movie because she had a gift card. She sent me a picture of the back of her copy so that I could compare the special features with the so-called "Ultimate Fan Edition" at Wal-Mart. With a few exceptions like the deleted scenes, the special features were basically identical. Even though the deleted scenes were not specifically listed on the back cover of the Wal-Mart edition, I just assumed that they were in fact there because 1) there might not have been enough room to fit all of the features on the back cover; and 2) after touting all of the special features, there was a phrase at the end of the feature listing that stated, and I quote, "and more!" So thinking that I was getting a 2-disc set, or at least a 1-disc with the same features that my sister got, I purchased it.
Uhmmmmmmm....?! Where is the MORE?!?!?!?!?! When I opened the package I discovered there was only1 disc! Okay, so I put it in the player only to discover there was no "more" then what was listed on the back cover. It seems to me that by being an "Ultimate Fan" and purchasing a package labeled as such, that I would get what any ultimate fan would want....the most special features that I could get for my money. And am I the only one that is confused? Am I missing something? My "Ultimate Fan Edition" has only one disc. And to top it off, that one disc is labeled "Disc 1." WHERE'S DISC 2 WITH THE "MORE" THAT THE CASE PROMISES?? I think this marketing scheme is extremely misleading and so very unfair! I can see within the various store offering a certain feature that others would not have (such as Target did with Twilight by having a digital copy, or with New Moon having a one-of-a-kind film cell), but withholding basic film features so that consumers have to buy 5 different editions of the same f'n film to see everything is wrong. And having an edition of the film that has a disc labeled "Disc 1" and then not having a disc 2 is messed up. I am hoping that this was an unintentional mistake...a mere oversight, but I doubt it. I am going to forward this to Wal-Mart's corporate offices in hopes of a resolution. If this is how they are going to mislead their customers, I don't think I'll be purchasing much from them anymore..... and I'll be passing this info on to all of my friends who are fans.

1stars - "So Not Happy" (C. Edis)

I just rented the movie from Blockbuster and was surprised. I thought this was a movie for teenage groupies similar to the teenage girls during the Elvis rage. Instead I found it intriguing and better than a mystery novel. Apparently it's true -- love does indeed conquer all. The filming and drama were excellently directed in addition to the acting and special effects. I recommend this movie for anyone regardless of their predisposition and biases. You might be surprised as I was. The delimas posed in this movie are common to all of us who have had to chose between two or more lovers although the message was apparently to get teenagers in love to wait untill they reach 18 and to get married first.

5stars - "better than expected" (Michael A. Scheurich)

I love this movie despite it's flaws, just as I loved "Twilight." It is just so fun to see the "Twilight" series come to life on the big screen. I'm a grandmother and having so much fun from all of this! It's pure fantasy...no need to over analyze...relax and enjoy.

A great big thank you to Amazon for providing "New Moon" on line, March 20th, for those who pre-ordered the movie. That was unexpected and appreciated. That kind of service is one of the many reasons that I shop on amazon.com.

I was a huge fan of "New Moon" the book and couldnt believed how they could make this wonderful book into this poorly done movie..The screenplay slighted nearly every event in the book. The director had a gold glow that just didnt work for me..All the characters looked different and not for the better...No great music, wow what happened their....I did like it better at home than at the movie theater with 20 screaming girls....****THIS IS ABOUT THE AMAZON DOWNLOAD******.....I purchased the 24 hour digital download which was nice because I was able to watch it at 9pm pacific time on the 19th...It downloaded easily BUT GUESS WHAT NO VOLUME.... I like this movie a lot. It is cute and funny and I love the new characters. I like the history of the New Orleans area that is included.

I am not Cajun or African American, but if I were I would be offended at the way they are portrayed in this movie. The Cajuns are made out to be stupid idiots roaming the wild. I thought the African Americans would be the successful ones the story was about and was sorely dissapointed to find out that they were the average Joe's and the white people were the successful, rich people. I really had hoped that Tiana would be the princess that was successful.

It is somewhat dark though. I appreciate the VooDoo that was included since that is true to the story of New Orleans, but for a kid, it is a little scary.

OK, who remembers outstanding Disney animated films? I sure do.
This last decade Disney dropped the ball after they reclaimed their standards in the late 1980's.
If it had not been for the Pixar films the last decade would have been a failure.

This film was much talked about. Then, underperformed at the box office.

Anyone remember good Disney characters? How about memorable Disney music with their films? Gone are the days.

The film is good BUT not up to the old Disney standards. Some humor. NOT enough to carry the film. In my opinion they went back to the standard of 1996's The Hunchback of Notredame which just was OK. Watchable but not outstanding. Not a film you look forward to watch again nor do you talk about.

No Disney songs you will remember. Notice no Oscar wins for Disney music in years. Jazz.

Pushing or better said shoving blu ray down everyone's throats. The DVD was like original DVD releases after the format came out in the late 1990's.
A plain Jane silver disc. WHERE is artwork from the film on it? No chapter search list. NO good extras. Just plain cheap. DISNEY, TAKE NOTE, NOT EVERYONE IS SWITCH TO MORE EXPENSIVE BLU RAY. I am sure NOT. I want to see extras on Disney DVD's. Not you have to spend a lot more money to get a blu ray or blu ray combo pack just to get any extras of worth.

Just a watchable animated film. You will not be talking about it or remembering the songs.

3stars - "I miss outstanding Disney films TERRIBLE DVD PACKAGE" (mskrisclark)

I'd like to begin in saying that if you're looking for a film that can be described as the modern-day classic Disney, then this is the movie for you! Naturally there will probably never be another 'classic' quite like Snow White or Cinderella, but The Princess and the Frog does a fine job of living up to the classic Disney name.

I first seen the film in theatres, and though a bit skeptical in how much I'd be into an animated, 2-D musical formatted like the oldies of yester-year, I found myself thoroughly enthralled by the perfection of the animation, the plotline, and the over-all quality of the film; considering the film was brought to us by the directors of such films as "Aladdin" and "The Little Mermaid," we can only expect as much! I'm in my early 20's, and I was just as giddy about the film as the little girl sitting next to me in the theatre was. It's filled with wonderful music, spectacular scenery, and a very nice streak of comedy that will keep you asking for more!

Over-all "The Princess and the Frog" has, to me, turned out to be a true masterpiece which I am sure will be treasured in the years to come. (Especially since it's the last 2-D film that, may possibly, ever be created by Disney.)

5stars - "One of my new favorites..." (Megan Heath)

In my view, Disney's golden age of hand-drawn animation was when they pumped out memorable hits like "Little Mermaid", "Beauty and the Beast" and "Aladdin". These movies were followed by a series of lower quality relatively forgettable films like "Emperor's New Grove" and "Hunchback of Notre Dame".

When I saw "Princess and the Frog" I felt like it ended Disney's down streak and "Princess and the Frog" might even rank it among the more venerable modern classics - sort of. The story is fresh and interesting, the characters engaging and the music is pretty catchy, even if it doesn't live up to the unobtainable legacy of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, who wrote the Oscar-winning scores of what I call the "golden age" classics.

It's also a good change of style to the Pixar hits, as much as I love them, and makes me feel a bit nostalgic about how cartoons used to not all be rendered by computer.

My toddlers love it, and I myself find the film entertaining! It isn't quite on the level of a "golden ager", but pretty close! Bravo, Disney!

As far as this particular package (the "Three Disc Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy"), I'm a big fan of being able to take my movies with me on my iPhone for the kids to watch on car trips so I love the iTunes copy!

Also, while I hold the controversial view that some hand-drawn Disney Blu-ray films don't really shine at 1080p (the antiquated cel animation of Snow White, for example, feels too basic to make the picture really pop), "Princess and the Frog" looks phenomenal! Cool lighting effects, shading and detailed scenery easily make this the most impressive feeling Blu-ray cartoon that doesn't use clay or silicon as the basis for its animation.

All-in-all a great movie and an excellent package. I highly recommend it!

4stars - "Looks Great on Blu Ray, Almost A Modern Classic" (P. Colin McGraw)

Music has always been a part of Walt Disney cartoons, going way back to Steamboat Mickey in 1928! But Disney never seemed to acknowledge jazz until now. The studio's newest feature film, The Princess and the Frog, has New Orleans jazz all over it! From the jazz based score by Randy Newman, and a jazz-talking alligator named Louis (who has the unmistakable voice of that cat named Satchmo) who plays "Dippermouth Blues" and a tribute to Sidney Bechet, this is one truly delightful film. The story takes place in the 1920s French Quarter and features the high quality hand drawn animation Disney is famous for. For the zydeco and cajun music fan there's a bit of that too, courtesy of Terrance Simien. Dr. John also gets a song and he's on the soundtrack CD too! Okay, there's the pop vocal love song by Ne-Yo to attract the teens, but there's plenty of other great music and a fun story line for adults. This may be my favorite Disney movie in years! Highly recommended for anyone from 8 to 80! Check out the companion Soundtrack on CD too!

2stars - "LOW BUDGET DRAMA" (Chacho)

I was not surprised when The Hurt Locker won The Academy Award for Best Picture. I expected it and had told everyone who would listen that it would win, as well as winning for Best Director. The film gave me a new respect for what people in the military have to deal with on a daily basis. The characters were vividly drawn out and the main character is one to be remembered: a man who could not give up the life because he had become the life.

Oscar winner about men at work. Bomb techs in Baghdad. Ugly jobs in an ugly place. Strong pictures of a world where you don't want to be. Not much story. No message. The world is what it is. War is war. Sometimes dangerous. Foreigners are hard to understand. Life or death are meaningless. Bad things happen. If you make a mistake, your friend may get killed. Or you. Now you see me, now you don't. The bomb is the Great Buddha.
Not a propaganda film. Not for this war. Not against this war. Sometimes boring. Sometimes the workers feel stressed.
Competent little movie set in the Iraq war, but not really `about' it. I find it a little overrated.
Nice little bit parts for Guy Pearce and Ralph Fiennes.
What message did the `best film' academy award intend to give us?
Shouldn't it have been put in the documentary category? Well, maybe not. Some reviewers question the reality content of the film. I can't judge that. Since it focuses on one man with odd behavior, I tend to accept its realism, as long as we take it for a special case. Many odd individuals exist and are not recognized as part of this world by majorities. This does not reduce the value of the film, but it destroys the idea that it tells us a normal story.

"The Hurt Locker," this year's Oscar winner, is a very intense Iraq combat film in which Staff Sergeant James (played by Jeremy Renner) is extremely fearless and very adept at defusing planted bombs, but very inept at protecting from harm the men he works closest with. He's a risk-taker, a reckless soldier, who is baffled by civilian life but thrives on the danger of his mission. As a civilian, a fish out of water, an endless line of cereal products in a supermarket flummoxes him, and is a mine field, but yet in a real mine field, he thrives on danger and facing death every day.
He's a complex person who walks fearlessly into an area planted with bombs, but he's not a person to be envied, admired or emulated.
Ironically he has probably saved hundreds of lives by his bomb defusing skills, but saving lives isn't really what motivates him. It is his own personal adrenaline rush, his egotism, and self-absorption which keeps him going. He's not a war lover per se who goes out and slaughters the enemy indiscriminately, but he has the perfect job for his personality because it gives him a chance to play a kind of Russian roulette with his life.
The movie shows him in off-duty situations. He's a heavy drinker, heavy-smoker, and a person who enjoys violent interplay with his mates. They don't like him; they hate him and fear him even though at times he briefly shows compassion towards them. He's a man's man in his own mind, a cowboy, but basically a loner.
Though filmed in Jordan, you get the feeling that you really are in the mean streets of Iraq. The movie won't bore you; it's violent and bloody, but it's the character of Sergeant James that will stay with you. Is he the kind of man who is going to save the world, or is he part of the problem?

Whether or not this accurately portrays the Sherlock Holmes from the famous stories is unimportant, at least for me. I wanted to see a good, entertaining film, and that is exactly what I experienced. It is by no means a classic masterpiece, but it was certainly a fun ride. The plot is a tad on the choppy side, but it doesn't deter from whole experience.

The film works beautifully first and foremost because of the wonderful chemistry between Holmes and Watson. It felt pure and believable and watching them argue and bicker for almost the entire film was refreshing and amusing. Jude Law's Watson is the voice of reason and under all the sarcasm and berating, truly cares for his long-time friend. In my opinion, a perfectly cast role. Though I also loved Robert Downey Jr as Holmes, I felt that he muttered alot in the film and was at times hard to understand. But his physical presence saved the role and you can tell he put 100% into this part.

The scenery was gloomy and strangely beautiful, as were the period details, costumes, etc. Guy Ritchie did a fantastic job in reimagining the era and creating a sense of mystery tinged with a clever, comedic flair.

Sherlock Holmes contains enough action, mystery and comedy to keep just about anybody from being bored and would do well with multiple viewings.

Everything that this prior reviewer has said about Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes is spot on. This is what Sherlock Holmes was supposed to be if ever adapted into a feature film. Robert Downey Jr. either really did a critical read of the stories or he had somebody explain them to him very carefully and patiently because his acting is very similar to what you read on paper. He even had many of the mannerisms and meter down pact. This was a solid vision that Guy Richie had and he executed it well. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five was all the CGI which looked awesome but maybe the movie didn't need so much. Just my opinion. However those that were expecting a watered down Holmes should really read the stories and do some critical analysis and you will be surprised how wrong you are.

4stars - "Thank You Jason Bengtson!!!" (M. Lujan)

Sherlock Holmes will have to employ himself hard in order to decipher and follow the traces of this serial killer (Lord Blackwood), unraveling these puzzled clues and rejoining them in order to capture him and finally to reveal his sinister plans of conspiracy to rule the world.

As you may expect there will be lots of the well known steeled British humor all along the film. Once more, Robert Downey confirms what Robert Altman said about him, labeling as the Best Actor of his generation. Jude Law is breathtaking too as his fervent collaborator, Dr. Watson.

Don't miss this engaging and irresistible masterwork. The opened finale clearly suggest us the second saga.

This is a great movie and I desperately want it on blu-ray. That's it, just blu-ray. I have a blu-ray player. That's why I want the blu-ray. Why would I want the DVD as well? That's right I don't. I also don't want to watch it on a phone, so I don't need the stupd digital copy that doesn't even work in other countries and even if it did it only works for a limited time then I am stuck with the useless disc in my case forever. I only want to buy the blu-ray. This really sucks.

I've seen the trailers for this movie. If anybody thinks this has the least little bit to do with Sherlock Holmes, they are a born idiot.

WHY??? This is what I do not understand. You can't get an edgier or more exciting, unpredictable character than the REAL Holmes.

Please. If you want to watch rather than read Holmes, take the time to watch Jeremy Brett in the role. He was phenomenal; the kind of actor who overtakes the character in your mind and becomes him completely.

This movie apparently shares nothing at all with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle other than the character names. Really, really. Don't bother with it. Go watch Bond if you want Bond.

I liked the other movies from Roland Emmerich and was hoping to see something exciting with great visual effects.

Unfortunately, it was boring, predictable, the actors were really bad and the special effects looked as if they were made 15 years ago. When the ground is initially separating behind somebody running, then behind a car driving, then behind a plane taking off, this is seriously getting old. Some special effects were great, the vast majority so bad though that you immediately thought about the green room these scenes were taken in. Planes that after takeoff do not gain altitude, but drop a few thousand feets, then fly maneuvers that physically would not be possible, the scale of the model used does not match the environment and so on ...

For me this was the worst movie I have seen in the last 2-3 years, not worth the money, but maybe for younger kids that do not have a lot of comparison, it might be an O.K. movie.

Everything except the ending was very entertaining if you happen to really like apocalyptic or "doomsday" films.

80 percent of the film features a lot of action and I don't see how you could get bored watching it - it was very entertaining.
This majority part is what I really liked about the film.
Unlike some other reviewers I think the special effects were very impressive and had an epic feel to them.

So up until the ending I would have rated the film 5/5 for its entertainment value alone.

This leads me to the bad part of it: the ending.
The bad part is the extremely "cheesy" ending, I hated the ending of 'Independence Day' and the ending of this film is too similar to that. It's the same unrealistic, "pretty", and really stupid ending.

2012: 8 out of 10: I love disaster movies. I love good disaster movies such as The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure. I love bad disaster movies such as The Swarm and Independence Day. I even enjoy, if not love, Horrible disaster movies such as Syfy channel stalwarts Megafault and Magma: Volcanic Disaster.

2012 is solidly in the good disaster movie genre. As I have stated before in my The Core review Disaster movies always seem to do better when the disaster is local in scope. A city threatened by avalanche, a tower threatened by an inferno, a Poseidon threatened by an adventure, that kind of thing. Earth killer movies are always a harder road.

2012 dodges this bullet slightly by having neutrinos from a massive solar flare penetrate the Earth and cause the temperature of the core to increase rapidly. Like a microwave one scientist very helpfully explains. Of course why these same neutrinos dont cause the oceans to boil is a plot hole that the movie delightfully ignores. Still compared to The Core or The Day after Tomorrow, 2012s science is practically textbook.

Now since the core is expanding this causes the earths crust to erupt in different directions (think a Jiffy Pop container). This allows disaster footage from all over the earth. And we all know where disasters strike first. Thats right monuments. Vegas, Washington DC, Vatican City, Los Angeles, Yellowstone, Hawaii, and others get there turn in the special effects blender. The set pieces are generally well thought out often with sly commentary attached. (A giant rolling donut in LA, A slick atheist Where is your God now rub at the Vatican.). The special effects are all magnificent.

I will briefly talk about the actors in a minute (Generally speaking they all do fine) but the star is the effects. The detail work (as can be seen in the disaster porn pictures below) is simply amazing. Director Roland Emmerich puts his 250 million dollar budget on the screen. For once the buildings that collapse have people in them. The disasters do not happen in the rain or at night and the camera doesnt jerk around as if directed by an epileptic sugar glider.

The location work is creative as are the disasters. (Lets face it a tsunami driving an aircraft carrier into the White House is imagination at work.) In addition, the story is a fairly grounded version of that old When Worlds Collide plot where all the smart rich and good looking people get on a spaceship and escape Earth while all the less attractive people all die horribly.

The movie halfheartedly tries to address the unfairness of who gets chosen but we really didnt come for a civics lesson and honestly there are worse ways to go than just picking attractive rich people. We also didnt come for the acting, but unlike many of its contemporaries, the acting in 2012 seems solid across the board.

Some of the various side plots fall a little flat (especially considering the two and a half hour length, the old guys on the boat subplot could have been jettisoned in its entirety.) On the plus side Zlatko Buric as the Russian billionaire ex-boxer and Woody Harrelson as the crazy mountain man (doing his best Matthew McConaughey impression mind you) are the stand outs.

Overall we came for the disaster porn and simply put 2012 delivers some of the best disaster porn ever seen on screen, and manages this feat with fewer of the bad acting and horrible storyline distractions that usually accompany such films. Bravo.

5stars - "Lenny Bruce is not afraid" (Julian Kennedy)

This review contains no real spoilers but let me basically sum it up for you. This is just simply an absolute waste of movie film, digital film, or whatever the heck they are using these days to make cheesy flicks like this. Albeit, the special effects were decent but nothing you havn't already seen many times over in your typical disaster movie. On the other hand the acting was like something out of a 70's B movie, the plot was...wait a minute...there was no plot,and the storyline in general was nothing short of complete predictability. As if the non stop narrow death misses of the main characters were unbelievable enough the writer of this train wreck apparently thought it amusing to have several moments of humorous quips from the characters while the world was falling down around them. Adding further suspension of disbelief, people in this film stop and talk about stupid personal issues during the most ridiculous moments as buildings are toppling all around them and the earth is virtually crumbling under their feet. By the way, did I mention that none of these characters are interesting or likable except for maybe Woody Harrelson as the amusing nut job conspiracy theorist. Poor ol Woody must have really needed the paycheck because this film will end up going down as one of the worst made on his resume. During the film all I could do was wish and hope for everyone to DIE and die quickly to put me out of my misery from this maelstrom of over dramatic non-sense. Lastly, of course it's the MADE IN CHINA ship that provides the true safe haven for humanity. Gee, don't see any political double meaning with that? Guess we should all keep shopping at Wal-Mart because we are actually funding our future for survival of the human race.
