Although I think that the books were very simplistic and filled with teenage drama I thought that they were entertaining enough to actually read the complete series. In "New Moon" the characters are already established and the book takes us into new territory and a three-way love triangle between Bella, Edward, and Jacob. We find out that Jacob was carrying a ressesive gene that was activated soon after the results of the first book ended. What happened was that Jacob actually is a wolf shape shifter who's sole purpose is to kill any and all vampires. Edward feels the need to "protect" Bella from himself and leaves her to live a supposedly normal "human" life. In the time after Jacob and Bella's friendship grows and their emotional attachment becomes deeper. Jacob falls for Bella and Bella begins to love Jacob. However, Bella's first love Edward is the one who she wants to be with. Jealousy, tension, and anger ensues between the 3 characters. But not before Bella having to run to Italy to save Edward from a grizzy fate of exposing Vampires to the moral world, hence, being killed by the Vampire World's "Royalty".

Overall, the movie itself did a decent job at translating the book to screen. However, there is no passion that the characters show and the intense scenes between the threesome end up being nothing more than melodramatic. Causing the characters to look like nothing more than cry babies and whiners instead of characters who are housing deep emotional scares and fears from life and love's journey.

I love Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn probably more than any woman my age should. (Stephenie Meyer was truly inspired!) If I could, I would read and re-read these books unceasingly. However, I have a life and my amazing kids to keep up with. ---
As for this movie, it is not even half as good as the book, but it is probably as good as it could be given the circumstances. Yes, I miss all the nuances and important details revealed in type; and as most fans, I left the theater disapointed and wanting more. But, it wasn't a complete let down. The screen version did convey the story, and I did tear up when viewing it (that was a big criteria for me, because I cry my eyes out each time I read New Moon). The movie was a corny, muted version of the book but it still let viewers see Bella's heartache and disfunction when the Cullens leave and her mending and rebuilding due to Jacob and their love/friendship for eachother. I have seen it in the theater 3 times, and each time it gets better. I will definitely be buying it when it comes out, and plan on watching it with my husband as many times as I can. :o)

This was not a good film. Some of the scenes were hilarious in how cheesy they were. "Oh you have a tiny scratch, well I should take off my shirt then...for the scratch." It was also really boring. The only reason it doesn't get one star is because the WOLVES ARE AWESOME! But aside from that its really not worth seeing let alone buying.

THWE FEATURES ARE VERY LIMITED INDEED IT HAS A 65 MINUTE FEATURETTE AND MUSIC VIDEOS BUT UNLIKE THE ENGLISH RELEASE WHICH HAS OVER 3 HOURS OF BONUS CONTENT I WOULD RECONSIDER.

THERE ARE NO DELETED SCENES, BECOMING JACOB, MEET THE WOLFPACK JUST TO NAME A FEW...

I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH MY PURCHASE AND I WOULD RECCOMEND A DIFFERENT VERSION THEN THE DVD 2 DISK SET.

2012 is a long movie with some of the best CGI I have ever seen. Upon my first watching I did not stay until the end and felt the film had no real point or purpose. The next night I settled in and watched it in its entirety. All the special computer graphics available do not a story make without the very real need for a story of humanity...especially in a film about the end of the age we now live in. There is heroism portrayed as well as the baser human instincts such as selfishness and the ability many have to look the other way as fellow humans face disaster. The John Cusack character (Jackson Curtis) is shown as rather self centered and careless about his family which results in a separation of he and his wife and she having a live in boyfriend who wants to have Curtis' family for himself. The actor who portrayed Gordon did so in a very smug self satisfied way and when at length he doesn't make it through the opening of the ark's gates...I was not disappointed. Jackson Curtis realizes that he and the worker who opened the way for them to enter the ark are the ones responsible for the inability of the ship to start the engines putting all on board at risk of life. Knowing his own life is in danger he rises to the occasion and with the help of his son is able to free the jammed mechanism so that the ark has ability to start the engines and sail to Africa. The Curtis family is reunited and they discover that home really is where there is love, sacrifice and trust. The film ends with hope and altogether I would highly recommend viewing this work.

5stars - "Took Two Viewings Before I liked It" (George Heiser)

First of all, I think the DVD had a few good extras in it. You see a relatively long clip on how the movie is made and an alternative ending with a few deleted scenes.

The film itself had some interesting special effects. Living in the Los Angeles area, it was fascinating seeing what is basically your whole world coming apart, again. I think that is at least the fifth time in recent history including Independence Day, Terminator, The Day After Tomorrow, and of course in the past, The War of the Worlds.

Interesting too was the reference to the earth shifting on its axis, and used to get them to a desination faster, okay, well....

I did like Woody Harrelson playing a type of Harry Truman from Mt. Saint Helens fame wrapped up into an Art Bell type radio character. Pretty funny stuff. The scene of Yellow Stone getting whacked was interesting, makes you wonder if and when that does happen, what the result will be.

One person mentioned the politicians getting rescued, let's not forget the very rich as well. Makes you wonder, if there were a disaster at this scale, what would be the endeavor to save as many lives as possible? What would our leaders do?

I felt the story line took a couple of swings at England and Rome, not sure why they were singled out and seemingly made to look rediculous.

For action and tempo, basically the movie was non stop. Glad they deleted some of the scenes they did, and wish they had tweeked a character or two a little.

I don't know what movie the rest of these brain-fried people saw. I'm sure glad I watched the movie before reading their 3rd grade diatribes.

This was one of the most excellent, thrilling, action-packed disaster movies I've ever seen. There's not a boring moment in the entire movie and has you on the edge of your seat every moment.

It was a pleasure to finally see a disaster movie which is truly packed with disasters destroying the entire planet and every identifiable landmark instead of wasting time with ridiculous side stories. Most of the movie is through the viewpoint of global scientists, leaders and the struggle of one family to survive. I watched it for the disaster storyline, not their personal stories. When people complain about the lack of depth for the family, this is a disaster movie, not Sleepless in Seattle. If they had spent a lot of time on the personal issues of families, it would have ruined the movie and impeded the flow of suspense.

I'm thankful they kept to the main core of the plot "The destruction of the Earth!" The entire movie was a fresh concept for global destruction. I was surprised to learn that these were not spaceships... although I think that would have been neat as well. However, it did not make as much sense for the two leaders which stayed behind, as it might have made if these had been interplanetary vehicles.

While I understand the concept that no gov't would inform the population of such a cataclysmic event due to global panic and violence which would ensue from the very type of people who wrote those ridiculous critiques... many could have survived via ships or high altitudes if they had known planetary flooding was the main issue.

You can also bet the wealthy, famous and chosen few would be the ones to get the seats. It isn't pretty, but unfortunately, realistic (as was the elimination of anyone who threatened to spill the beans). However, I doubt the escape ships would have all been in China. Each country would have had their own assembled at their respective black ops sites, under their control.

It was obvious the person in charge of the plane flight scenes had no knowledge of aerodynamics or piloting. Planes simply cannot fly like that and would have stalled and crashed within minutes. However, it did not make it any less exciting. Having had about the same amount of flying skills, I did share Gordon's horrific predicament at being expected to fly a plane he had never trained for. That part was realistic but I doubt he would have managed that well under those conditions (not even in a simulator). However, it didn't dampen the excitement of the scenes.

Same with the unbelievable driving escape scenes where no vehicle could survive the bizarre destruction sequences. Yet, no less exciting even though we knew it was over the top. We were still on the edge of our seats all the way.

On the "divorced family being saved by the part time dad" issue... that has been overused from movies like Day after Tomorrow and War of the Worlds, so the theme is too repetitious as is the bratty kid routine which was also used in the Day the Earth Stood still. So, on this subject, these directors and writers do need to get away from these overused themes. In this film, would have opted to save Gordon in this scenario since he was the one who earned the family's love & respect.

You can also bet that the cell phones and electricity would not be working and there would have been in a lot more global panic. However, our beloved media & political circus would have certainly been making jokes chastising everyone for making a big deal out of nothing (as depicted) while the planet was disintegrating beneath their feet. Have to keep the masses calm no matter what.

The officials also seemed to be unreasonably blind as to what was occurring globally when they had access to hundreds of orbiting satellite systems. It took these survivors a month to find out that one of the continents had not flooded, (despite the supertech ops center they had?) As a director, I would have opted to flood all of the continents. I would not have left any landmass untouched because that really changed the dynamics.

I would also have also opted for a simple discovery of the father alive on his ship & his rescue without the alternate ending discourse dialogue. Tsunami's are not as bad at sea as they are near a coast. At sea, they are swells, not waves, so it is likely large ships out at deep sea would have faired quite well. The film's research on realistic effects of cataclysmic occurrences was a bit thin.

Opening the gates of the ships at the last moment was in poor judgment. If they had done so earlier, it would have been ok, but to wait until the tidal wave was on the way was most definitely not the smartest thing to do with humanity at stake.

It would have been better with the President all the way to the end of the movie. The Secret Service would not have left him under any circumstances despite any protest he might have made. He would have never been out of their sight and they would have taken him by force if necessary to save him and the continuity of gov't. I think this should have been handled quite differently than it was. I did not agree with the fate of this character. He should have been a survivor and an inspiration to the survivors.

Even with these improvements I would have opted for, I still loved the movie. It was a great disaster film!

Don't listen to these brain-fried low brows that were probably dragged away from their favorite sports game and beer, etc., by their families and forced to watch the movie. Their lack of education and mentality is obvious just by reading their mindless attempts to attack the director and film to get revenge for missing their favorite TV sports; It was obvious just by the time of year and date this film was released. The reviews improved as soon as football season was over. That should tell you something about the hostility & validity of those holiday reviews.

Think for yourself. If you enjoy action packed disaster movies, you will love this movie. It outdoes any disaster movie ever made. If you are looking for soapy relationships... then perhaps Sleepless in Seattle is a better choice for you. If you are looking for info on the Mayans & 2012... then you should look for documentaries with that info. But this is not for thin-skinned picayune whiners who are impossible to please.

This movie is for people who love disaster and action movies. The scientific concept of this disaster is fresh and original. The director does a great job of destroying every famous landmark and anticipated trouble spot across the planet. You get to see California fall into the ocean; the Yellowstone Caldera in a magnificent explosion; Hawaii buried in lava; the Sistine Chapel crumbling into dust around the masses; the Las Vegas casino's disintegrating magnificently; the destruction of Brazil's landmarks; Washington DC in ruins; California skyscrapers crashing around their ears; incredible tsunami's miles high... covering every coast on the globe; continents tearing apart into horrific chasms taking everything of civilization down with it. You can't ask for more than this movie has to offer in disasters. A refreshing change from all those movies where they usually save civilization in the nick of time. Not this one. They utterly destroy it along with a majority of the population, in full realistic "top of the line" effects!

This is by far the best disaster movie ever made with the most fantastic effects you could ever hope for. It is truly like riding the world's scariest roller coaster for almost 3 hours. You are on the edge of your seat throughout the entire movie. Not a boring moment. The tension is tight from start to finish and will twist you into knots without a chance to catch your breath. There are no pauses between the action and constant tension. The bigger the screen, the better you will appreciate the experience. This ultimate disaster movie is indeed all about the fantastic special effects. They did not scrimp on any of them.

You will not be disappointed if you love disaster movies crammed with global destruction and special effects. This film outdoes any disaster movie ever made.

This movie is ok however the blue ray disk sucks!!! This companies keep making discs that won't play on Power DVD version 8 and prompt you to buy version 9 so they can make more $$. [...]
I have Music CD's and I can play 10 years old cd on any CD player and they play. Now with this Blu Ray disk you have to keep updating the software or it won't play. It will play on the Sony PS3 made by Sony but not on your computer even if you have Power DVD. This really sucks!!
I won't to blog sites and a lot of people are having the same problem with this movie. It starts but there is no menu to play the movie so you can not see it.
This companies sould get a class action suit so they can start making products that you can use in any Blue ray player.

After reading some of the other reviews, I thought I'd write one of my own.

If you haven't seen this film and you're looking for an action film that isn't too deep and doesn't force-feed you a political message, then this film will fit that requirement. If you're expecting an accurate portrayal of an EOD specialist in Iraq or what life is like for the military on a day-to-day basis, I don't think this is it.

I know the movie has been touted by critics to be very realistic. There are many factors that may have contributed to this claim of realism. The movie does omit many of the long-time Hollywood standards, like trampoline jumps and spittoon-sounding ricochets. The absence of these acrobatics and unrealistic sounds might make it seem more realistic to viewers.

The way injuries were portrayed was more realistic than you might find in other action/war movies of the same genre. Unlike Rambo films where all injuries are superficial, when someone was wounded in this film, that person didn't get up in the next scene and act like the life-threatening wounds he'd received minutes ago were mere scratches. Someone with a leg injury actually had to go to the hospital and couldn't use that leg to walk, run, or deliver a roundhouse kick to a bad guy and a guy standing next to an exploding device was actually killed, not just flipped into the air.

The movie also avoids making a definitive political message. Even if in reality, soldiers often vocalize their political views, the makers of the film didn't use the characters as a mouthpiece for their own political views, which I think is a positive point. I think the film neither glamorizes war or makes soldiers look like bloodthirsty murderers.

I think it's also fair to say that the movie pointed out that being in EOD requires a special kind of personality; someone who goes toward the source of imminent danger while everyone else is headed the other way. At the same time, the techniques the protagonist (SFC James) used to dismantle explosives was pure Hollywood. The movie didn't have the trope-laden red wire/blue wire dilemma or the over-used plot device where a bomb's timer stops with one second to spare, but I don't think any current or former EOD specialist would say that the techniques shown in the film are even remotely accurate, especially carelessly pulling on wires with enough force to uproot a series of artillery rounds.

The dialogue and character development were both fairly good. The movie avoided the cheap one-liners so popular these days and also didn't stereotype any of the characters. Each person had his own qualities and set of problems, some of which get resolved and others that don't. The characters' interactions with one another were believable. I did have a hard time relating to the protagonist, though, mostly because of his inability to recognize what was wrong with disregarding the safety of the men in his unit while he was playing cowboy and doing his own thing. Later in the film, it's revealed that he had some compassion for the men he works with, but this doesn't make up for the times he needlessly endangers them, even if it does seem to work out for him (more or less).

With all that being said, I don't think it was a horrible film if taken at face value, but I also don't think it is an eye-opening new look at the war in Iraq or a snapshot of the day-to-day dangers faced in combat.

I just had to give this movie 1 star. It's just amazing how masmedia can manipilate a crowd. Those people can feed any bs they want like toyota unsafe (like those people care about your safety), go see twilight new moon wonderful movie ( why not to give this family flick oscar too? ). I agree with octoworm's kid's review. It's pathetic, unrealistic, pretentious, masterpiece wanna be pog.
It's just shows to world again what all this oscar "awarding" dirty business is. Mel Gibson was right.

The Hurt Locker presents the conflict in the Middle East from the perspective of those who witnessed the fighting firsthand the soldiers. As an elite Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team tactfully navigates the streets of present-day Iraq, they face the constant threat of death from incoming bombs and sharp-shooting snipers. In Baghdad, roadside bombs are a common danger. I have a friend that is EOD, and he and I watched this movie, he said that while this movie is a bit of a far cry as to how they really operate, it's still a really entertaining movie. He said military guys know, you can't exactly go rogue too many times, because the hammer of authority will come down upon you. The constant threat of dying, hot and heavy bomb suits, the robots, the tempermental personalities in conflict with one another, strained lives back home, and silly officers who filter into a situation with the idea of taking charge yet have no idea what's going on, now that is entirely true to life. But it makes for a good story. The acting is really quite good and the directing is awesome. For those who like military movies or just action movies, this one is a good.

4stars - "The Hurt Locker" (Arnita D. Brown)

Not only one of the best movies ever made in the War genre, but simply one of the best movies ever made. The desert devistatingly hot conditions always present in Iraq while difussing I.E.D.'s and wearing a defensive heavey suit of materials designed to protect the difusser, portray a mood which adds to the already cliff hanging danger surrounding each mission. There are times when I found myself actually holding my breath as the difusser held wires in his gloved hand, looking throuh the viser of a cumbersome all enclosing helmet, and trying to determine just where to cut the wires without exploding the I.E.D.s were pathos beyond belief. This movie hit the theaters with little response when it first came out, similar to the movie Jerimiah Johnson. Both were brought back when it became clear that these movies were indeed something special, and like Jerimiah Johnson, 'The Hurt Locker' will become a classic for the ages. Better even than Stanley Kubrik's, Heavy Metal Jacket.

5stars - "The Hurt Locker" (Edward C. Steinhaus)

The Hurt Locker is one of the most tedious films I've seen in quite a while. It was simply a series of vignettes of a bomb disposal unit in "action", except there is no action, no tension, just mind-numbing repetition with rote dialog to match. The absence of character development did not bode well for the film as I didn't care about any of them. There was a blurb on the screen in the beginning to apparently explain "War is a Drug" or some such nonsense, then to connect the dots to that statement, near the end of the film there is a very small scene of Jeremy Renner's main character at home bored out his mind (he had apparently been forced to watch the days rushes for "The Hurt Locker"). This is what passes for entertainment these days. Absolutely worthless. The whole wretched affair gets one star for its director Kathryn Bigelow looking so fetching at age 58.

The movie The Princess and the Frog is about a girl who has a dad and a mom. Her dad wants a restaurant, but never gets one. The girl takes his place and earns the restaurant. Before she earns the restaurant, when she prays a frog appears by her window. If you see the movie, you'll find out what happens next.

My favorite part of the movie was when the crocodile came on the boat like a fox. He went on the boat because he wanted to play jazz with the people but they just scattered him off like a cat. When I saw this I was eager to see what was going to happen next.

A movie that inspired me to go see The Princess and the Frog was the movie Cinderella. It has romance and balls in it just like The Princess and the Frog. The part with romance in Cinderella that inspired me was when the prince and Cinderella get married.

If you are someone who is looking for a fairytale with romance then the movie The Princess and the Frog is the movie for you. The movie is sweet and weird. It is sweet because Princess Tiana finds love. It's weird because this girl kisses the frog and gets kissing marks all over the frog.

1stars - "drag me to hell" (Jon's mom)

I watched this movie during the weekend and did not expect it the way it is. The interaction of the frog stories is very cute and the whole idea of a princess having to kiss a frog to make him human again. However, this story is about Voodoo magic and it is something a lot of kids will not understand and are going to become frightened when they see several images as the movie goes along. Besides the scary images (which also include showing the bad guy walking around and a completely different image of its shadow against the walls) there is also references to Satan as the Shadow Man mentions during several occasions his 'master' (or something like that).

I would not buy this movie to any kid. I strongly recommend an adult to watch it first before showing it to a kid. I do not think Disney should have gone to the extremes with the Voodoo and black magic stuff.

As animation, fantasy this was a good movie. As themes go, I must say that this movie smells. Typical racist attitude, that Disney has exibited forever. An up and coming young Black Princess, unable to find that ideal man to make her life complete, circumstances lead her to...

A great deal has been written about the fact this is an interracial situation. As usual it is the White guy with the woman of color. As if it does not occur in the other direction. Oh yes that continues to be taboo in 21st century America. Like many of the early Westerns, the White guy get the beautiful Indian Princess, or the beautiful Mexican dancer.

Why an exploration of interracial dating with this film aimed at mainly young Black impressionable girls, and in this manner. Why not both ways to tell our young people there is nothing wrong with a Black man having a wife that is White, or even a White man with a Black wife. Or maybe that is the point. It is ok for the White man to marry outside the norm, but not the White woman? Or worse yet the Black man is persona non grata. This is a theme I have observed a great deal in Hollyweird, Hollywood, of late, since "The Body Guard."

In a great many movies of late we will see one Black woman, and she just happens to be the love interest of a White guy, and hang out with only White guys. Not one Black male in the entire movie. Disney has even placed this theme in some of it's for children weekly animation series. Then there is Nickelodeion's "True Jackson," and ABC Family's "Lincoln Heights." All aimed a young people containing the same theme. Why?

Please Hollywood, wake up realize that this thing called interracial dating, and marriage happens both ways, and being racist about the theme is a horrible way to show our young people how life happens to be. Sad that we cannot get past these sterotypes, built into our outlook so long ago, and this animated movie does nothing to empower society to look past color.

Do I wish this movie had been all Black, maybe. Should Snow White have had people of color included, or Sleeping Beauty, of course. But when the first movie for Black children comes to being, why must it have this theme? I wonder how many behind the scenes people with a little power were Black? I do not know, but I dare say none. Thus the insensitivity of this presentation. So what if a bunch of...

Do you remember your childhood? It was an innocent time, full of wonders that were yours and yours alone. When the real world got you down you always knew that your world was waiting for you. Then as you got older things were changing all around you in ways you couldn't understand and at the same time your world was no longer a place you wanted to escape to. That is what the whimsical world of Max is all about in `Where The Wild Things Are.'

Based on one of the most beloved children's book, we are brought into the world of Max. He is a boy with a fierce imagination and is always looking for others to join him in his adventures. Apparently there was a time when plenty of people were part of his world. Now things are not as fun as they use to be. He is having a hard time being ignored by his teenaged sister and doesn't seem to understand why his mom is so wrapped up in work and dating other men since the passing of his dad. One night he realizes he just can't take it anymore and runs away. He finds is a lonely row boat that takes him to a far off place. There he finds a whole bunch of large creatures that just want to play and have just as much fun as Max. They welcome Max into their world and make him their king. As King Max tried to bring the two worlds together, but something happens especially with one of the creatures named Carol (Played by James Gandolfini) After that Max suddenly realizes that sometimes even when you trying to escape from your troubles they will always find away to catch up and the only way to make them go away is to face them.

Where The Wild Things are is not a fantastic movie, nor is it horrible. It is a very original style of film making that you don't see too often, so it takes a little bit of getting use to. This movie was a real risk on director Spike Jonze. To take a book that has no more than 9 lines of dialogue and create a whole world out of it is nothing short of brilliant. This movie unfortunately can send many mixed signals, especially to parents of young children. Despite the PG rating this is not a film for kids. This movie is mature in nature, it's about a child trying to cope with growing up. It may have its elements of fantasy and big fuzzy creatures, but these big fuzzy creatures are as real as real can be. They suffer because of the anarchy they live in and just want to be set strait and given direction and Max wants to get away from all of that. He realizes that being a king takes a lot of hard work and responsibility and he discovers that some times only thinking about you can lead to torn friendships and hurting hearts. It's a movie that really tugs at all of your emotions. It's a movie especially for us who love the story will appreciate. It was a movie that was made for the grown-up in all of us to remember the joys and hardships of being young again. Again, it is a very different style of film, but it is so creative and full of wonder it is not to be missed.

3stars - "A wonderous fantasy about the reality of growing-up" (Underground Reborn)

Where the wild Things Are is sort of depressing. Most of the film has a gloomy atmosphere. It's not really for kids, thats for sure. I read the book long ago but I recall it being more up-lifting than the movie. It's about Max who runs away from home and goes to an island by boat and becomes the king of the Wild Things. The Wild Things are interesting looking and all seem to have problems, such as anger issues, being ignored, or feeling lonely. I guess they all share some traits of Max. Kind of like the movie "9" where the scientist split his soul/emotions/ personality or whatever into the 9 different sack poeple. In the end,this movie doesn't make you feel all happy and warm. I was glad when it was over.

First off I will say that this movie made me feel like a little kid having a dream - the sort of dream I wish I could still have or have more often. The unpredictable spontaneity of how the environment and moods of the characters shift from one scene to the next, not to mention the dialogue, is uncannily dreamlike.

I'm a guy who digs action flicks, crime sagas, dramas, and some comedy as well as the excellent films made by Pixar. There are some film scenes that leave me a bit misty-eyed, but this movie - Where the Wild Things Are - had me ready to burst into tears. Tears of longing and sorrow mixed with joy. Longing to stay on that beautiful island and sorrow at leaving behind what felt like the best of friends, but yet joy of breaking free and coming home.

I was deeply moved by this movie and would highly recommend it.

My 3 year old son and i watched this movie together...the music was awesome, the screaming runnng through the house stuff...no big deal, he watched this movie a few times in a row and took all the postive things from it. We sing the songs during the day when we are playing and cleaning.
I know people want to tell other people what they should and shouldn't watch. I say if it seems like an interesting movie to you give it shot. Don't over think it.

I`ve read the source material, and the Holmes depicted in this film measures up very well.

What is throwing some people is that whereas Doyle served up Holmes` personal particulars in small sporadic doses; this film delivers them all in one shot, and it is a bit overwhelming.

Nonetheless, all the elements of the character seen here are evident in the original stories.

Give credit where it is due; this Holmes is ALWAYS THINKING, and that is the hallmark of the character. Even when he is fighting, it is an intellectual exercise to him.

Just as in the Granada Television series; the Watson herein is the competant, intelligent and reliable friend that he should be...(Gone forever I hope, is the bumbling idiot that Watson became in the Rathbone/Bruce movies)

While there is no Jeremy Brett here, Robert Downey Jr. clearly put solid effort into his Sherlock, and while his depiction is a more gritty, 'warts and all' Holmes, I actually found the foibles and failures to be refreshing. Again, Doyles` Holmes was not perfect as anything other than a detective, so it`s all within the scope of the character. There is a risque` scene that has Holmes gulled and placed in a particularly foolish and vulnerable position, and that no doubt puts off the Holmes Purists as an insult to the character. I won`t argue that it is pandering to the prurient-minded... but I also say that it hardly ruins the rest of the film.

Finally; Doyle did not create Sherlock Holmes as an intellectual exercise, he created him as entertainment, and this film is entertaining.

I`ll be just fine with adding this Sherlock to my Holmes collection.

I am a big fan of The Seven Percent Solution, so this energetic version of Sherlock Holmes suits me just fine.

Robert Downey Jr. is great as a younger, more pugalistic version of Holmes than people are used to seeing (the curse of Basil Rathbone). Jude Law is also a very good Dr. Watson, less bumbling than the usual Watson, which I also liked. I really was'nt expecting to enjoy this film as much as I did, but the action, acting, atmosphere, story line and the cinematography won me over.

The plot revolves around Holmes trying to thwart the nefarious plans of a man thought to be a ghost. I liked the Illuminati references in the movie, depicting how the upper-crust of British society was into occult practices, which is not a fantasy. There are alot of well designed action scenes in this film that did not over-power the film. Guy Ritchie has managed to revitalize a very dormant franchise with this film, I hope there are more waiting in the wings.

Because it was clearly a film made by S.H. fans for S.H. fans. I was blown away by this film. I loved it, and I can't wait to own it. I'm a long-time fan of all things Sherlock Holmes, but was never content with the watered down Rathbone interpretation of the character and stories. I love the A&E series (and have all of these) and Jeremy Brett interpretation. Downey got it right and even better was the contemptuous but platonically affectionate friendship of Doctor Watson. Chemistry all around was really great. The action scenes were breathtaking - both physical and mental and the audience is right there in the scene. The story was downright original. I can't say enough good about this film.

I wanted to like "Sherlock Holmes." I really did. But this movie was so bad that I nearly fell asleep five different times during the film, which is a rarity for me. I'm 35 and have a film degree, so I'm not some senior citizen who can't let go of earlier Holmes versions or the text of the written works (or who can't stay awake past 8:30). I found the writing to be trite, dull and often just plain silly. The actors did the best they could with the muddle of a script and the bad directing from Guy--if the story gets boring, throw in a fight and some property damage--Ritchie (whose films I used to enjoy). And the dialogue was unintelligible at several points in the film. If I can understand Monty Python, I can understand any British accent. It wasn't the accents, it was the mumbling of the actors and the pacing of the story. Maybe Ritchie figured he could make the story more exciting (good luck) by speeding up the dialogue. If you like brainless and badly directed movies, you could do worse than "Sherlock Holmes"...but, seriously, why would you want to?
