the a/c adapter was recalled by the manufacturer. I wrote to them twice requesting the replacement adapter but still have not received any response. It's been two months now. I'm scared to use it, worried about it starting a fire in my home.

This La Crosse BC-9009 battery charger does it all. If you want to recharge a battery, just insert the battery and it gets charged. If the battery isn't fully discharged, choose the second mode to discharge and then recharge it. If you think the battery isn't lasting as long as it should, choose to condition it -- the battery will be discharged and recharged until it reaches maximum capacity. The fourth mode will test your battery and give you a readout of its capacity.

The charger will test a battery when inserted and on two occasions refused to recharge them, suggesting the battery is at the end of its useful life. I inserted those two batteries in another charger to charge them a bit and then put them in the La Crosse where they charged. I haven't used those two batteries in a real life situation to confirm they are bad, but they were at least five years old and I suspect the BC-9009 charger made a correct diagnosis.

The list price is around $70 but I bought it here at Amazon for $35.00.

It comes with 4-AA batteries, 4-AAA batteries, and adapters to use the AA batteries as C or D batteries.

I am completely happy with my purchase, and at $35 consider it a bargain.

BTW, a few weeks after my purchase, the La Crosse folks sent me e-mail saying the power supply may not be up to their standards, and are sending me a more powerful replacement. That's great customer support in my book.

I've been told that unit is backorder and I'll get replacement after 6(six!) months or they can send me MUCH CHEAPER BC700.With no other option I agreed to get BC700.

If you are looking for the best AA/AAA Battery charger - then look no where else. I have had no less the 5 "other" battery Chargers - this is by far the Best. It takes care of refreashing/recharging and gives you a read out of what is happening. I wish I would of know about this earlier but now I do and I will be adding another one to the house as we are always going through Batteries. This is my way of cutting cost and helping the enviroment (LIL bit). Folks - JUST BUY THIS CHARGER - IT WORKS GREAT!!

They perform really well, lasting in some cases 1/4 again as long as an alkaline, which ends up having to be recycled, or in many cases thrown away. One thing I noticed is that the description says these are 2700 MaH batteries, but the ones I received are 2500 MaH. That's not too much difference, so I am happy with them. They are Sanyo like the description says, and these are the correct family of battery, as advertised, just slightly lower MaH rating than described.

I purchased new Sanyo NiMH 2,700 AA's in Dec 2009. I fully charged then at 270 MA for 12 hours on variable voltage and current power supply as I do with all my rechageable, as per the current rated battery. I ran them in my hand scanner for an hour. Good news. Then next day the same. More good news. The next day, NOTHING! I checked the voltages. At .19 volts is what I read on my DMM. I replaced the batteries with 2,600 MA Tenergy's. I recharged the Sanyo's, then repeated the same sequence again. Same results. I did it again the next days. Dead again. I did another test. I charged them again. I have 2 scanners so I put 2 batteries in each scanner and turned them on to an aircraft frequency. They lasted 2 hours and both went dead within 1 minute of each other. I wouldn't recommend these batteries to anyone. The model number is: HR-3U 1.2 V. I didn't save the reciept as I have NEVER had any problems with any NiMH, or LiPO batteries I have purchased. Stay away from these Sanyo NiMH's. I don't remember the seller and now I'm out the cost and shipping. I'll check on my sales list, maybe I can find the seller there.

I'd been searching to replace the aging rechargeable batteries that I use in my camera equipment. Diligent work on the internet, and Amazon lead me to these Rayovac Hybrid batteries.

They hold a charge well, I've been using them in my Canon Speedlite.

I probably have about a dozen charge cycles in them now. Over the weekend I had the first set of batteries in the charger... imagine my surprise to find them leaking!

I will be keeping a close eye on the second set which have been on the card up until now. I would not want to run expensive camera equipment with faulty batteries!

I suggest keeping a close eye on these if you decide to purchase them.

These destroyed 1 very expensive electronic device (complete with smoke) and caused a cheap maglite to burn out almost instantly. I have no idea what's going on with these, but they seem to be dangerous. STAY AWAY!

EDIT:
I tested them with a multimeter and they're putting out exactly how much voltage I'd expect them to, they weren't charged backwards (showing DC positive), and they were charged with the same charger that charges 16 other NiMH batteries just fine.

I'm willing to accept that it might have been ridiculous coincidence, but I'm now too chicken to try them in anything else.

Bought the charger and extra batteries for my point and shoot camera. First, the batteries fit pretty loosely so you'll have to make sure its stays on. Second, I think the number of shots I took was only 15-25 before my camera wants me to replace the batteries! Shocking for a rechargeable batteries that's hyped as hybrid long lasting for camera. Wish I can return them, but I already tossed out the packaging.

It's an on-going love/hate relationship. I really want to find a rechargeable battery that 1 - takes a charge and 2 - holds a charge. NiCads were not the answer because the capacity was too low, they drained over time and there was that annoying "memory" thing. It looked like NiMH's were a good fix, but I got ticked off that there was never any juice left when I went to use them. For a long time I used re-chargeable alkaline, but if they drained to zero, they were junk; also they stopped making them.

So here comes the Hybrid from Rayovac and I must say that I really like them. They take a charge and they hold it for a long time. Proof? - I have a high end flash for my DSLR. It uses 4 AA batteries. It takes a lot of juices to fire off a flash (FYI - it will illuminate the entire backyard at night and I have a big back yard!). One drawback of the big flash is the re-cycle time. When you shoot, you do not want to wait for the unit to re-charge for the next photo. The answer is to always use fresh, alkaline batteries, but this is expensive and a waste. I was pleased that these Hybrids recycle faster than brand new alkalines (I was surprised at this) AND they can sit in my flash for months and still be ready to go when I need them.

Finally - someone has got it right!

2100 mAh batteries that hold their charge! What more could we want.

I bought 6 double-4-packs of these batteries. I.e., 48 batteries. They all worked great except for one that didn't hold a charge. A 2 percent failure rate is not bad. I charge them with the Duracell CEF23DX2 4-hour recharger. (The faster the recharge, the shorter the battery life. The battery life on a 4-hour charge is almost the same as overnight recharging, and about twice the life as a 15-minute recharge.) The third leg of a battery solution is a battery tester. I use ZTS ZTMMBT9R MINI-MBT9R Mini '9R' Multi-Battery Tester, which tests both NiMH and Alkaline batteries. I bought these batteries for my Nikon SB-900 strobe lights. But they are so handy I am using them for other purposes, too, such as my electric toothbrush. I will be ordering more of these batteries.

I have tried a lot of pre-charged batteries like Eneloops, Duracell, Rayovac Hybrids, & Yuasa Enitime. Compared with Rayovac's Hybrids, the Rayovac 4.0 is very similar in almost every aspects.

I wanted to know how much mAhs it will pack after a discharge; each AA battery averages around 1475 mAhs on discharge. So, that's how much it has out of the box. Charging them, I got an average of 2050mAh. Not bad, not far with the rest of the guys.

The way they are marketing these batteries is a mystery. The package says ready-to-use and rechargeable, but you will not know that unless you look closer where it is written smaller on the side like a fineprint. After you throw away the package, it is even harder to tell on the battery itself as the only indicator that they are rechargeables is the word NiMH. It does not say anywhere rechargeable at all. Not even mAh rating is printed anywhere. Batteries are made in China.

Bought about 8 four packs and so far all are working and had at least some charge. On recharge, I'm getting about 2,000 mAh on average. Sick of the old NIMH batteries that would die on me in less than 25 cycles. In addition to these Rayovacs, I have quite a few Eneloop batteries (made in Japan). Those are fine too (with a nicer wrap) but being just an average user I haven't yet noticed a difference.

Basically, I purchased this set for the batteries not the charger. I found this set at the Costco, with coupon for such a low price, that I now have 3 of these chargers. No matter how good, you just don't need that many chargers. But I can't find batteries at lower cost.

The Eneloop batteries will hold the charge for at least 6 months after the initial charge. What a relief after using regular rechargables! I've been using rechargeable batteries for 10 years; 30 min charge, 1 hour charge, trickle charge only, but the key feature, they all start losing their charge when removed from the recharging unit. I was always waiting for the recharge whenever I needed a fresh set of batteries.

BTW, I don't use the Eneloop charger. I use the LaCross BC 900 smart charger. Smart chargers make a huge difference in battery performance quality. In my experience with simple chargers like the Eneloop chargers, the batteries are not optimally charged or discharged. As a result, the battery seems to "die" well before the number of charge cycles stated on the packaging.

However, the smart chargers will perform a series of deep discharge/charge cycle until the battery is reconditioned. What a difference. Old batteries that held less and less power with every charging cycle suddenly performed like new.

However, I hang onto all those Eneloop chargers because they are very compact and light so they perform well as travel chargers. Remember, if you are caught in a tourist trap, a new set of AA's could cost almost as much as this set. And if I lose the Eneloop charger... well, I have two more...

In addition, my BC 900 smart charger has a tough time detecting a completely drained battery and therefore will not start the charge cycle. Just pop the battery into the Eneloop charger for 5 minutes, then switch it back to the smart charger.

BTW, they give you the plastic sleeves that will convert the AA's into C's or D's. Good idea but I'm still waiting to use them... and I've had these sleeves for a year now.

If you need to buy a new set of batteries you can't go wrong here. In reality, you'd be hard pressed to get a better deal. The eneloops come already charged and ready to go. On top of that, they are rechargeable, and will keep a charge for a much longer time than a typical rechargeable.
This kit comes with 8xAA, 2xAAA, 4x C adapters, 4x D adapters, a Charger. That's a great bundle for the price.
As others have stated the C, and D size items are ADAPTERS, not actual batteries. They work rather well, but they won't last as long as the appropriate sized battery. There have been a few people to report fitting issues, and I can see what they mean. I think it's very minor and not worth down ranking.

I'm a long time user of Eneloop batteries. Over the last three years I would have gone through several dozen AA batteries - at least 60. Instead, I've conserved some cash and the environment by sticking with 8 eneloops.

BENEFITS
=========
Savings - Even in a remote control, where you can get years of use out of a single pair of batteries, eneloops will pay off... eventually. If you buy two power pack kits and some extra AAA batteries, you may never buy another battery! You're also saving the environment...i think.

Versatility - I rarely need C or D batteries, and when I do, it's usually for a gadget that only gets used for a little while. I always keep 4 AA batteries charged for replacements and with the spacers, I also have 4 C and 4 D batteries on hand without needing to keep 8 more batteries charged. I also love how the charger can accept AA and/or AAA (sanyo recommends charging AAA's both on outside or both in middle if charging with AA at same time).

Longevity - They last AT LEAST as long as alkaline batteries in almost any application. In my old digital camera that used AA batteries, I noticed a big increase in battery life. Compared to other rechargeable batteries, these things last forever.

Performance - They are rated fairly high in current at 2000mAh oand 800 mAh for AA and AAA respectively. In cold conditions, when you need to use a flaslight at night camping, the eneloops will work much better than dry cell bateries.

Cons
=======
the only con i can think of is that you may not want or need exactly what the power pack kit contains. Personally, I would have liked at least two more AAA batteries. Then two power pack kits would have me all set. I suppose the batteries can take a while to charge as well...up to 7 hours for four batteries. And of course there is the hassle of rechaging, but that is comparable to the hassle of buying new batteries occasionally.

Overall, I'd recommend this EXTREMELY HIGHLY. I tell everyone I know to stop buying batteries and just buy eneloops. It may seem like a lot to spend on a few batteries, but you could save hundreds in the long run.

The biggest drawback for Nickel Metal Hydride batteries is the shelf life. I got gadgets and toys all around the house, so I constantly charging batteries to have them ready when I need them. There will be very little juice left if you put them in the shelf unused for a couple of months. A waste of time and energy. Hence, one of the biggest advancement in battery technology is the arrival of the new low discharge Nickel Metal Hydride batteries. This is another great step in helping the environment. I have very few left of the old batteries since I started to replace all of them with low discharge batteries. Eneloops and Duracell are 2 of the best of its kind.

-Low discharge.
-Fine quality product. Well constructed
-Conventional size and dimension. I had other batteries that I have to use a screwdriver to remove from my camera because it is fatter than other "AAA's".
-Can be charged on your existing NiMh charger.
-Sleek and sexy design

These batteries are seriously a replacement to the copper tops. They are being used everywhere in my home and they do last a while. In comparison, I would say that these batteries do outlast the conventional batteries.

I charge up the group and they will sit for about 2 months before I need to use a replacement. So now I'll just keep two or four charged up for an emergency and fully charge up the ones I need on a requirement basis. Best to install them fully charged. Oh, let them sit in your charger for about 2 hours after the charger indicates fully charged or unplug and replug the charger to ensure they're fully charged.

I use Eneloops in many devices and I am very happy with this battery.

My original intention was to use Eneloops for my Canon S5 IS. With regular rechargeables we had instances where the batteries were dead when we needed the camera, now I have two sets - one in the camera and one charged in the camera bag, and I never have any problems with batteries not working.

Then, I expanded the use of Eneloops to other devices - I use four AAA Eneloops in each of two remote controls. Six AAs in Elmo Live. For Christmas - I used eleven AAs to power a Disney Christmas village.

All batteries perform as expected. Great product.

These are good batteries. The ONLY nimh cells that I have that consistently can stay in my Kodak camera and last for weeks. Most others won't even turn the camera on. I used a pair of these in my camera for a trip and I never had to switch batteries and we took at least 50 pictures.

I have used these batteries for the last 18 months with no measurable degradation. They really hold their charge. You must use a quality charger that monitors their charge voltage and temperature and you will be pleased with the results. If you use a cheap charger that does not monitor the batteries and shut down when they are charged you will destroy the batteries after just a few charges.

These are the new breed of Nickel Metal Hydride batteries. Now you can use them for your TV remotes, clocks, etc. where you need longer shelf lives. One of the reasons why NiMh batteries have become so popular was the proliferation of digital cameras. But for those casual shooters, who sometimes leave there batteries in the cameras and 3 months after pick it up for another special occasion; they often found it as a surprise that their batteries are depleted. Well, with these new batteries, it is no longer the case.

Pros:
+ Low discharge. Ordinary NiMh batteries discharges even just sitting on the shelf.
+ Works with your existing NiMh battery chargers.
+ Conventional size and dimension. I had other batteries that I have to use a screwdriver to remove from my camera because it is bulkier than other "AAA's".
+ Cheapest price as compared to other named brands (Eneloops, Duracell)

Cons:
- More expensive than ordinary NiMh

I have worked with batteries all my life and these are the worst. After a full charge, 900 mA rate, in a "Wizard One" charger, I set aside 16 powerex cells for 10 days. Then I recharged them in the same charger at the same 900 mA rate, to see how much charge would be required to bring them back to full charge. The best one took 162 milliampere hours of charge, not bad. The worst one took 882 milliampere hours, awful. Remaining cells were: 163,346,384,401,430,473,476,489,578,654,668,669,672,806. This leakage throws a battery pack out of balance in a day, due to the wide range of leakage rates.

Now let's look at two types of precharged cells:

Duracells with a 2000 MAH rating, only required 76 to 95 milliampere hours to fully charge after 31 days on the shelf. The other two sample cells came in at 85 and 86 milliampere hours. After 31 days the Powerex are quite dead.

Rayovac's Hybrid is higher in leakage, but still very nice. After 31 days they required a recharge of 178 to 192 milliampere hours. Note that in the precharged cells there is not much variation in leakage.

I would avoid any cell that is not precharged. A bad precharged cell will be "dead on arrival" given shipping time, thus giving itself away at once. Although they have a lower capacity, they always give a longer run time in my flashlights, DVD player and run clocks for as long a seven months.

I have been using 28 hybrid cells for a variety of things and have no complaints after several months.

Based on technical reviews I read years ago that showed Powerex superior to most other brands I have used them for years. However, over time I noticed a lot of duds with new purchases. I guess quality control is not up to par.

I grabbed a pack of these to power my WiiMotes, and they have not left me wanting. They have been in my controllers since I received them, making today one month of use since they finished their initial charge. I have beat three RPGs as well as having played countless hours. I would approximate these things have seen 50+ hours of use so far and they are still not even close to dead. Short of industrial grade lithium I have never seen a battery last half this long.

I had an LD 20 and thought it was amazing,so I wanted even more power with AA batteries. With this TK40 I can scan my entire yard more so than the LD 20. I like to be able to light up my entire yard in summer looking for Armadillo,which destroy it if not taken care of. I have a fairly large yard front and back,but this light works great lighting up from one end to the other. The LD 20 does an amazing job,but the TK 40 throws a larger circle and brighter for these old eyes of mine.
Very bright and solid built light.

After deciding to buy this fenix tk40, I looked around to find the best price, I found a seller on ebay selling a brand new one for $124 so I ordered it on ebay. I usually buy items on amazon since they almost always have the best price unless I find a cheaper price on ebay. I received my light 1 business day after I paid with paypal, talk about fast shipping!

Anyways I opened the box up, placed 8 AA duracell batteries in it, turned it on it took a few min for me to understand how to work the functions, so I cheated and read the instructions. Now i know how to use the lights functions, and I am extremely impressed! This light is SO BRIGHT in turbo mode it can damage ones eyes! So becareful! It says on instructions: " WARNING: The TK40 is a high-brightness lighting device and capable of causing eye damage, please avoid shining the light directly into the eyes."

This being said, this flashlight is overkill because it is so powerful in turbo/high mode, do I really need this light? Maybe.. but probably not. I just like to spoil myself, Do i really need my guns? probably not but you never know if you are going to need it so it is good to have around, I just bought them because they are valuable just like this flashlight has great value. Yes it is a bit pricey, but if you can afford it, it is well worth the buy for its value. It has 4 primary modes, turbo, low, medium, and high. Then it has another 4 secondary strobe modes which adds a total 8 modes in one flashlight! The 4 Strobe modes are: Strobe, slow flash, SOS, and fast flash.

Being a brand name quality price kinda guy who is picky with where products are made and what brands they are. Fenix is an exception, it is high quality, I am a maglite fan because I like the good quality of maglites, they are well built lights and are affordable, but this fenix flashlight is probably 3 times higher quality than the maglites. I love Maglites, I own 3 of them all led's, but I wanted this fenix tk40 because it is brighter than my maglites! secondly it is pretty light for its size! lighter than some of my maglites, thirdly, it is WATERPROOF! IPX8!, fourthly it has a very clean nice, yet extremely tough finish which reminds me of the durable finish of glock handguns. Fifthly, it has 8 modes of functions. Sixthly it uses AA type batteries which are affordable and easy to get, I prefer using duracell, and energizer. Do not use cheap batteries in this flashlight.
This flashlight is a bit overkill in my opinion because it is too good, and it is too bright in mode turbo/high. but that is a good thing. It is like buying a ferrari, ferrari's are high performance and very expensive cars, do i need one? not really, but i want one =). If you like nice things, high performance things, then buy this flashlight. If you just need a light to check your tires at night or for looking under your engine hood, then a maglight led is good enough. Personally I like to have the best, because sometimes it comes in handy.

It says " High intensity flashlight powered by AA batterry specially designed for exploration." So this is the perfect flashlight for survival in the great wilderness.

There already are plenty of reviews online about the light, its accessories, and its durability. I will describe my experience with Fenix's customer service when the light malfunctioned.

This flashlight has Cree MC-E Quad Super LED. All four LEDs in the assembly are supposed to light up together, whether at low power or in turbo mode. My first copy purchased from Amazon worked great for about a month or two and then one of the LEDs went semi-dead. Looking carefully, I could see that one of the four LEDs would light up only in turbo mode, and even then it flickered -- with eight fully charged Eneloop batteries. Amazon sent me a replacement that worked fine.

Before the light was replaced, I reported my problem to Amazon and they pointed me to Fenix's customer service. Fenix replied that warranties are only honored if the item was purchased directly from their website. Since my light was purchased from Amazon, Fenix declined to help me directly. Finally, I brought up this issue with Amazon, and after verification with Fenix, they sent me a replacement.

Otherwise, TK-40's performance is superlative. On a fishing trip it outshone the boat's searchlight; it is bright enough to get you in trouble on road or off road (your neighbors will fear it). I announce my arrival with the strobe mode. When the zombie apocalypse decends upon us you must remember to have at least three of these and Brunton's Solaris.

One word about the "630 Lumens" figure. There is some dispute over whether Fenix reports emitter brightness or out-of-the-front brightness, I suspect it is the latter.

Build-wise, all Fenix products have hard anodized finish, are waterproof and shockproof etc. but Fenix's goal is always "brightness". In contrast, its American competitors such as Inova and Surefire, focus on build first and performance later. I have NDI and LD20 Premium Q5 along with the TK-40, all three of which show some wear and tear on the anodized finish. Expect the same with your copy.

My recommendation is, buy this flashlight, it will not disappoint until something goes wrong.

I purchased this light to use as an alignment tool in a cement kiln. I needed something that would project a beam through the center of a coal burner to the other end of the kiln 220' away. I could not get the TK40 in time, so I went to a local store and bought a Streamlight Super Tac (at about half the price) before I got the TK40. The streamlight is rated for 135 lumens vs. 630 in the TK40. I don't dispute the accuracy of either light's rating, but what I found was that at any distance, the Super Tac was just as bright, but covered an area about 1/4 the size of the TK40. For my needs, there was no benefit of the more expensive TK40 flashlight (both worked great, by the way). I can definetely see the advantage of the larger "throw" for normal flashlight use outdoors and would certainly recommend this flashlight for that use. I also like the multiple levels to save battery when you don't need as much light. The Super Tac is either on or off. I don't understand concerns with the user interface... press and hold to go to the next brightness level, double click to turn on strobe. Just push like any other flashlight to turn on and off if you don't want to change levels. Pretty simple.

I gave this light 3 stars for two reasons: 1. I expected the light to have a more intense beam rather than the same intensity over a larger area. 2. It is to bulky and heavy to carry on a regular basis, especially compared to the streamlight.

Advantages:
1. Very bright with large throw area
2. Multiple intensity setting extends battery life
3. Easy user interface
4. AA batteries, which you can get anywhere, anytime

Disadvantages:
1. Bulky and Heavy
2. No holster
3. Have to unscrew the bottom A LOT to prevent parasitic battery drain
4. Light is not more intense than less expensive flashlights, just covers more area at same intensity
