I love that Sade and her band are back with this beautiful offering. These are all gems. Sade's voice is as great as ever. All tracks are really mesmerizing and at this moment i love the pensive "The Moon And The Sky" , the neo-bluesy "Be That Easy" and the reggae-lite "Babyfather". All other songs are superb as well, they are all killers no fillers here, but at this moment, these are the ones that i hum all day and night. A must for Sade fans old and new, and dare i say, one of the best albums contender for this decade!!!

The CD Soldier of Love is extraordinary and exemplifies Sade's work as an artist. She gets a thumb up for this album. Her vocals as always are as smooth and soaring as a bird of nature soars the skies. I only had one problem and that was the delivery of the CD. Even though you all had a delivery window date, it was just too long from the time you all said it had been shipped until the time that I received it was like a month. Just too long. I would think you all are going to use this info for quality assurance purposes, therefore I would order from you all again provided this problem is taken care of. Thanks, Violet Elaine Mitchell.

For those accustomed to today's pristine, programmed perfection that passes for an artistic statement, this recording of formerly unreleased material will first sound unpolished, a little sloppy, and sonically inconsistent. But among the cracks, any listener can hear the genius of raw creativity. Hendrix didn't just play his guitar. He pawed, bent, and rattled it, alternating funky rhythm with screaming lead and squawked wah-wah work. He set a number of new directions for the guitar that grew into genres, from Prince's funk-rock to Van Halen's bluster to the heavy-metal subculture. But also look beyond the guitar. Behind Hendrix' six-string tricks, drummer Mitch Mitchell threw out more jazz than rock, not so much keeping the beat as dancing around it, skittering and syncopating cymbal washes and paradiddles over Noel Redding's elemental bass. Such interplay was nearly always there. Even the reprises of "Stone Free," "Red House," "Fire," and the scorching cover of "Sunshine of Your Love" offer new views of the man who turned an upside-down Fender guitar into a multi-generational statement. Valleys... may be overshadowed by such peaks as Are You Experienced? or Electric Ladyland, but it's still fertile ground for exploration.

This record rocks!! Well recorded. Never heard Hendrix recordings that we're this crystal clear. "Stone Free" and "Valleys Of Neptune" are as good or better than anything anybody has put out since. Don't play in rush hour traffic though, as it causes me at least to be super aggressive driving. You'll make good time though. Might have to buy the other remastered ones too if they sound this much better. The 45 of "Valleys Of Neptune" has a non-lp/cd song on the flip side sung by Noel Redding I think. Costs about $7 though but limited edition.

5stars - "CRANK IT UP!" (T. GROMEK)

Nothing recorded today compares to the musical genius of Jimi Hendrix. That's why this will probably be the best blues/rock album of the year.
I think that this album shows some artistic direction that is not present on any other Hendrix album. Jimi plays around with little riffs and rhythms that I haven't heard before on any of his other studio recordings (listen closely fans). Mitch Mitchell is at his absolute best. The recording/production quality is some of the best I've heard from this era. As a super-fan of Jimi, I'm thrilled that this high quality stuff was still in the vault.

As a huge Jimi Hendrix Experience fan, this is a very painful review to write.

I confess that I just didn't get what Jimi was trying to do following the demise of the Experience. That's why my often played collection ended at Electric Ladyland (not allowing for occasional dabbles beyond that, eg: Blues etc.) So the temptation to grab some more Experience era Hendrix was too great to ignor.

Perhaps I should have known better, but when it comes to great music I'm a sucker.

In giving a personal rating to the tracks, I find only 1 with 5 stars - "Bleeding Heart". As to the remainder (and this obviously boils down very much to personal taste), the fresh takes are either way too fast, way to slow, or w-a-a-y-y too indulgent. "Fire" falls into the first category, "Red House" - a personal favourite - falls squarely into the second category, and "Sunshine of Your Love" ranks as seriously self-indulgent.

Jimi was without doubt a visionary, a creative genius, and a pioneering guitarist extraordinaire. After all, he did inspire the greatest blues guitarist of the last 50 years - SRV!! I'm leaning to the view that post 1969 his creativity, form and direction began to fall away for whatever reason or reasons.

There'll be plenty of fans who'll gratefully lap up whatever is drip fed from the vaults. I fear that what this release reveals in no uncertain terms is that Jimi's best stuff is already out there for us to enjoy (and I do bloody well enjoy it!!) If this is an indication of the treasure that remains in the vault, it's not worth the cost of the shovel to dig it up.

So as painful as this is, please do yourselves a favour and stick to the brilliant first 3 albums. It is not, to my mind, a fitting memorial to a great musical genius.

Sorry Hendrix fans.

This is absolute rubbish. If I didn't know it was Hendrix, I would have thought it was three guys jamming in their garage wishing they were the Experience. The playing and singing sound like they were heavily influenced by Quaaludes and alcohol. To those who rate this highly, be honest with yourselves. You know this sucks. I feel disappointed, but mostly sad, that the Hendrix family would tarnish his legacy in this way.

If you want to hear the greatest album ever, look no further than Need You Now. For the first time in my life I have found a record that not only is beautiful but speaks to the rare condition I face everyday.

You see,I am a hunter and lately I have been experiencing discomfort in my elbow. I attributed the pain to repetitive use from using my bow, but the doctors at Holy Christ just diagnosed me with a rare disease which I contracted from cave diving a few years ago. Unfortunetly I was stung in the arm by a grimlock and now will soon pass into the shadow world where I will become one with the underdark society. Soon I will be scouring the nether-regions, blinded, and waiting for the day when this affliction will finally end.

For now I will enjoy Lady Antebellum and dream of world where the grimlock do not exist.

5stars - "American VI Ain't No Grave" (Tina Sanford)

Johnny Cash spent his whole life on record facing death like no other major artist I'm aware of.

It runs through his whole career and we can all learn something from him. That to me is the purpose of art.

The artist can be gorgeous, sing beautiful and play beautiful but if he or she has nothing to say what the hell good is it?

Rubin always did a good job with Cash, this is no exception.

My wife and I saw Cash at the State Fair in downtown Tampa in Feb. 1968. He came out dressed like someone from Lincoln's time.

Hell of a show. I keep going back to Cash's music. Like Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzell, Roger Miller and others we will never see their kind

again. Enjoy this.

Johnny Cash is a lot like Willie. You either hate his singing or you love it. The jury has always been split in our house. My wife hates him. I love him. I've been listening to Johnny Cash for over fifty years. I think I was hooked from the opening notes of "Ballad of a Teenage Queen," when I was only twelve or thirteen years old. Johnny went through a lot of transformations in the years between then and now, but the voice was always instantly recognizable. And now he's gone to that place none of can be honestly sure about. Maybe that's why one of my favorite songs from this album is "I Can't Help but Wonder Where I'm Bound." That's if I actually have a favorite. Because the mood of this last CD, recorded in the last months of Cash's life, remains unrelentingly somber. My assessment here may be colored by my continuing sadness, knowing that Johnny is really gone, and knowing that he was very much aware of his own imminent death when he recorded these songs. His beloved life partner, June Carter Cash was already gone. So maybe Johnny was ready. The melancholy is evident in every song here, in any case. The voice is a bit weaker, but the sentiments expressed were firm and true. Listening to Johnny sing "For the Good Times" nearly brings me to tears each time I listen. And I have listened dozens of times already. I can't seem to take this album off the player. Every simple and spare arrangement by Rick Rubin and company is letter-perfect. And the songs seem to get a little better every time I play it. Yes, there is much here to meditate on - death and loss, grief that won't end. But every time I listen, I want to paraphrase that line from To Kill a Mockingbird. "Stand up, child. Johnny Cash is singing." - Tim Bazzett, author of SOLDIER BOY: AT PLAY IN THE ASA

This is an excellent CD and I can't be more pleased with the entire selection of songs. Johnny has left a legacy and given us another great album that I'm certain to enjoy for years to come. Johnny has given us his witness and has stored his reward in heaven and is nowing reaping what he has sown. The Lord has given Johnny all his talents and Johnny did not bury them, but has deposited them while earning great interest. I trust that Johnny Cash is happy now more than ever for the road he has chosen. He has blessed us, too. The voice is a little cracked and old, but like fine wine it is better with age as he tugs our hearts more than our ears with this excellent selection of songs. Who says you can't take it with you... or maybe send it ahead?

I am not a country music fan by any means, but this is just an all around great listen. I borrowed by daughters copy to play at work. Then I purchased one for myself and my son for his birthday. Buy it!

4stars - "We are future pixels in factories far away." (Jason Stein)

Gorillaz is and has been an interesting concept since it's inception nearly 10 years ago. The idea of a creating a "concept band" as it were, taking the idea of a conceptual album to the next level, was always something I found intriguing. Nevertheless, at the end of the day, the only thing that really matters here is the music, and sadly this album leaves a ton of room for improvement and much to be desired.

If you're a die hard Gorillaz fan, then nothing I write here will sway your opinion one way or the other, which is fine. This review isn't for you folks. I myself am not what you'd consider a die-hard fan, but I did enjoy their previous album "Demon Days" and figured this would be worth a listen. I purchased "Plastic Beach" maybe a day after it was released, and have listened to it several times from start to finish over the past week. I've given it time to percolate, as many fan-boys will dismay any negative view towards the Gorillaz as a lack of "effort" to appreciate the music. The art direction is what convinced me to make the purchase, and it's cool. The video for the single "Stylo" oozes personality, and the small preview clips showcasing the plastic beach all scream top-notch production values. It's the music that disappoints, which is a shame because after all, this isn't a video game or movie.

"Plastic Beach" is a prime example of why I stopped buying albums several years ago. In fact, this was the first CD I purchased in over 4 years. Now don't get me wrong, there ARE a few really good songs to be found here, but the majority of it is just filler. It's seems as though "Plastic Beach" was completely carried by the success of the Gorillaz first two albums. There's little coherency throughout entire CD. I've created mix tapes with more coherency than "Plastic Beach." The guest appearances were very disappointing, and most made little sense in terms of choice. Track 3 is a great example, titled "White Flag". It's starts out great, with an oriental-themed orchestral piece. About 30 seconds in, it's ruined by horrible lyrics and poor delivery by a couple of rappers whom I've never heard of before (nor want to hear again). Most of the time, the music in "Plastic Beach" drags and you're left wondering when things will pick up and become interesting. They rarely do. Minus several tracks, the album is a snore.

For those of you on the fence about making the purchase, preview all the tracks first (I'd suggest YouTube so you can listen to the entire track rather than just a 10-30 second preview). You're better off downloading individual songs that you prefer rather than dropping the whole $12 bucks for an average/below-average over-hyped offering such as "Plastic Beach."

5stars - "Wonderful Effort from Gorillaz!" (Rafael Vera)

Perhaps it is Albarn and company's having set the bar so high that caused this record to land with such a resounding thud in my cd player. The first Gorillaz disc was an astonishing amalgamation of styles that recalled the Clash's genre-bending "Sandinista". "Demon Days" was a less playful, but more fully realized concept album that showed remarkable artistic growth. Both discs are marked by inspired musical risk-taking that is absent from "Plastic Beach." There is too much talent here not to produce some good music as other reviewers have pointed out. What made the other albums so rewarding, however, was they always could surprise you with their twists and turns- the way the ethereal "Don't Get Lost In Heaven" morphed into the gospel reggae of "Demon Days" or the Spanish vocals that anchored "Latin Simone" for instance. On "Plastic Beach" one mid-tempo, retro-synth laden tune follows another. The lyrical conceit seems half-formed and, unlike the previous disc, the "guests" seem to distract from it more than propel it along. I will still enjoy tracks like "White Flag" and "Stylo," but this disc is a distant third in the Gorillaz catalog. Hopefully, it only marks a momentary lack of focus and not the demise of one of the most rewarding musical projects of the last decade.

3stars - "A disappointing effort this time around" (Chainbark)

The latest offering of Gorillaz music is upon us. Damon Alburn is quite a character, with well; all his characters! Although I have not bought the complete album, I have heard some tracks. The one and only track I own if the Lou Reed guest track. I am not sure if Lou phones his vocal via New York to London or if he is in on the sessions, but it doesn't matter. His mechnical, monotone is so persuasive and melodic, it really frames the beat and keyboard lines. I listen to it over and over and the track leaves me stuttering.
In an album brimming with collabs, this pairing looks good on paper and in song. (check the Mick Jones/ Paul Simeonon collab) Damon must be spinning around London in a great mood, waiting to take his 3D band out on tour across the world. Let's see if Snoop will join him on stage in LA.

5stars - "MP3 version is 2 DOLLARS MORE than the CD??" (Jackson B.)

Broken Bells is an interesting mix: the Shins' lead James Mercer, beat master Danger Mouse (who produced Gorillaz' amazing album "Demon Days") and both of them aiming squarely at a pop-music style. The end result works well, and it is not only a testament to the dual talents, you'd swear that an experienced hit-maker must be ghost-writing some of this stuff behind the scenes. Mercer's voice runs rampant along the stylistic ladder, at times singing like The Killers, at other times sounding like Moby, or even pulling off a Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz) wail, as on "The Ghost Inside". Meanwhile, Danger Mouse swaps roles deftly, ramping up a back beat ("The High Road") or switching to a soaring Beatles-esque string arrangement ("Sailing to Nowhere"), and all of it catchy.

Unfortunately, the effort never really rises above "good" to "great": catchy hooks never really get stuck in your head, and a lot of the spacy atmospheric tones ("Your Head is on Fire") didn't leave me rushing for the replay button so much as deciding this is "have to be in the mood for it" music. Broken Bells makes for a pleasant diversion but probably won't be in heavy rotation in your player unless you're already a James Mercer/Danger Mouse fan.

I heard all the buzz about this album and had to check it out for myself. I must say that I am not impressed and think it's highly overrated. There *are* a few standout tracks:
"The High Road"
"Trap Doors"
"Vaporize"
but the rest of the album, in my opinion, falls short. Some of the other songs are bearable-some are not ("Citizen"-for example). My advice is to get only the tracks that sound good to you. If you get the entire album because you heard and liked "The High Road" (like I did) I think you will be disappointed.

Upon first hearing this album I was a little let down to say the least. I'm a huge Shins/James Mercer fan, so you can imagine. But I know better than to give up so easily. Something told me to listen again, and again and again until it came together.

Slowly the brilliance and complexity of this album is gradually opening up to me. All good things require a great effort, even something as passive as listening to music; especially listening to music. I'm glad I've taken the time. If there is a 1 star rating on this site I can assure you it's only because someone hasn't given this wonderful album their full attention.

This may be one of the safest albums that's come out in 2010. The song titles are more risky than any of the music on this thing. It also doesn't help considering the people behind it and their bodies of work; there's obviously Danger Mouse's work, and also the latest Shins album, Wincing the Night Away, which is quite risky and experimental(well, risky and experimental for The Shins' standards). The duo seem afraid to try anything to spice up the music. I'm not saying an album with James Mercer as a primary songwriter needs to be sprawling and abrasive, but you can only be so pleasant until you get boring. With this album, that happens about a minute into The High Road, and it never gets up throughout the whole album. It doesn't demand your attention in any way, it barely even asks kindly for your attention. With that, this thing isn't terrible, but I'd be lying if I didn't say it's not blank as a piece of paper. Like a plain salad with no dressing.

The music, for the most part, is like the album cover. An enclosed, safe world with a window opening that allows you to peek inside. If only there was actually something going on in that world.

I absolutely love Susan Boyles' voice. It just chokes me up and gives me chills it's so beautiful. I also bought my friend this cd for Christmas. She loves her too. All the songs on this cd are beautiful to hear. You won't be sorry you bought this one!!

The CD was a little disappointing in that the song selections did not have much depth (Ex: How Great Thou Art is just the chorus over and over). She has a lovely voice that could have been much better showcased. Maybe the next one will be better.

This CD is fabulous! Susan Boyle's voice is outstanding. Some of the songs just transcend anything I've heard recently. I will buy any other CD she might record, HANDS DOWN, anytime! Great "listening" music and very inspirational. I wasn't disappointed a bit, just wished there was more on the CD. Can't say enough times, her voice is fabulous!

As a long-time fan of Peter Gabriel since the 1970s, one of the characteristics that I've liked about him is his different take on music, realized in his ability to be unique and experimental within the pop music format. I also appreciate his sense of "concept". In both ways he has broadened the palate of rock/pop, helping to create some new variants, and brought new sensibilities to pop hits.

First off, the concept is great and full of potential: eclectic choice of covers, orchestra, no guitars or drums. But the realization of this concept fails here. This is a deeply flawed album. It is all a variant of PG being mournful and navel-gazing. With a few notable exceptions (e.g. the strings in Heroes) PG falls into the trap of many pop music people, that orchestral means slow and mournful; everything is a downer. That's OK interspersed throughout a CD, but it's really tiring after a whole album. He's certainly capable of unique instrumentation for a variation other than mournful/sparse/sadness (witness Moribund the Bourgemeister), but we don't hear that here. This sounds like a record from someone who badly needed a producer who could override his worse instincts.

Having said this, I hope he doesn't drop the "limitations" concept, but tries again, keeping in mind that what made his career take off in the 70s and 80s was his ability to create variety and uniqueness, not lots of the same.

I am a long-time PG fan and couldn't wait to get my hands on this new album! I can't tell you how disappointed I am. It is a self-indulgent, unlistenable, boring piece of work. It sounds like an art student project, and that's not a compliment.
