This is my first Bocelli CD and I was very pleased. The traditional Christmas songs were familiar and yet Andrea put his own interpretation on many of them. This one will be a favorite for many Christmases to come.

This one is a must for Chris Botti fans. It is the DVD that really makes it well worth the purchase. The guest artist's collaborating with Chris are all the best of the best, and it is a treat to hear them together. A one of kind musical experience.

I have been a Chris Botti fan since 2002 when I first heard his music being played at a resturant in Dayton, Ohio. It was a memorable experience to have him playing in the background while having dinner with a close friend. From that moment, I have been a Chris Botti lover! I had the good fortune to attend his concert (Nov 2009) in Indianapolis. It was a magical evening, one that I'll never forget! I purchased his Boston Concert DVD and have loved listening to and viewing every minute of it. No one makes the sound of a trumpet more romantic than Chris Botti!

"At Home With Friends" is Joshua Bell's latest gift to his fans, and what a gift it is! I have always loved listening to his lovely-sounding Stradivarius especially late at night throughout "the wee small hours of the morning when the whole wide world is fast asleep" (to borrow a line from a famous song) and I am probably the only soul who is wide-awake.

A multi-Grammy-award-winner, Joshua Bell has been consistent in bringing beautiful music to his fans. Seeing him performed live at the Hollywood Bowl a few years ago was one of the best things that ever happened to my musical adventure. It cemented my deep appreciation for his exquisite violin artistry. All his recordings are remarkable and well-produced, but what made this album especially wonderful is the presence of his musical friends whom he invited to perform with him, to mention a few: Chris Botti, Sting, Josh Groban, Dave Grusin, Lee Musiker, Kristin Chenoweth, among many others. And not to mention an eclectic repertoire that includes classical, standards, soft rock, Spanish, Italian and Brazilian music.

One of the plus-factors to consider is Chris Botti playing on one of the best performances, a Gil Goldstein arrangement of a Gershwin tune, "I Loves You Porgy." Well, what can I say? He plays superbly and like no other because his technique is one-of-a-kind. It is so blissful listening to a charming musical conversation between two fine musicians with awesome help from Billy Childs on piano, Romero Lubambo on guitar, Scott Colley on bass, Shawn Pelton on drums, and a few other musicians playing flute, clarinet, cello and French horn.

What impressed me the most is a captivating reading of the Fab Four's "Eleonor Rigby" by Frankie Moreno, whom I had not heard of until this album. His voice is remarkable and his piano playing complemented Joshua Bell's exceptional technique in violin.

Another noteworthy track is "Manhattan" played in a relaxed and smooth rendition by the classical crossover artist accompanied only by pianist Marvin Hamlisch, who also wrote the top-notch arrangement. One of Antonio Carlos Jobim's Brazilian staples made it to the program and it is one of the best tunes, "Chovendo Na Roseira." It features another fine jazz pianist, Dave Grusin.

Josh Groban, whom I have also seen with Joshua Bell in a live concert, delivers a striking interpretation of "Cinema Paradiso" while Kristin Chenoweth treats "My Funny Valentine" in a dramatic fashion - just what Rodgers and Hart would have expected it to be sung. "Para Ti" is the most effervescent of all the tracks - bouncy, spirited and truly a delight.

Many thanks to Joshua Bell and his friends for a completely charming album. It's definitely a keeper!

This CD is just amazing. It brings me to tears with his simple beauty and love of the violin. I grew up with a grandpa that played viola in the Seattle Symphany who played the organ, and piano as well. Listening to Joshua Bell perform with his friends is a treat for the ears. Cinema Padadiso with Josh Groban singing is beyond words.
I love the sound of the violin and as I close my eyes I am put at peace. I will be buying other CDs by this wonderful musician and giving some as gifts as well!

**** 1/2 Compared to my CD of the solid, direct Beaux Arts Trio, and remembrances of the scholarly but energetic Stern-Istomin-Rose group, this new album of classical superstars perform the Mendelssohn works with emphasis on grace and joy. The sweet and lyrical Op. 49, comes off smoothly but without inner depth; the more serious, classical Op. 66 offers thought and emotional gravitas. Perlman and Ma were mentored by Stern and both play with lightness and fluidity. There is no roughness or edginess to their sound; thus, their approach is fitting for the early romantic Mendelssohn. Do not expect a wide range of temperments; these compositions are andante and allegro. I wonder if this senior trio will go on to other issues of, for example, the Schubert, Schumann, and Dvorak trios. Or perhaps they will venture to contempory trios. I am pleased with this particular recording and recommend these light, popular pieces for those whose interest in chamber work is still developing.

This is a very elegant album. It is classical chamber music that doesn't disappoint the deepest part of your heart or brain. Honestly I am not familiar with Ax or Perlman, but Yo Yo Ma is a favorite of mine. I do favor a more contemporary flare, but this music stands on its own. The pieces flow easily from one to another and there are no deep shifts from one piece to another. I love the three instruments together. These three dance together and flirt in a wonderful singsong CD. This cd is full of just beautiful music! This comes highly recommended to the classical fan.

This album to commemorate Mendelssohn's bicentennial has shown up a little past 2009, but it's a welcome return to chamber music by three stars in the classical world. Of the major labels, Sony BMG seems to have given up on chamber music almost completely. Thank goodness we have an archive of recordings from the era when Yo-Yo Ma and Isaac Stern, often in the company of Emanuel Ax, produced an outpouring of Brahms CDs that remain the best modern renditions. Perlman has made fewer appearances in chamber music since his early days but is, of course, accomplished in his own right.

Here they compete with the ghost of Stern, whose all but definitive account of the two Mendelssohn Piano Trios with partners Leonard Rose and Eugene Istomin derives from an even earlier era of recordings. As befits their gray hair, these new recordings are seasoned and relaxed. The whirlwind Scherzo in Trio no. 1 won't stir up any dust; the opening Molto allergro e agitato is far from being either very fast or agitated. Is it right to turn the finale, marked "very fast" and "passionate," into something more civilized? The same experienced, suave restraint hovers over Trio no. 2 as well. Comparisons with Istomin-Stern-Rose or the trio led by Julia Fischer, not to mention the ultra energized Martha Argerich and Friends, reveal how this music sounds when played with more vitality. On the other hand, there's no denying that the playing here bespeaks Cadillac musicianship, even if it rarely gets out of first gear

I'm not so much a fan of that kind of music and I'm more rock oriented. I bought initially this DVD for my parents in law who are both Italian and Bocelli/Pavarotti fans, but this DVD just became overnight the very best item of my whole DVD collection, not to speak about the impact on my parents in law who still can't believe it. If I could have put 6 stars here, I would have done so. Everything is just perfect in this record: sound, image, performance, musical skills of every single musician and especially Sarah Brightman whom I didn't know before. I'll closely watch her career from now on and I'm just praying these two wonder voices will again join together one of these days.

I tried to find the DVD Vivere: Live in Tuscany, with Andrea Bocelli, but 3 bookstores didn't carry it, so I was thrilled to purchase it on Amazon. My boyfriend and I watched it together and thoroughly enjoyed it. The songs were gorgeous, the setting was phenomenal, and the different entertainers in addition to Bocelli were top-notch. I'd highly recommend it! Well worth your time and money.

Today, December 25 2009, we were at a Christmas party at a friend's house. We watched and truly enjoyed the talented Andrea Bocelli. Having watched it on this day, it has made this Christmas a memorable day. To those who have not seen it, this is highly recommended and it is worth the money spent. Now that I checked it on Amazon.com, I feel disappointed that I have to buy the CD separate from the Blu-ray. It is offered on a DVD/CD combo but quite hesistant since I have an awesome bluray theater system. But no matter how I decide, this is worth so many evenings when we are relaxing in our home theater room.
