Just purchased the CD today and absolutely love it. Not so sure about the "Jingle Bells" , but The Lord's Prayer is BREATHTAKING and brought me to tears. Andrea is I believe the most gifted tenor of today and I look forward to hearing more from him and seeing him again in concert. Bravo Andrea!

Bull-fighting is ugly and cruel, and showcases mankind's stupidity and barbaric adherence to outdated rituals. Boo on Bocelli for supporting animal cruelty by putting this on his DVD. :-(

This is an extremly wonderful CD. I think one of Bocelli's best. The only caution I would give someone, is I bought a used copy that was supposed to be in very good condition and to say the least it was not. If you are going to buy this CD which is just so beautiful every song, then buy the new copy directly from amazon it's most assuradly worth the price because you truly are getting a wonderful CD.

Wish I could have given it 10 stars! If you love Italian opera, don't miss this one. I fell in love with Con Te Partiro the first time I heard it, blasting from a passing convertible in Brooklyn, NY back in 1998. Didn't know the artist at the time, but ran to the record store and hummed the tune that was replaying over & over in my mind. I was introduced to Bocelli that day on the Romanza CD and have loved him ever since.
As a long time Pavarotti fan, the thought of someone else trying to sing Nessun Dorma made me shudder, but Bocelli nailed it (Viaggio Italiano CD).
No, I am not your typical Italian opera fan. I am a 57 year old Black woman from Brooklyn, NY that happens to love Italian opera. I cried when we lost Pavarotti, and I thank God for bringing us Bocelli.

When he released 'Con te Partiro' in the U.S. in 1997, Andrea Bocelli became a household name for the soaring emotional piece that has become his best-known song. However, on 2001 album "Cieli di Toscana", the crossover artist treats listeners to 14 songs recorded with the voice that has captured the world.

Unlike many of his previous hit records, "Cieli di Toscana" is a pop album, but unlike Madonna or Britney Spears, it is filled with the soul and delicate emotion you would find in more classical music. The album opens with the rich-sounding 'Melodramma' then chills to a more relaxed feel with 'Mille Lune Mille Onde'. From this point on, the record switches from lavish orchestration to tunes that, if they weren't in Italian, could have been hits on U.S. radio.

As with his previous works, "Cieli di Toscana" shows Bocelli's progression and maturity as an artist. He sings with more confidence and emotion than before, but maintains the vulnerability that has made him so popular. This is perhaps best illustrated with 'L'Incontro', a song about the emotion a father feels upon the birth of his child. Opening with a reading of his poetry by Bono, the song is both tender and emotion-filled, yet very mature.

There are no large aria-like pieces, no 'Con te Partiro' type songs on this record, but that does not detract from the high quality of music featured here. As someone who is not an opera fan, this is the type of music that I enjoy most from Andrea Bocelli, the type of music that makes him that much more special.

Of all the Andrea Bocelli CDs, this ranks as probably the best. It has all his best material and his best performances. Sogno is definitely worth the price.

Bocelli is not thought of as a technical master by all music critics for sure. But he packs emotion into his songs that others often lack. When I've played this for people, I can never predict what they will like most. Just when I think I've identified a song that is weaker than the others on this album, somebody discovers that it is the best.

I was introduced to this work two years ago, and while my interest in music has quite a range, I've found this to be a favorite and, in my opinion, the best selection of Bocelli. I ordered this recently as a gift for my 20 year old daughter, who enjoys mostly more widely popular music of the younger crowd, and she absolutely loves "Sogno". For as many times as I've listened to the album, it never loses it's magic.

I have just purchased this C.D. as it has two additional tracts. I already have the original one. Not sure this version has the two additional tracts as I am a UK purchaser.

The arias that Andrea sings are so beautiful. The two from la Boheme and Tosca are regarded as two of the most beautiful arias for tenors. I love all the arias and they are so soothing when one has had a bad day at work!!

I have all Andrea's C.D.'s and operas and just love all of them but the more I play the opera C.D.'s the more I love them. He has the most beautiful expressive voice which has so much heart and soul put into every word. I would highly recommend this beautiful magical Andrea Arias album to anyone who loves good music.

Let's not try to analyze every phrase, every note, every sustained pitch. Let's just listen to a tenor who sings from the heart. Pavarotti, he is not--but who is? Domingo he is not--but who is? In fact, who else is Bocelli?
As a tenor fanatic, I try to listen to as many tenors as I can--even some for whom I do not care (see my review on Carlo Bergonzi). There is enjoyment in all of them.
Now, one comment specifically on this recording. I have not been enthusiastic about some of Bocelli's other repertoire. But this entry into operatic arias ranks at the top of his list.

4stars - "Of course it's not perfect, but it's beautiful" (tenor fanatic)

I am 45 years old. The reason why this is something I am mentioning, is to let all of you reading my review know what age group I am in. It might be important to the age you are in knowing what I have to say. I have four Andrea Bocelli CD's and they are all wonderful. I love each of them. My mom turned me on to him, and, since I love Josh Groban, I decided to listen to Andrea Bocelli and see what all her fuss over him was about. I'm glad I did. I am half Italian and half Spanish. I don't know either language, but when I listen to both Andrea and Josh, I don't have to. They make the music tell a story, and instantly, you understand something about the words from just the sound of their voices. If you love Josh Groban, then Andrea Bocelli is someone you should give a listen to. His voice is soothing, powerful, and romantic. I am looking forward to getting more of his CD's. Great Stuff!!!

5stars - "Andrea Bocelli - Sogno" (V. Brown)

What I have heard about Andrea Bocelli is bimodal--some think that he is not up to the operatic repertoire and is way overrated; others see him as a fine singer, from a nontraditional background and career path. What I hear on this CD is fine singing, with some limitations. He was once a law school student; he played in piano bars. He took lessons from the great Franco Corelli. Some examples of his work illustrate his skills:

"Questa O quella" is a nice romp. His smooth voice moves through this aria nicely. His voice is not a big one. On the other hand, his musicianship seems fine (thank goodness none of the sobbing and catches that some tenors adopt).

In Puccini's "Che gelida manina" (from "La Boheme"), he again sings smoothly. He has a nice sound to his voice. The high note is a bit thin, but certainly not as bad as some critics would have it. A serviceable version, in short.

Then, the twin arias from "Tosca"--"Recondita armonia" and "E lucevan le stelle." Both are well sung. His version of "Recondita armonia" compares well with other versions. He certainly has no reason to hang his head. When he amps up the volume, his voice is not quite as rich as many other tenors, bit it is still fine. Top notes, as observed before, are a bit thin, but--again--hardly reason for lamentation. This is nicely sung. My notes for "E lucevan le stelle" simply say "Ibid." That is, one could write a very similar set of comments.

The last piece is from a different tradition--a selection from Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor," "Tome degli avi miei." Smoothly sung. A bit thin on higher notes. Overall, though, a nice job.

As I listen to his work, I think that Bocelli does a good job in the standard tenor repertoire. Is he a great tenor? No. Is he a good tenor? Yes.
