I really like the Family Tree Maker 2009. We recently purchased a new computer and printer and had everything from our old Family Tree Maker #8 converted to this new one. It worked perfectly.

I have used Family Tree Maker since the beginning (original company was Banner Blue Software; first version was a DOS program). In my opinion, the Generations Network has ruined a great product. FTM 2008 and 2009 are full of bugs, are very slow running and lack some of the features that were included in FTM v16 (an excellent program). If you can get a copy of FTM v16: get it.

This product is a great helpmate to use with [...].My only advice is to use it when you begin your search for ancestors, rather than after you have all ready been searching on Ancestry, or you will pretty much have to re enter all of your data.It will help sort out all the various amounts of info found, and help to weed out any errors.I give this product an "A".

My wife is an avid genealogist and has been using Family Tree Maker for many years. I purchased this for her to replace FTM 2006 that she has been using for the last 3 years or so since that version would not run properly on our new Windows Vista PC (by the way, this 2009 version runs fine on Vista 64 bit, SP1). We had purposefully skipped the upgrade to FTM 2008 because of all the negative reviews we had read.

My wife has been using FTM 2009 for about 3 weeks now, and she loves it. She tells me that there is nothing she could do in FTM 2006 that she cannot do in FTM 2009. (One caveat here - she uses FTM extensively as a research tool and as, of course, a database, but she does not do much printing / publishing with it). She did say there is some "re-learning" to be done, figuring out where to go in the new interface to get things done, but she found the included printed documentation helpful in that regard. Furthermore, she loves how well integrated the Internet is with the rest of the application; e.g., she really likes the integration of Microsoft Virual Earth under the "Places" tab.

One minor issue we had getting it all set up was the download & install of the Enhanced Image Viewer. While the installation file itself downloaded from Ancestry.com OK, it was not an executable file as downloaded. In order to run it, I had to manually add ".exe" to the end of the file name to make it an executable. Then, every time we tried to run it, we got a generic error message that said the installation had failed & to contact FTM support. Only after rebotting the PC & restarting FTM 2009, would it then install. But, in the end, I did not feel this minor annoyance warranted taking away a "star" from my ranking.

I have been a very strong advocate for Family TreeMaker since the early 1990s but would not recommend or endorse the 2009 version to anyone. I admit that I did not purchase the 2008 version as I had recently purchased the Version 16 and only upgrade approx. every 3 years, but had heard there were problems with it. I was very excited about 2009; however, it loads very, very slowly and when I initially installed and then tried to copy over my database from the Version 16 program, I lost over 200 individuals. This I find totally unacceptable. I especially didn't like the new "look" or the charts - they are not much different than from before. The program is hard to navigate around in, and I couldn't find anywhere to import data from a informational cd. The media section is ok, but I prefer seeing the photos in the scrapbook section for individuals rather than jumbled all together. As for being "user-friendly" ... this program is not! Save your money is my suggestion. I had signed up for the on-line special offered about the program but never was emailed w/ the time and password until after it occurred. I am very happy that I didn't uninstall Version 16 before trying 2009!!

I just upgraded to FTM 2009 from a 1996 version and I am so thankful I did. New capabilities, new tools and much more intuitive. This is really going to help my family tree work. My entire family is excited about searching for their ancestors, their history and FTM 2009 gives us the tools we need and the professional results we want.

This is the most creative upgrade to Family Tree Maker, well, ever. Functionality is greatly improved, graphics, instant "hints", reporting, "uploadability" and much more. The downsides are only a few: 1) freezes more than it should; 2) double dates (1711/1712, etc) not only don't apear automatically, they can't even be inserted manually; 3) takes a bit more self trainning to find everything you're accustomed to using. The optional trainig manual "The Official Guide to Family Tree Maker 2009" is a must. Genealogy Networks has been helpful so far when I've gotten completely stuck on a few issues. Get their phone number and call.....I really don't find the self help guides very 'self-helping'! All in all, it's worth the time and effort if you enjoy keeping one or multiple data bases on file.

My wife and I have used Family Tree Maker for the last 5 years. I am generally one who always wants the latest version of programs -- but I had seen the early questionable reviews of FTM 2008 and stayed away from it. I watched carefully as the reviews toward the end (with the three major improvements) started to turn. I corresponded with Ancestry during the end of testing phase for FTM2009 and decided to take the risk. It was WELL-WORTH the risk and the wait. My wife does not like change and she was ready to stay with FTMv16 until she saw more of what I was doing and how things allow you to see more information clearly. We have not tried all of the features yet and there are a few disappointments (CSV export is not as good), but we are really excited about being able to continue our family research farther and wider back into history. I strongly recommend going for the Platinum version for the extra resources and the "built-in" 6-month subscription to Ancestry. (Hint: Do not activate the subscription until you are ready with everything else -- data updated and names entered).

I've used other cookbook software and this one is by far the easiest and most diverse one I have found. You can import recipes from just about anywhere including ones from your favorite websites within seconds! I've had it for quite sometime and each time I use the program I find some other interesting thing that it is capable of doing.

The most impressive thing though is the quality of the support from the programmer, Lee. He is so quick and thorough in answering questions. Thanks Lee!

I highly recommend this program to anyone who is a fan of cooking.

I've made 2 cookbooks now, and each time I show them, no one can believe that they are my own recipes, and not just printed off the web customizable comment section on the recipe is the only way that someone can tell I didn't just steal the recipe! It's amazing what using this software and printing on good quality paper does - it looks absolutely professional quality. The software is easy to use, easy to install, and you can set it to back up your collection every time you exit the application. I take a recipe I find online or see on TV, I make it, and then record my changes and make it my own. I plan on using this software to create the cookbook I plan on passing onto my kids. I have to say though, not only is this an excellent application created by a small, proud company, the incredible product support (directly from the developer) on their forums and the supportive community dedicated to Living Cookbook is what sets this application apart from all others. It literally is the only software I would pay for.

I'm a long-time user of recipe software to keep my recipes organized on my computer but Living Cookbook excels and exceeds expectations that I ever had:

@ Keeps recipes more organized than any recipe card approach I've ever used (I'm an avid recipe collector so I've created a variety of chapters);

@ Allows easy and quick system for "capturing" recipes and translating them into the Living Cookbook format (as a recipe collector, the days of paper copies of recipes littering my cookbook shelves are over);

@ Allows shopping list creation based on recipe ingredients;

@ Support from Radium Technologies staff (Lee Grainger never sleeps!) and users can answer any technical problem ever likely to arise;

I have not come close to using all of its features(the ingredient database allows even more flexibility than I can even imagine) Anyone using a computer, an OCR and a printer for their recipe collection will not be disappointed!!!

I've used MasterCook for over 5 years now and have developed workarounds to most of its limitations. I wish ValuSoft would invest in an upgrade. My biggest gripe is that I bought a Palm Pilot primarily to export shopping lists to only to discover that MasterCook doesn't support newer versions of the Palm operating system. So I spent over a hundred dollars on a device my twenty dollar software can't talk to. Major bummer. I'm too dependent on my Palm Pilot now for other things so I still have to print shopping lists to carry to the grocery store with me.

I also find the print design module very difficult to use. I suppose I shouldn't expect too much from such inexpensive software but the tools are really clunky.

I keep hoping ValuSoft will come out with an upgrade soon. I'll eventually be forced to move to Vista the next time I buy a computer so I hope there will be a better MasterCook available at that time.

This is the first cookbook program I have tried. I find it easy to enter my own recipes as far as ingredients go. I was surprised that there is no way to enter the degree symbol for temperature when entering that into the text. I struggle to determine how many servings my recipe makes to accurately enter into the program to allow it to determine the nutritional information for the recipe. There are numerous print style options and I am still exploring those. Would I buy this product again, Maybe, I wish it was more advanced.

I consider myself pretty techie but this software is hard to use. I see a recipe I'd like to add to my menu plan and I have to go out of the cookbook and back into the menu plan and add it. I'm not expecting drag and drop (although how cool would that be?) but tedious to build a plan. Then menu plan vs. meal plan and confusing term swaps. It also wants to add ingredients in it's own way--making me tab through to add things the way I want (cheese in ounces vs. slices). Maybe I didn't study it enough but I've just been very challenged in using it so far. I'm sticking with my pencil and paper and xerox copies of recipes I like!

I absolutely love this software. It is very easy to use and gives complete information about each recipe. It has so many features. One of my favorites is the recipe import assistant. It makes getting recipes from emails and web pages so easy -- no typing required!! Plus you can take pictures and add them to each recipe as well as pictures of the step by step preparations. I highly recommend this product. I have used a previous version for years and this new version is even better.

It is not designed for Windows Vista but I am using it on my HP laptop with Windows Vista.

I think this is the first 5 star review I've ever given. I am so impressed with this product, I believe it may be the best piece of software I've ever used.

I started with another program by IMSI that got me through a rough sketch of what I wanted for our new home. Bug after bug and limit after limit got me to give up after a few weeks. This program was highly recommended on Amazon, so I purchased it with moderate hope. Nearly everything was intuitive and easy to do. Most importantly, I have yet to find a bug anywhere. It simply does what I want it to do quickly.

Between the two programs (both similar in layout) it took me about a week to get pretty comfortable to do just about anything I wanted. I do learn applications quickly, but it is by no means a complicated thing to learn. That and the numerous videos make this a pretty nifty package for quick education.

The company also has a website (inside the help section is a link) that has answers to everything you could imagine - either through the online help, or via the forums.

Great product, and not too expensive.

I think this program beats any home design program out there. It is based on the old Home Architect program, and I have always thought it was the simplest, best program. I have been an avid user/teacher of Chief Architect Inc software since 1995 (I mainly use Chief Architect X1 in my /drafting and design business) but the line of consumer software like Home Designer Suite 8 is a steal for anyone wanting to quickly play with Architectural ideas and scenarios. This program will not produce construction documents (blue prints) but is perfect for communicating ones creative ideas to building professionals.

I am a girl who is very interested in architectural things, when I once played "The Sims"TM I realized I just had to get a cad software for designing. It is very good to design your dream home, or simply design a room or a kitchen. It has pretty good graphics, even though I think that the could have done their foliage better. I was so excited when my dad bought it for me for a graduaton present. When most kids were getting software, I was getting software. Eventhough I was going to get a cellphone anyway, which I stll haven't gotten. This program is worth the money please buy! note that it does not have elevators. If a thing that pops up and says update available for the product,I downloaded it, and nothing happened, all it does is gives a few more things. If you go on the website, you might find a couple of update things, for 7.0 and 8.0 I tried downloading a 7.0 it didn't work, but the updates are really cool. I have Windows XP and the software works great! If your looking into this I'd buy it, and I submitted 4 of the customer images.

Have just tried one structure - an outdoor pavilion. This product is definitely geared toward traditional applications. Try to do anything "outside the box" and you are in for a long session trying to find creative ways around standard commands and insertable, pre-developed architectural elements. If you have any CAD experience at all, it is frustrating to not be able to just create your plan from scratch. Cannot seem to save file to file type that is compatible with my plotter. Consider your options carefully before purchase.

There is no way a scan is going to be better than the original its scanned from.

Unless you expect somebody to retouch 11,000+ pages you will be happy with this package.

It's looks exactly like you remember the original comics.

I grew up with Spiderman....on TV as TV movies and cartoons...but I always thought that there was more to it than that.

Getting this box set makes the world of Spiderman come alive. I completely missed out on the original stories of Gobbie, Doc Oc, Venom, Carnage....all that....but no longer. I like seeing where the world starts and comes all the way through 2006.

I also have the Iron Man DVD and will most likely pick up the Incredible Hulk and possibly the Avengers set as well.

I've liked X-Men, so that might be a future purchase as well.

I bought this product because I wanted to catch up on stories from the 90's. Unfortunately, at that time Marvel ran several Spider-Man titles each month and the story lines moved between them. Because this collection contains only issues of The Amazing Spider-Man, you will find that you get the beginning of a story, but not the middle or end, because those were carried out in other comics; or the end but not the beginning. This product indeed contains the complete run--but it is made up of frustratingly incomplete stories. Also, each page appears with a horribly intrusive watermark. Save your money.

I have tried many brands of home design software--this is the worst! I would not recommend this to beginners--it is not user friendly or easy to learn Tutorial to walk you through it is impossible to find. Graphics are amateurish-similar to much cheaper programs. Performance is sluggish at best, and I ran this on a very fast computer with loads of memory and a top line video card. HGTV should be ashamed.

My background is in Architecture and I have been using similar products for over 12 years. I have am not a representative of either HGTV or Nova Development but I did extensive work, based on my background, on the images used for the advertising of HGTV Home Design series.

I can say that there is no product at this price range that is as user friendly. It is both extremely easy to use and extremely flexable. But do not think that it cannot do more advanced and complicated projects. The great aspect of HGTV Home Design series is that it is realtively new compared to others on the market. This then allows for the latest innovations to be built into the code base.

Commands as simple as using a Paint Brush to apply textures to walls and the ability to select/ right click and 'REPLACE' an object with a new one without deleting the old, are examples of how new innovations are being implimented. Curving a wall and having the roof automatically adjust to that new wall configuration are not available in some older code based programs.

While Real View Rendering is relatively simple, I have not found ANY program that so effectively impliments Radiosity rendering. The ability of the rendering engine to calculate light as it bounces off of various textured surfaces can be a long process in most programs. In HGTV Home Design series, Radiosity solutions are not only extremely realistic but the fastest I've seen.

Anyone having a problem using the program must realize that such 3D programs can eat up your computer. You MUST have the latest Graphics Card Driver on your machine and the more memory you have the better off you are. Older machines can run these 3D programs but faster is better.

I highly recommend this product.

I love HGTV. The programming is great, and the Internet resources are incredibly helpful. So, naturally, I was excited to learn that they now make software. And it definitely hasn't disappointed!

I am just about the most novice person there is when it comes to computers. (Sadly, my 9-year-old runs circles around me. :-) So I was a little intimidated when I bought the software ... but it turns out the software is really easy to install and easy to use.

Basically, there are two programs: one that allows you to bring in your digital photo and change paint colors, fabric colors and such - and a second that is a very cool 3D program that you can use to lay out rooms or an entire house and add doors, windows, cabinets, appliances, etc. Both are a cinch to pick up.

There are also HGTV videos on a wide variety of subjects and a great user manual for help.

I really had no idea home design software could be so easy to use. I strongly recommend it.

This is the worst piece of software that I have ever tried to install and run. The book does not match what is on the screen and there are features discussed in the manual that do not exist in the software. In addition, the software stopped responding and had to be closed and restarted about every 5 minutes. I tried it on a second computer and it displayed some of the same issues with the software not matching the manual. While it did not close down on the second computer, different problems were noted with some functions not working at all. Whatever you do, do not buy this software. HGTV should be ashamed for putting out junk like this. I plan to return it and try the Home and Garden version.

1stars - "Don't Buy this software" (Phoneless)

I admit I was skeptical of home design software, thinking it'd be too technical and complex. Not so of HGTV Home Design and Remodeler. My wife has been wanting to redecorate our family room, and so in a moment of rare compliance on my part :-) I surprised her with a whole rendering of the new room. In literally 10 minutes I was able to open a photo taken with my digital camera and to change the paint color on the walls and the fabric on our sofa and chair. It gave us both a great idea of what the room would look like ... well, at least what it would look like before she goes putting her bric-a-brac all over the place. :-) Then we went out and bought the corresponding paint color (the software actually tells you what brand and paint number to buy) and slipcovers for the furniture (cheaper than reupholstering) and, voila, the room turned out exactly as we expected - and I was the hero (another rarity). Very impressive stuff. I haven't really gotten into all the 3D stuff yet, but it looks cool and so far is very easy to use.

In a rash moment, I sold my collection of National Lampoon magazines dating from April, 1970 through 1985. I replaced it with this DVD...big mistake. The DVD edition could have been much better with a little more effort in creating an index search and enhancing the quality of the scans. Still, I sold my mags for almost $400 and spent only $27 on the DVD. With patience, it suffices but I hope an enhanced version is released soon.

3stars - "Great Idea - Lousy Execution" (M. A HERBST)

I'm a major fan of the Lampoon(at least the peak years in the 70s) and got this so I could sell the copies I have that I will only cause to fall apart should I read them much. So this, just for its archival value and how it makes studying it easier--I'm also a satirist--is worth far, far beyond what they're charging for it. I'm particularly glad that all the issues were simply scanned, ads and all, as the period ads were always part of the charm. PSYCHOLOGY TODAY seems heavily represented(and at some point, satirized viciously), including merchandising like a game called "Blacks & Whites." One can only wonder...

I notice some reviews complain it doesn't have a search function. Actually, it does, it's just that, unlike past archive CD-ROMs(the original MAD CD-rom collection is one example), it's very no-frills and simply uses the text search function inside Adobe Acrobat itself. Beyond that, it's fine. So far I've been able to find what I've searched for.

I understand that everyone has the right to freedom of speech, but what about common human decency? I'm a fan of morbid humour, but when you are making fun of killing an innocent creature, I think it has gone too far. Would NP have released this cover if the gun were being held to the head of a baby or a racial minority? I'm not talking about politically correct humour. I am merely saying that it is unfortunate that NP has not only included this front cover image, but the back cover clearly indicates that the threat has been carried out. It's not about being tasteful. It's about actually crossing a line into cruelty. So, this product sucks and it insults the intelligence and the level of humor of NP fans.

After reading the other reviews, I decided to try this even though other reviewers had some gripes about it. I'm glad I ignored the negative reviews! I am a huge fan of the magazine, and now I will be able to read all of the issues in the entire run! PDF format makes it very portable and easy to use. Well worth the money if you enjoy the magazine - don't believe the negative reviews this product is awesome!

5stars - "Highly Recommended!!" (Dellamorte)

It was nice to re-read the classic first ten years when Kenny and Beard were on board. I bought the first few issues while in VietNam and it was a blast of fresh air then and still a good read now. Some of Doug Kenny's articles are priceless. I continued reading the mag when I went back to college. Everyone in the dorm was a fan of the magazine. This product is a great way to collect the entire series.
