For some unexplained reason important add-ons such as parental controls & anti-spam have to be installed via a seperate download after the main install. This has failed on 2 out 3 computers.

Watch out for renewal - these guys are highway robbers - they charged my card $75 while the the online price is $60 without my request or approval 3 weeks before the subscription expired. Called them & as expected it was a waste of time. Now I will dispute it with my CC company.

Wow. I installed Norton 360 about a month ago. I work off of Windows XP Home edition. I have had nothing but issues from the start.
At first, the installation of Norton and compatibility issues with ServicePack MS installation did something to my registry and completely wiped out my wireless internet connection. Norton's support was of absolutely no help - it was only after speaking with a very kind MS support person that they were able to fix my corrupt registry and get me back on track. In looking on the web this is not an uncommon occurance.
Then the backup problems began. Norton makes it difficult to identify and select files - I went through about 2 hours of checking and unchecking boxes only to find that the selections had defaulted back to the original the next time around even after saving the settings. Of course, the default settings automatically back up a huge amount of content well exceeding the "free" allowance and creating the alert to buy more online storage.
To my further frustration, my computer is now much slower than it has ever been and trying to do anything with Norton running a process in the background is near impossible. I'm constantly getting low virtual memory notices even though my computer meets all of the system requirements listed on the product box. Just today I began to get the error messages as outlined in some of the other reviews.
I had sworn off Norton 3 years ago but decided to give them another try - feeling that after all this time and the success of the company they MUST have improved their product. Apparently, the success of the company is due to their ability to suck the money away from unsuspecting consumers. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Never again.

I've always used Norton protection products but finally got smart last year and bought the 360 - the whole ball of wax - instead of Anti-virus and Internet Security, etc. After a happy year with it on computers with both Windows XP and Vista, I bought 360 2.0 in September and have used it successfully ever since. I run it on my laptop (Vista) and my desktop (XP) with absolutely no problems whatsoever. It does everything it needs to do behind the scenes and I never even know it's there. Just like it's supposed to be.

I used Norton Utilities back when any memory over 640k was a rare luxury. It was fast and reliable; it just worked brilliantly. Shortly after they were acquired by Symantec it immediately became useless bloatware. I gave up on it and moved on to other products which required fewer resources.

Norton 360 is a return to the good old days. I bought it because it claimed to be improved in terms of resource demands. It didn't hurt that it was also on sale. I have to say I am very impressed. I works silently and efficiently. Unless your machine is ready for the scrap heap, you'll never know it's there. Which is just the way I like it.

Highly recommended.

Bought it direct from Microsoft and downloaded for $29.99. Worked great for about a month, then just shut down. The Windows firewall turned off and wouldn't turn back on. Couldn't bring up OneCare at all. Logged onto Microsoft's website to troubleshoot. Among all the "cures" I was advised to try the last was to uninstall and then reinstall. Uninstalled as instructed and when I went to download it was asked to pay for it again. Duh! When I called Microsoft the tech said in very nice tones, "Toughh" I've downloaded Free Avast and it works just fine. That tore it with Microsoft for me. Next computer: Probably Apple.

I am a computer professional and many of the problems we resolve for hundreds of dollars would be fixed or prevented by MS Windows Live OneCare 2.0. People who have virus infected computers that I have recommended this too have just install OneCare were back to normal in a day or so.

No software is perfect but this would be the first software I would put on a new computer or one that is getting slow. This will keep your computer running well far longer than anything else you can do unless you are a computer expert and is more efficient. Perfect for the home user!

My PC has a 2.2g duel core intel processor with 2g RAM (any of you folks out there who still has less than 1 g of ram, or still using single core, please, stop complaining abt new softwares slowing down your PC and get real!). I was using NIS 2006 previously on this PC. Recently, the subscription for NIS 2006 ran out so I uninstalled it (which went without a glitch!!!! yes, I just used the normal "do it from the control panel method"!). Then I loaded in NIS 2008. Man! My boot up actually speeded up! I know some of you folks have all kinds of complain but I don't see this at all! Who says this product slow down you PC? I think it only slow down those PC who doesn't have the processing power in the first place.

If you do not renew every year the product stops working....COMPLETELY! I'm not just talking about updates, etc. It actually tells you that it has stopped working and it won't work unless you renew. I have a Macbook on which I use a program called VMWare Fusion to run Windows programs like Quicken. The external hard drive that I use to back up my Windows programs did not work for my Mac programs because the Mac did not recognize the NTFS file system on the hard drive. After doing some research, I discovered this product, which enables me to go seamlessly between backing up my Windows and Mac programs on the same hard drive. The program resides in the background, so once you install it, there is nothing further to do.

Although there is a free program called MacFuse that does the same thing as the Paragon product, for my needs it had certain technical quirks, which is why I bought the Paragon product.

I downloaded a trial version of this product from the manufacturer's website to try it out. When I was ready to purchase, I ordered the CD from Amazon because that was cheaper, and without any problem used the information on the CD to register the product without having to reinstall it from the CD.

One tip if you use VMWare Fusion or a similar program: After backing up Mac data on the hard drive, eject it in Finder, and then reconnect it on the Windows desktop, and vice versa. If you forget to do this, you may have to restart the computer to get the hard drive recognized.

If you work with both a PC and a Mac, or in my case have Windows installed on your Mac, this is a great way to use one hard drive for all of your needs.

This software allows you to access an NTFS formatted hard drive with an Apple Mac.
The access is limited however. It is not possible to play large video files from the NTFS hard drive. By large I mean anything over 2-3 GB. I find this to be an annoying problem. The work around is to copy the file you want to play from the NTFS external hard drive onto the computer. This is the only problem I have noticed so far. I give the product 6 out of 10.

I bought Paragon's NTFS for Mac OS X because I had just purchased a Seagate 750GB Hard Drive to transport files from PC to Mac and vice versa. Low and Behold, the beloved Mac OS 10.3.5 (Leopard) read, but did not write the NTFS file format. I installed the download version from Paragon's web site (Search it on Apple Store for Link), and it installed smoothly on my MacBook and ran successfully by replacing the standard driver. No other effects, ill or otherwise have been seen to date. I successfully copied about 80GB of music files, 20GB of .pdf books, backed up all my other drives and jump-drives and still have 600GB left. When the trial period expired (It isn't really Shareware as Apple states), I purchased the CD from Amazon.com cheaper than a download license at Paragon (free shipping over $25.), and the license numbers unlocked the trial version without a glitch. And I have the CD for backup.

Good product, good installation, good price and service from Amazon.

Here's my review of Kidswatch: I downloaded the free trial of Kidswatch, and although I could configure it, I was surprised to see Kidswatch could only be used to monitor my kids if I bought Kidswatch (not exactly my idea of a free trial to let me configure users, hours, etc. but still not use it to control my kids' usage until I pay). So I talked to the kids, who decided to create their own self-monitoring log, and I uninstalled Kidswatch. Thought I was done.

But wait! Now all users cannot access the control panel, including me!! It's gone! If I search on "control panel", it appears, but if I run it, I'm told I cannot run it because of restrictions on the computer, and to check with my system administrator (I'm at home, and own the computer, so this means check with myself). I contacted Kidswatch technical support, and they had no solution for me. Thank you!

I am using a new HP Pavilion computer with Windows Vista Ultimate operating system. If just installing it and uninstalling it does this, I cannot imagine how much it trashes up your computer if you buy it and activate it! Good luck!

good idea and easy to install and configure, but i could never get the remote admin feature to work, and too many normal websites like google and yahoo got blocked, and the limit on total hours feature assumes you login logout each time pc is used, it cannot detect actual pc activity, so if you leave the pc on, but dont use it, you come back to find out you are locked out. I have reverted to using only the Vista builtin parental controls which cover most of the bases.

This product probably works great, but I've not actually gotten it installed/set-up completely to thoroughly try it out. I want to use this on my Vista machine, and Vista is a bit foreign to me to begin with. I procrastinated in installing it after it arrived, and then when I did I can't say the installation screens were too clear on what exacty I was doing. Shortly after the install we started having problems getting to the internet. The computer would just chug and chug and chug. I'm not sure if this product was the reason, but I ended up uninstalling to try and remedy the problem and haven't gotten around to re-installing.

I have two children ages 8 and 5. During the set-up I was prompted to set-up a password for each user. I'm not sure if I had to, but there weren't clear instructions on what the purpose of each field was, and whether it was required. Needless to say, the 5 year old was confused and required assistance each time he wanted to just use the computer to play a CD game. This became a bit frustrating for both of us.

I'm sure this product is great-- I was impressed by previous user's reviews. I've just not been successful in understanding how to properly set this program up.

I have been using Trend Micro for 2 years and have been happy with the result (actually I am using 2007 on my PCs). I used to use Zone Alarm but I was having trouble installing the full software updates and I had to put the old version on since it seemed to work (I had this trouble on two PCs).

Also, Zone Alarm was costly making single license copy for each machine. So for my 2 PCs, it was $100 and the Trend Micro engine blocks much more Spyware and Tracking Cookies...

Pros:
1) Cost
2) Frequent updates
3) Scanning of Virus/Spyware
4) Blockage of unwanted phishing

Cons:
1) Long scanning time for Viruses (it takes four hours to scan my computer)
2) Frequent scanning - sometimes I notice the program scanning for virus more than once a week.

Even with the Cons, the product is much better than some of competition (Zone Alarm, Norton).

I've been using Trend Micro on personal hardware since 2005. I have been using the 2008 version since 8/2007. The 2008 version is much faster than the 2007 version. Compared with some other well known brands, I have difficulty understanding why so many have said it's slow. I have 2 fairly high-end PC's (new in 2007) and an excellent T-61 Lenovo laptop. I run some heavy duty software, and change software far more frequently than the average user. Let's address some of the complaints:

1) Is it hard to install? I had an early version of Internet Security and installed it over the 2007 version on the pre SP1 Vista OS (one PC uses the 64-bit version). I am NOT a fan of Vista. It is horrible, and it causes problems with lots of software. But my experience was nothing like what other have described. The one problem I did have was that I needed to get new product keys for each PC I was upgrading. (I kept getting a message I had exceeded to number of licenses I had purchased.) FY: make sure you turn off Vista's protection before you install TM Internet Security - especially the Windows firewall. And keep them off.

2) Performance: I have yet to find a security program (or a combination of programs) that does not slow down performance. It is the nature of the beast. Does 2008 slow down your machine more than other similar packages? Some yes and some no. The perfect security software doesn't exist. Some are faster, but they may not be as comprehensive. I have a difficult time believing a Symantec or McAfee user would find Trend Micro slow. Unless you turn off a lot of the features in those products, they can be much slower. At lot depends on the specific task being performed. IMHO, email is not significantly affected. Web browsing can be depending on your degree of risk tolerance. Set at higher levels of security, the affect can be noticeable, but TM is extremely effective is identifying dangerous sites, BEFORE you actually load the pages. If you have ever had a seriously infected PC, that protection is worth a lot.

Updates and comprehensive scans are slow. No disagreement.

3) Some complain TM is intrusive. That means it is doing it's job. I am very paranoid about software that makes changes to the registry or other settings I made to Windows. TM has saved me more than once - even from some commercial software. Be very worried if your security software doesn't warn you about changes should you add software on a regular basis or if you do a lot of browsing.

4) At least one person indicated PC to PC communication is slow. There are a lot of advanced settings available with TM. Some have a direct impact on communications between PC's on a LAN behind a firewall. (Yes, I use multiple firewall solutions simultaneously: at the host level, the LAN level and the PC level. I have a gigabit LAN with 3 PC's, 2 Mac's, a server, a NAS unit, and dedicated equipment for data backups. If communication is slow, there is a setting that needs to be changed.

If your not communicating PC to PC over a LAN, you can set TM to recognize specific PC's to minimize any latency. If speed and security are really important, your LAN (or PC to PC connection) should be hardwired. With a wireless solution, you will never achieve the speed of CAT 5e or CAT 6 cable connections. In fact, I seriously doubt one can achieve the advertised speed of wireless.

5) Trend Micro tech support is not great. The sad news is that is true of many hardware and software vendors. In general, tech support throughout the industry has been deteriorating for years. Front line techs rarely have a clue; they have scripts. I am not defending TM. I am taking a shot at the vast majority of vendors.

6) Believe it or not, I am not a techie or geek. I'm forced to deal with technology as part of part of my professional life. One learns things through osmosis and making lots of mistakes. After reading many of the comments, in my very humble opinion I am guessing there may be some user influence behind the problems discussed.

Last comment. The PC publications we find on the magazine racks have a habit of overrating products. That creates false expectations. When products fail to meet expectations, people can be very disappointed. I wonder if the advertising in those magazines has any effect on how editors rate products?

I've used Trend Micro for 3 years and found it to be a decent anti-malware product. It's easy to use and has had good ratings from consumer organizations. TM provides free chat and phone support, which is unusual. However, in my experience none of these products, including Trend Micro, are perfect. You need to supplement them with products like NoScript and SiteAdvisor. You also get conflicts with other software. One thing I didn't like about TM 2008 is that it before installation it made me uninstall auxiliary protection products like SpywareBlaster and AVG Antispyware--but I was able to reinstall some of them later.

Don't waste your money on this software. I purchased this software to erase a hard drive before donating the computer. I initially tried running this software from the hard drive after installing it. It would not run with all of the many little programs that Windows opens running. I then created a boot disk from the software and used it to boot the computer. It then said it couldn't erase the hard drive as configured, despite the fact that the BIOS showed that it was configured correctly for Drive Erase. I eventually purchased Webroot's Wndow Washer, which worked perfectly.

This was a very simple process for someone who does not do this type of work on a regular basis. It took less than an hour to do the entire process and have my old computer ready to give to someone to use for their children. This was a very simple process for someone who does not do this type of work on a regular basis. It took less than an hour to do the entire process and have my old computer ready to give to someone to use for their children. For the average PC user, the instruction manual could be more detailed. Very little information included on reinstalling your operating system once you've used DriveErase to erase your hard drive. The software performed as promised, though, and offers several options, from fast/less-secure to extensive/super-secure. The instructions recommend which option to choose, depending on how the computer was used (home/office) and who will use it next (a friend, colleague or stranger).

This product worked perfectly. I had several computer systems that needed to be tossed or donated. I have used BC Wipe and other similar tools for electronic media sanitization before a friend recommended this product. I am glad he did.

The software comes with two discs. One disc is wrapped in a red CD sleeve. It is this CD that one must be careful of (red = warning). It is CLEARLY marked that if you insert this into the computer and reboot, it will ERASE your ENTIRE hard disk drive. As a matter of fact, you have to proceed through several steps in the wizard after you reboot with the CD loaded before it actually wipes your drive. You must tell it which disk (if you have more than one) and/or partition to wipe and with which method of destruction. It seems that perhaps others may not have read the directions or the warning banners in their entirety which were clearly displayed before their hard drives were wiped.

One nice feature is the disk editor utility. You can look at what your disk looks like after you have overwritten it with random characters or zeros.

The other disc is for loaded tools onto your operating system so that you can destroy internet traces, specific files, and removable media such as thumb and flash drives.

If you are looking for an easy tool that will securely wipe your drive for disposal (donation, garage sale, auction, etc...) this is a great tool for the money.

(This is my first fully negative review of software. Normally I wouldn't bother anyone...)

Like most users, by the time you've bought a Vista backup program you already experienced or dealt with issues and solved a large number of them. I'm no different in that repect; my expectations are low so that I'm never disappointed. Well, I'm more than disappointed in S&R 2.

1 - My latest experience with my supposedly automated weekly backup to a 320 GB USB2 drive is fairly typical. Details vary from week to week, but the outcome is the roughly the same: I sat through THREE of these sessions last night to get a "routine" weekly incremental (it's not) backup to work. While reading a novel and supervising it, it took 90-120 minutes to back up less than 100 GB of information: it works for 90%-95% of the time, stops, and then says it cannot continue. Exit, and then coldboot or warmboot (your pick). No explaination other than "cannot access the target drive". I can see the drive, and copy files from the drive to test it, but S&R cannot find it. Try again and it works on the n+1 time. (n varies from week to week but was n=2 last night.)

2 - The welcome screen says that no recovery points have been created for my drive (C:) despite the fact that I can click on my target USB drive and see the dated files made by S&R. Better yet, when I go into other screens in S&R to manage previous backup recovery points, it can see them and work accordingly.

3 - The fine tuning elements for automatically deleting old recovery points also do not seem work. But then again, what do you expect for software that can't complete even its primary task.

4 - Technical support? What's that? I've already updated drivers, uninstalled and re-installed S&R2 several time, etc. See many other reviews on AMAZON.COM and CNET.COM. Even the best reviews (more than 1 star) say that the phone staff act like they haven't even seen the software.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY AND (LOTS OF) TIME EVEN THOUGH THE PACKAGE LOOKS GOOD, LIKE I DID.

What good can I say about this product? They really screwed up everything that could be screwed up. The interface is cluttered. Options that should be together are spread throughout the program. It won't back up a network-attached drive, which makes it pretty close to worthless for people with home networks.

If you want to cherry pick your backups, you might expect a tree view where you could click all the folders you want to back up. Sorry. You pick them through a chooser, and it is a real pain. Who thought of this?!

It also mysteriously takes forever on occasion. No, it's not a full backup that is the reason. It sometimes compares the system to an incremental to begin the incremental, and that can take longer than a full backup. This doesn't happen often, but when it does, you might as well do a full.

If you change drive letters on a drive, it stupidly can't figure out how to do the backups, and you can't just provide a new drive letter. The solution is to start the backups from scratch, near as I can tell.

It is really fast for drive-to-drive copying...but it fails 100% of the time for me. After 99% is finished, it always complains about a sector allocation (on a verified good drive) and dies.

I've had it with Symantec. Everything I've bought from them in the last few years is on the shelf. No more.

I use Save & Restore 2.0 (and before that V1.0).

When my system got corrupted after installing MS trial software (and MS tech support was unable to resolve the issue) I was able to quickly restore my system (Vista OS) with Norton's Save & Restore 2.0 and the CD boot disk that comes with the software.

Users need to realize that this is an image program. It creates a compressed image of your hard disk and does incremental updates of the original image. You can restore it to another hard drive from the bakup HD but you can't simply plug the external harddrive in and expect to use it from the backup harddrive. The software is not designed for this.

If you want to do this you need software such as CMS's Bouncback Professional, which maintains an uncompressed copy of your HD that can be used a boot drive.

That said, Save & Restore is simple and works. It does what it says it does. More importantly, since it stores a compress image it allows me to keep 5 copes of my system (covering 5 weeks) on a single external HD.

I recommend that one use at least two backup solutions and a UPS. I use Save & Restore (to an external Seagate USB HD), Mozy; an online service, and a APC UPS to filter the power and provide protection against power surges. Additionally, I copy important files to a CD monthly.

Look, this is a waste of your time. Indian support which gives you no answers. Ran for 48 hours and failed three times. It just doesn't work. If you want something that works and has great support look for NovaBACKUP. These guys really work with you and make sure the product does what it claims. It's the same price and 1000 times better.

I rely heavily on Reviews when I shop at Amazon, so wanted to be sure and make sure to warn people as well as recommend things as I buy them. Norton did give me a full re-fund but it cost me a week to get it back. Hope this helps...good luck!

I wanted a simple way to clone my laptop drive to an external drive so that in the event of a failure, I could simply swap the drives. The software seemed to work just fine and gave no error messages. I swapped drives to test and guess what, I was unable to logon to Windows. It would prompt me for my password and then say "logging off". I have used shareware software that worked better, albiet slower. I would not recommend this software for anyone looking to perform full didsk-to-disk backups.

Steer clear of Norton/Symatec products. My HP came with Norton SystemWorks 2006 trial version and I thought it wss fine. Assumed the installation of the product would be quick and painless. Don't remember all that went wrong, but one thing is that I was told by customer support after the fact that I should have uninstalled the trial version before installing the version I had purchased. It took forever to install even when there weren't problems. After suffering with a computer that had slowed to a crawl I was able to determine that it was due to a setting in my Norton Internet Security 2006 program. I finally stopped using it even though I had purchased a two-year version. The Windows uninstall program chugged along for quite a while before announcing that the program could not be removed. Got the Norton removal tool from the web and that's what I'm doing right now. I had not been using the product for months, but it is so hard to get rid of, that I hadn't done so.

I can't even comment on the actual System Works application because I never got it to run - it ruined my system right after install! Once I installed it, it asked for a reboot, then came back wtih "Load Error! Press a key to reboot..." which just lead to the error message again, and again, and again.

A chat with tech support (after an hour wait) revealed that there are problems with the GoBack files, so I had to create a bootable CD, and do all kind of things which I haven't been able to do yet since my burner software doesn't have Image capability - necessary for creating this bootable cd.

Don't buy it, don't install it, don't use it - uninstall everything Norton/Symantec and never go back. I'll be lucky if I ever get my computer working again.....Thanks Symantec!!!!!

After over a year and a half including renewing for updates I've now discarded Norton SW 2006. it was problamatic and a waste of money. It conflicts with Partition magic another Symantec product and will not work with many MS updates. My system is now operating trouble free since I've uninstalled NSW. Previously my computer was eratic and crashed frquently.

I've been using Norton products for over 10 years.
Each year they get more complex and more bulky.
However, once the product is configured properly
it tends to run well, detects intrusions and can
improve the health of just about any Windows based system.
The online update process seems to work well.
However if you change your hardware system configuration
you may have to re-activate the product.

The default (out-of-box) settings ALWAYS needs tweaking.
The 2007 version is even more bloated than this version.
