I decided to solve the problem "network setting have been changed by another program", received after I installed a recent Mac security update, with an upgrade from Tiger to Leopard. I had exhausted the possibilities offered by the Mac Fix It forum, and I had not been able to access the internet for a long time. Apple, it seems, has not offered a fix.

Leopard installed easily, and I did a custom install, choosing to not install printer drivers, non-English languages, and a Unix module, saving myself 5 or so gigs of space. The dial up internet is now working great, and surfing on the Web is much faster than with Windows XP, with many less problems. I also installed the recent 10.5.5 update.

ive been a mac user for years now, and ive always had mobile me (formerly .mac) and while a lot of people find it a waste because they can get their email for free somewhere, ive always been a fan of it. you can store files on the iDisk server and i also use iWeb for my website and everything is easily done with the aid of mobile me. i usually buy it on thanksgiving when its discounted but seeing as they didnt this year, i got it off of amazon instead. i just use this code instead of auto-renewing for 100 dollars. their big thing about mobile me is the ease of syncing but to be honest, they do get some delays in the email from time to time. personally, i think this is a nice tool for keeping everything in 1 spot (file storage/website/email/photo sharing) instead of 5 different programs/sites - granted, it would be much cheaper if you did it separately (email/photosharing are free, you could probably pay for a site and storage pretty low) but the feature of this is to be seamless with your mac and have 1 central spot.

I've been a .Mac/mobileme subscriber for years, and the real value is the integration with my system. One-click publishing of photos and movies at full quality, plus fast reliable email and web hosting, flawless sync between all 5 of my macs and iPhone... People will claim that you can get most of these services for free in various other places, which is correct. The value here is in the convenience and integration that you won't find with any other service.

It's no secret that Apple had some major issues with the relaunch of MobileMe, but that was a minor hiccup in what has been for me a rich and robust experience over the years. HIGHLY recommended.

It's no secret that MobileMe had a very rough start. My e-mail was pretty much out of commission for the first couple days. Since then though, it's been great. The service has been reliable and quick every time I've used it for months. I keep all the files I need to access from multiple computers (Macs and Windows) on iDisk. I keep my mail, calendar and address book synced to my iPod Touch through MobileMe. It's integrated well with iWeb so I host my blog and web site there. Apple seems to have worked the bugs out of it.

The only reason it didn't get the fifth star is the price. It either needs a lower price or more functionality.

I have stuck through DotMac/MobileMe through thick and thin and, for me, it is improved to the point where it is a necessity. The convenience of having the address book and contacts synched between all of our mobile devices and the several Macs at home easily saves me more $ (time still=$) than Amazon's $76 annual fee and even Apple's $99 fee.

MobileMe Family Pack I had just purchased and signed up for Mobile Me a few days before my hard drive on my MacBook crashed. I had good backups of everything but my address book and contacts. Fortunately, those were all stored on my MobileMe account "in the cloud". After getting the new hard drive (thank you Apple Care) and reloaded my OSX operating system) & programs, I synced my computer with MobileMe *just like magic* all of my calendar appointments & contact information were just there. How cool is that?

If you have an iPhone and don't have MobileMe you are just simply missing out on one of the best parts of the service. In addition to the sync capabilities, you have access to iDisk which will give you a place to store photos and files that are accessible from any web browser. You will also have access to your calendar, contacts & email from any browser.

This is a hard-to-beat service and I would highly recommend the Family pack if you have more than one iPhone in the family.

I am a Mac user as I have stop using Windows and Linux. I find the MobileMe experience very good. Sure the launch at first was bad, but I never had any problems. I have my desktop calendar and contacts syncing to my MacBook Pro, Mac Pro, and iPhone (3G). They are all syncing without any problems for myself and my spouse who is a Mac user as well (iMac - MacBook - iPhone (3G)). The family pack is just a cost efficient way to have 5 accounts. You can also renew your existing family account and still save money over what Apple would charge you for a renewal.

I also like the way I can post pictures, movies, and webpages. I tend use the MobileMe over something like Flickr or Picasa or Kodiak as I don't have to worry about my pictures being open for public use. Those other sites cannot guarantee that my pictures are deleted when I remove them from those sites.

The last time is that this service does give you access to Apple's support. I never had any problems with this support system and every time I had to ask a question, the support staff was able to answer my question and give a good explanation to help you understand the process.

This is a very good buy and I would recommend this product especially to anyone having the iPhone and want their contacts synced with their desktop and phone using MobileMe's cloud.

I've been a .mac owner for years, and the transition to Mobile Me went very smooth. Mobile Me is a HUGE upgrade from the days of .mac. The website interface is very slick, and has a lot of very cool features. If you own a Mac - buy this. If you own an iPhone - buy this. I know there were some people who signed up back in July during the transition, that didn't have as much luck. This was a very small group of users, and Apple gave them months upon months of free Mobile Me usage. Mobile Me is great, pick it up today.

Ever since have have had OS 10.5, otherwise called Leopard, I have had problems with settings and peripherals. My printer no longer prints on our wireless network even with driver updated. I finally decided I will keep my printer plugged in and wait for the companies to do what they need to do. My very common asp Roadrunner has had trouble handing my e-mail. Apple did straighten that out after talking with a number of their staff. My asp helpers were clueless. I guess I'm going through the growing pains as many have with MS Vista-although my problems haven't been nearly as bad as that fiasco. Actually Leopard is a great product, but there a some trouble spots that need fixing.

I like the Leopard, and I have shared it with family members who also have a MAC. They agree that it is easy to use. The only thing I had to do...that I'm aware of ... is update RealPlayer. But that was very easy. This has some interesting ways of reminding me of things, and there are still some things I can't find. But I'm a slow learner, and I have to get with my "tutor" to be able to upgrade my brain. But so far, I have not found anything I don't like about it.

This OS is nice and well enough designed for Intel processor machines, but for "Power-PC" processor Macs, it's a debacle. I have one of the last of the G5 iMacs (20") and it never crashed at all with Mac OS 10.4. But with 10.5, IT WILL CRASH EVERY SINGLE TIME I use iTunes. Sometimes it crashes when I'm using iTunes, and sometimes it will crash after I use that program and quit the application. It doesn't seem to matter what I do. And yes, this is a legal, registered version of the OS. And yes, I have re-installed it twice, all to no effect. Apple has some serious work to do to make this latest OS viable for their not-too-distant machines. I hear they are completely giving up on their G-Series machines with OS 10.6, so if you have 10.4, hold on to it and don't let go. Until Apple figures it out (IF they even try), users should avoid this OS.

No problems with 10.3.9 on a powerbook g4 (never a need to reinstall) for nearly 6 years. Finally gave in when websites required the capabilities of Safari 3, dotMac required iWeb, Backup stopped working on 3.9, and some favs required 10.4 in their latest versions.
Quite happy with X.4.11 but Safari 3 is a dud so far, but that may be because old Safari ignored much of the content and hence loaded quicker. Old Mail also was twice as fast getting my new mail. Have to wait another 5 years to see if it's as stable as Panther.

When OS 10.4 was released much was expected by the consumer and OS 10.4 delivered. Not that it was the perfect release as it was followed up with upgrades but the first release was solid. Stable and easy to use, after installation I found no problems on my mac. And even more so enjoyed the new features that it offers. 10.4 is the final version that can be run on most G3 macs. It will be in demand as consumers look to upgrade their G3s. Many chose not to upgrade when it was released but for different reasons want to move up now. It's solid, dependable and can be upgraded to 10.4.11 for free from Apple's web site.

I'm not a fan of buying a new OS when it first comes out. I'd rather wait until most, if not many, of the bugs have been fixed. My iBook came with OS X Jaguar (10.3.x) preinstalled, and had been upgraded to 10.3.9. When Apple came out with Leopard (10.5), I took the plunge and bought Tiger (10.4.x), and now my iBook is running on 10.4.11, and I've experienced no problems whatsoever. This laptop (12" screen, 1.2 GHz PowerPC G4, 768 MB DDR SDRAM, upgradable to 1.2 GB) is a couple years old (purchased in 2005), and, obvioiusly, uses the old PowerPC processor, but is quite capable of running Leopard should I choose to install it. However, I'm content to run on a slightly older OS, such as this one, knowing that the majority of the bugs experienced with it have been ironed out. My only real complaint so far is that it took an incredible amount of time to install, but it has worked flawlessly ever since. RECOMMENDED!

I bought a used Mac with Panther already on it. I bought Tiger because that was the current O/S release, and since I had no bonafide O/S installer disk, I wanted a safe recovery disk I could use to reboot and rebuild the whole system from if I ever needed it.

This is on a G4 733 MHz, with 768 MB RAM.

Lots of eye candy, zero substance. If you are happy with Panther, don't bother.
After using Tiger for a year, I have yet to see it do anything at all of any use.
The machine does NOT run faster, and
Spotlight? Good God. MAKE IT DIE.

1. Spotlight's drive indexing will either kill your performance (if you let it update often enough to be of any use), or be out of date so it can't find files. TURN IT OFF.

2. Spotlight can't find half the files that are really on your drive. TURN IT OFF.
Even if you get rid of it, and get rid of all its indexes, it STILL will fail to find some files. AMAZING. They took a simple idea like searching through the drive directory for a file name and they broke it.
It took digging around on forums and a lot of screwing around to truly disable it. Now, when I search for a file, it takes longer because it has to actually search the disk, but guess what? It ACTUALLY FINDS THE FILES.

Panther's search dialogs were much simpler, worked faster, and found everything. Spotlight is the single biggest reason to avoid Tiger.

I got Tiger to improve the working of my Powerbook G4 1.5. My Jaguar installation was getting pokey after two years and a clean install with Tiger cleared out the annoying slowdowns in my computer. Before Tiger, my computer would hang when playing large DV files (such as the ones I made in iMovie) but now they run without a hitch even though the hardware is the same. This Tiger upgrade doesn't include some of the apps (games, Quicken, etc.) that my wife has on her new MacBook, but it did include a 30-day trial verion of iWorks which has come in handy!

This OS is one of the best I've used in years. I switched over from Windows and never thought of switching back. The usability is great along with the robustness. It's never crashed on me except when I was using faulty audio hardware device. The looks of it is just incredible. I came up with my own saying: "Once you go mac, you'll never go back". I gave this OS 4 stars because of Safari and it's inability to print selected portions of a website with time stamp and address, other than that it's great.

I am holding onto my G4 Mac. Don't need a G5 to change my whole life and cause me to upgrade thousands of dollars worth of software applications just to conform to the new OS for the G5. Everything seems to work fine right now, so why would I need to change anything? Tiger OS System takes care of everything for me and after 25 years of computers, I don't need to upgrade to something that has to have all the bugs worked out for the next 2 years. I think Apple is more concerned about iPods than making a better Macintosh. I visited an Apple store in Ft. Lauderdale and could not get help with information about the new G5 computer. They just tried to sell me an iPod. The iPod is the last thing I will need on this earth.

I upgraded OSX 10.3.9 without a hitch....well I did have to rework a few items (drivers for my 2496 sound card and a few apps.,etc...) to function however it wasn't that bad. After upgrading I can now use my wireless network printer. (Yuppie!) This OS kind of looks the same as 10.3.9 but it has many new features I like and use. I highly recommend it.

I mainly use my computer for Music (Digital Performer 4.6) and home video projects (Finalcut Pro 4.5HD) I also use it for surfing the Internet, Design and Word documents among many other things. My Mac is and has been the main item of my home recording studio. (G4 800 Quicksilver) I am very happy so far with this upgrade and recommend it to all G4 users waiting.

I was upgrading Pro Tools (recording software) and needed to upgrade my Apple Mac operating system. This was exactly what I needed. After ordering I was waiting for both this software and the Pro Tools upgrade. I was getting anxious since I was ready to begin recording again (haven't in about a year and a half). Anyway, I sent an email to John Kreutzer (the third party vendor I was ordering from). He was exceptionally kind and answered letting me know it had shipped a few days before and that I should get the software the next day. Well, low and behold, it was at home when I got there that night. A day before promised!!! That's refreshing these days. It installed with no problems and I updated from Apple any patches that have come out since then. It works flawlessly and I am happily recording again and thoroughly enjoying myself.

I would highly recommend this to anyone that needs this upgrade. In this case, Pro Tools has not certified it's product with Leopard yet so this was best for me.

My thanks to Amazon and to John for making it happen timely.

Unreliable software. It hangs up frequently. iCal is the worst scheduling program on the market. Expect it to duplicate events every time you sync with your phone. On a related note. Expect to pay for 3rd party software in order to sync your phone if its not a iphone.

Not sure about some of the negative reviews of this product... I hate to say it, but I feel like the bad reviews are coming from people that do not know what they are doing in regards to setting up a server. This is a much improved implementation of server software over 10.4. Clean interface and very easy to use assuming you understand DNS, OD, WGM, and so on. As a Macintosh Consultant I have installed and setup several servers running 10.5 and they have all ran very smooth with very minimal downtime.

This OS comes loaded with new features. It made my old Powerbook G4 run slightly slower, but I am yet to install it on my Macbook Pro. The only problem I've had is my documents got moved from my documents folder to my applications folder, but that took all but 5 minutes to correct. This is an excellent operating system. WELL WORTH THE MONEY!!!

This OS comes loaded with new features. It made my old Powerbook G4 run slightly slower, but I am yet to install it on my Macbook Pro. The only problem I've had is my documents got moved from my documents folder to my applications folder, but that took all but 5 minutes to correct. This is an excellent operating system. WELL WORTH THE MONEY!!!

When Leopard Server was first released, it certainly had some bugs. But any IT person worth their pay knows that you never install the first version of an Server OS after release.

Now that we are up to version 10.5.2, I feel like it's ready to shine.

The new Basic Install is great for those who are not really the IT person, but was put in charge of managing the server. The "On/Off" switches really make it easy to get services up and running.

My favorite thing about Advanced is the ability to see so many stats on how the server is doing under heavy loads.

And of course the best thing about a Mac OS X Server is the licensing. When compared to the costs of Windows server software, it's no comparison.

I had a horrible time with this as well. I installed version 10.5.2 on a new MacPro for a clean install. It was extremely unstable and crashed after only a short time. I wasted a lot of time researching the install and tried three times. I finally resorted to hiring an Apple Certifed Tech. It crashed and wiped out all of his settings as soon as I rebooted it.
I finally gave up and decided to run Leopard Client which run flawlessly and I am able to get by with it's limited server functions.

When I bought my system from a local retailer, Apple's website sold the MacPro with Server pre-installed as an option. That is no longer available. Also, even though you can rate most products on their web site, reviews are not permitted on Leopard Server. I guess they can't even get it to work.

I needed a full install mac OS 9 to run an older program that would not run in Panther / OS 9 Classic. Turns out, they are not easy to find. I found this one on Amazon for less than $50, so I feel fortunate. Everything works great!
