I have used Norton products for years, and I will continue to use Norton products. This is a product that can be trusted.

Was great to see such a good price on an item I really needed. I ordered 2 and gave one of them to a friend who also needed one and still paid less than I would have paid for one shopping locally. Love the fact that there is no shipping and handling fees on purchases over 25.00. You can bet I will check all the gold box values everyday. Amazon you do a fantastic job.

Well, it is Norton. The industry standard as far as I am concerned. I have had only Norton since 2005 after a rather sad experience with McAfee. I was slightly miffed that I had to download a separate Norton Removal Tool, but it wasn't that big a deal.

The only reason I took off one star was that the Removal Tool also deleted one of my drivers (my MP3 player), and I had to do some "work-around" to get it back up and going.

I have always liked Norton and we buy it every year, but since we got a new computer with Vista installed in it, it seems like Norton has been more of a burden than a useful tool. Recently, I had some connection issues and called tech support for my provider and I got this great guy who has advanced knowledge of Vista and tons of anti-virus software programs. He called Norton, "Norton, The Destroyer." Says it's a nickname the guys in the techie world use. Anyway, he said that the problem I was having involved Vista and not the server and that Vista was probably corrupted and Norton probably had a hand in it. Ugh!!! Now I have to restore my computer back to factory setting and back up EVERYTHING. This is the third time I have had to do while I was using some version of Norton. The guy I talked to highly recommended NOD32, which I bought today on Amazon. When I restore my computer, NO MORE NORTON. I will install NOD32, which got rave reviews, and see how it works out for me. I hope I NEVER have to do a system restore again!

As some others have mentioned, this version of Norton will not work with any non-Norton firewall. I had used Zonealarm (a free firewall program) along with Norton for many years...faithfully renewing and upgrading Norton each year. Now upon installing Norton 2009, Zonealarm was uninstalled and I have no firewall. By sneaking in this incompatibility, they have lost me as a customer. I still gave it 3 stars because, presumably, it still blocks viruses. But who knows.

Norton Internet Security 2009 1User/3Pc

This software installed easily, and has very little impact on system performance when scans are running. The network monitoring and other additional features are also a plus. I like this product much better than the McAfee software I had been using previously.

I highly recommend this product. It works well and does not slow down my computer. However, I am not sure that the product that I was shipped was OK. When I loaded it onto my computer, it shut down my ability to connect to the Internet. It took me five hours on the telephone with my Internet provider and Norton to fix my computer. The version of the software that I am now using was down loaded directly from Norton. I do not recommend buying any software from this supplier.

I have been using Norton products (antivirus and more recently NIS since 2005) and I can say this is better than ever. Faster, easy to manage and configure than its previous version (2008).

In fact I just installed and ran a full system scan and detected one trojan horse than its previous version didn't do it.

This NIS 2009 is updating many times a day all the virus definitions.

I don't know what else can say about this product only that is the best NIS ever made.

This is a truly remarkable product; I have used almost every virtualization product in existence (Virtualbox, VMWare Server/Workstation, Xen, QEMU, KVM...) and none have come close to being as fulfilling and highly integrated as this one, not even the original VMWare products on Windows works this well.

Here is a typical user story:
1) Use bootcamp in OS X to prepare space for a second OS.
2) Install the second OS (I use Windows Vista on a MacBook AIR).
3) Start VMWare in OS X and it will discover your new OS, install guest drivers and provide seamless integration (copy/paste, hibernation, run Windows programs from Mac, share files...).

The speed is good, I have no issue with running multiple programs in OS X and Vista all at once on my Air (fx. Oracle 11 inside Windows Vista). However what I find most amazing is the level of integration; when I close the lid on my MacBook it hibernates all running OSs. I can even assign windows programs to be started when I click a file in OS X.

To sum up this is one of the best software experiences I have had in many years, easily comparable to the pleasures of other famous Mac software (IPhoto, ITunes, QuickSilver..). Get it now.

Have used this for 11 months seamlessly. I love the way you can have PC applications on your Mac dock. One click and you open Windows and the application (example Word). The only problems I have had are with Windows -- the usual slowdowns and crashes. Nothing different from when I had a PC.
Fusion is priced well, too. My only beef is the commitment to partitioning your hard drive. As far as I can tell, you cannot undo this without reformatting your hard drive.

I have a new (refurbished) Macbook Pro 2.4ghz/4GB RAM.

All my legacy files and software are Windows so I need to run a WinXP Pro VM on my Mac to continue to use them.

One reason I bought a Mac was to reduce the level of frustration achieved using Wintel for 9 years.

Grrrr.

Fusion was a very promising piece of software which I bought it for half-price to boot almost 30 days ago. I know this because my 30 days of free support is about to expire and I've been getting my money's worth, in quantity if not quality. I am worried because almost (literally) every time I boot it up, I encounter yet another problem. The on-line support is generally OK, never exceptional and sometimes downright lousy. Some of the support folk are truly diligent, I believe. They are likely located in India, based on names and time of day of the responses. This is not a bad thing necessarily as they are working on issues while I am sleeping and I can wake up to a reply.

Some problems:
1. Virtual disks gobbling up the entire physical disk for no reason;
2. Windows Briefcases not handled well and sometimes their use in a way I've done for years on Wintel is prevented. It is a bug. I was told -- it's the OS, not our problem. More than once.
3. cannot right click to get certain context menus, either by a mouse right click or a two-finger-tap on touchpad.
4. one-time strange interaction with Seagate Drive Manager s/w
5. the use of Windows Search to catalogue the virtual drive was hit and miss.
6. newest one is keyboard shortcuts that don't work at all.

Some user error here? Probably. I like documentation, when available. (Don't get me started on Mac docs!)

All in all, there are a bunch of small, annoying bugs that prevent the s/w from actually working as expected. Which is too bad because it is great being able to bounce between Mac and Windows apps, backup my data to both MacOS and NTFS partitions (from the like OS).

If things don't improve soon, I'm inclined to look at either Parallels ($) or VirtualBox (free).

Are these issues with OS X 10.5.6 which I installed a week or two ago? Maybe some, but likely not all.

I encourage you to see what VirtualBox has to too offer first and then maybe parallels before choosing Fusion. I have no experience with either.

I never used Parallels so I'm not going to make a comparison between the two, besides, there are plenty of good comparison recommendations between them.

As it is in most every company, Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint slide shows abound and since the Mac is becoming fairly common in the workplace, it only stands to reason that you have seamless interoperability between the two. One of the things I noticed about office apps running natively on the Mac, even though they say they "export" or "save as" versions of Windows applications, they don't exactly make the cut. I work a lot in PowerPoint and Excel and often have to share slides or spreadsheets with others to collaborate on projects and presentations. The difficulty I had with doing this was that the version I sent them never seemed to look as good as it did when I was finished with it. I'd get all sorts of complaints from those working with me that my Mac just screwed things up.

I decided to try Fusion, load WIndows on it and just work with it for a bit. I liked it so much I ended up buying it but not only that, I found I was using it every day for other things too.

The latest version of Fusion works really well. Windows seems to run flawlessly (as flawlessly as any Microsoft product can) and allows me to do the bulk of my work on my Mac using Keynote or Pages then work on my spreadsheets through Fusion, Windows and Excel. When I finish my presentation, I go to Windows, open it in PowerPoint and tweak it for my coworkers use. This helps ensure they don't have to make any major changes.

One thing I've noticed is that Excel for Mac just runs like a slug on sandpaper, very slow and a real hassle not to mention it doesn't have all the capabilities I need so running Excel through Fusion with Windows isn't an option.

Recommendations:
I highly recommend anyone considering Fusion to max out your RAM on your machine. All Mac's will thank you anyway but Fusion works must better the more memory you have to throw at it. I also recommend you create a fresh install then take a snapshot of the image and burn that to a DVD for safe keeping. As with any Windows install, after a little while, you'll want to revert back to the fresh install at some point. Windows is like an air filter in your home, after a while, you just need to put another one in because it gets so clogged up with junk it doesn't work as well as it should and only causes problems.

If you're going to run Fusion, be sure you have the latest updates. As with any Windows computer, you need to reboot it frequently. Even though you're running a Mac which doesn't need to be rebooted as often, its still a virtual Windows Computer and will still need to be rebooted at least once a day.

Bottom line, this is a great product, works really well and has a great support team behind it.

I am using this to run Windows XP on my new MacBook Pro. The first thing I recommend is downloading the trial version, it is fully functional. I have no experience with Parallels or any other software of this type. The reviews I read and the trial provided me with no reason to try anything else.

Setup: Must admit that it would have been nice to have better directions, there were a few screens I was not sure of what to do...I just went with what was selected. I also used VWware fusion to install Windows XP by installing Fusion first.

Performance: I only use one program from the Windows side and I do so through Unity mode. The program works great and I am happy with the speed.

Complaint: If I try to print from the PC side, it will not print in color. I tried tech support with no luck.

Overall: I am very happy with the capabilities and performance of this program. It really made the transition to a Mac easy and possible.

I have ran mcaffee for 3 months. It worked fine. Now it tells me every three seconds that my computer is under attack. Every website I go to is now unprotected (Amazon, AOL, google, compuserve, even Mcaffee). I tried to download Panda antivirus. Mcaffee identified it as ,you guessed it, a virus. This is the perfect software for the person who wants to shut down his computer forever. Once I figure out how to delete it from my computer I am going to run with Panda security.

I have no complaints about the operation of this product on a Windows Vista system, but somehow (in my opinion in a sneaky manner) without my awareness, the "Auto-renewal" feature was set up that automatically updates at the end of the year and directly charges your credit card!

To stop this "feature", they give you three options, but none are easy. Using phone call costs you. The chat client doesn't download, and the email means you have to wait 48 hours for a reply.

I am disappointed. Be careful you don't get caught in this trap. Otherwise, is OK product as far as I can tell.

I like Kaspersky I have used a older version so I am upgrading to there latest version. It scans fast it finds viruses,malware,spyware,Trojan,Spam. I purchased the 3-user version (free after rebate) for my son's HP laptop that has Windows Vista 32-bit for the operating system and my desktop that has Windows XP. It installed perfectly on both PCs with NO problems, we were using Kapersky 2008. If you are using Norton (Symantic) or a different brand make sure that whatever brand you're using is completely uninstalled before installing Kaspersky or a different brand of software if you are switching brands. Norton, for example doesn't completely uninstall and Norton (Symantic) has an uninstaller utility on it's webstite that a person can use to completely uninstall it.

I don't use the email filter because my ISP has an excellent spam filter.

I recently purchased the new Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 from Amazon after doing research of Security programs. It is highly rated by many companies.

Unfortunately, nowhere it the advertisements for Kaspersky Security, does it tell you the program originates in Russia. Nor does it provide any information as to where there are any support offices in the United States.

I tried installing the program, which deleted the Norton 360 security program I had been using. After the installation, I could not access the Internet and had no way of contacting Kaspersky for assistants.

Per the instructions with the program, which sates, "if you cannot access the Internet after installation, contact your internet provider."

I contacted Verizon and the support person spent well over an hour to try and get me back on the net, without success. This left me with one option, remove Kaspersky and have Verizon install their security program.

Later, I try to find a regional office for Kaspersky, so that I could return the program. I found an office in Woburn, Massachusetts and explained the problem.

Since I purchased the program from Amazon, there was nothing they could do. Having opened the program to install it, I cannot return it to Amazon, so I am stuck with the program.

This may be a perfectly good program if you do not have Norton installed on your computer; but I cannot judge it.

I have mixed feelings on any voice recognition software. If I knew how to type properly instead of the hunt and peck method I use I wouldn't have any need for this product. I don't use it all that often but when I do it comes in incredibly handy. For example I am using this now to dictate this review. I've had to stop twice now to correct a mistake. Some of that could be caused by the fact I have the Moody blues running in the background on my stereo.

I purchased Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 to replace version 9. That goes to show how much I like the software. One of the reasons I wanted to replace version 9 was it was quite buggy. Sometimes it would crash for no apparent reason, other times the accuracy didn't seem that great. It also was quite a resource hog, but then again so is version 10. However I have a pretty good computer with a quad four processor, and three gigs of RAM so it doesn't really pose a problem. Generally when I'm not using it I shut it off anyway.

I have noticed however that the accuracy and stability is a lot better than version 9. A lot of the quirkiness maybe due to the complexity of the program. It is a full-featured program albeit with a user-friendly interface. As time goes by I will try tweaking the program a little more.

I cannot comment on the included headset that comes with the software. I am still using my trusty Telex USB headset. I've had this thing for years and it works great so why change.

In conclusion all I can say is I'm happy with the software. It is very functional, a step up from version 9, and a lifesaver for those that are typing challenged. It does require some effort on the users part, but then again so do most things that are worthwhile. I would definitely have given it a five star rating if not due to the quirkiness. In all fairness however a lot of that can be blamed on the operator. Compared to previous versions it is definitely a five.

Make sure you know if your computer is 64bit because this will not work on it if so. i wasted $70 on this and it is useless until the company decides to fix this. from the message boards i've found it doesn't look like they will soon.

I purchase it for My Student Grandson and He was unable to use it on His new Dell Laptop . Because this product only operate on a 32 bit processor and My Grandson new Laptop operate on 64 bit processor. Why would a product be on the market without a patch/update to be used on computers of the present generation?My Grandson contacted the manufacture (Dragon) and they were unable to help Him at this time.what a big DISAPPOINTMENT.

This is not for the product, which I can't install, but for the lousy support--I'll never by another nuance/scansoft product again! I can't install the program because I want to put it on a computer that does not have an internet hook up. Hey, you guys at Nuance/Scansoft, Not Every Computer Has an Internet Hook-up! Once you own the product and go to the support site to activate it (on a different computer), THEN you see that you need the hook-up, but the product does not mention this little fact anywhere else. You only learn after you buy it.
I could talk to someone about this (for a charge!) I could e-mail customer support and get an answer (for a charge!) How about this: I already paid you guys for the product! Why should I then be charged again because I want to use it?
Companies like this do not believe they need to provide assistance to their customers. I only hope that people will stop buying their products and rewarding them for screwing us all over.

I teach online college courses, and I was eager to find voice recognition software that works and would cut down on my time in the virtual classroom. I'd been reading all about Naturally Speaking Preferred 10 for some time, but I was afraid of it because of some of the reviews I'd read, even though I have two colleagues who use it and praise it. But, today, I bit the bullet and bought it along with a comfortable headset, and when I loaded it, it went just as planned and I was trained and dictating within the hour. It's fabulous, and I'm sure it will be a huge time saver for me. It's too bad for those who tout this software as "useless" and "unworthy" because I find it wonderful. It's definitely a keeper for me, and I recommend it highly.

Did not know if this would work for me replacing version 9 but this version went back to my document files and learned all the medical terms in all my dictations obviating the need to spend $1200 for the Medical version. It is much smoother than 9 , makes fewer mistakes requiring correction but still requires proof reading. Recommend for all medical offices and works well in my Medical Oncology practice.

I love this software. It was quick and easy to train. After about 40 minutes it was ready to use, and it continues to learn and get even more accurate. I am still learning commands to toggle between programs. I would recommend this product to anyone who can't type as fast as they speak.

Bought it direct from Microsoft and downloaded for $29.99. Worked great for about a month, then just shut down. The Windows firewall turned off and wouldn't turn back on. Couldn't bring up OneCare at all. Logged onto Microsoft's website to troubleshoot. Among all the "cures" I was advised to try the last was to uninstall and then reinstall. Uninstalled as instructed and when I went to download it was asked to pay for it again. Duh! When I called Microsoft the tech said in very nice tones, "Toughh" I've downloaded Free Avast and it works just fine. That tore it with Microsoft for me. Next computer: Probably Apple.

I am a computer professional and many of the problems we resolve for hundreds of dollars would be fixed or prevented by MS Windows Live OneCare 2.0. People who have virus infected computers that I have recommended this too have just install OneCare were back to normal in a day or so.

We have used Norton and CA products. Both were huge resource hogs. Our computers run much faster with Kaspersky AV than Norton or CA. We are very happy.

From the moment this software downloaded onto my computer I've had nothing but problems. No phone # available on package, left message with their online service-which they promised via email to respond to within 48 hours, I am still waiting. I uninstalled it after 8 days and loaded McAfee, most problems resolved. Kaspersky is so arrogant they think they don't need to REALLY provide support because their product is perfect. I have a new rule, no support phone # on the box, no purchase.....and I may even call the number, before purchasing....to see if they really answer. This Anti-virus may work for some but you better not need help from Kaspersky.

I've tried pretty much every major retail (and some not retail) versions of anti-virus software. Kaspersky AV is right in the middle of the pack. There were several installation issues and some fairly disappointing software compatibility issues. I wanted to run a different firewall and K-AV is incompatibile with it. The software was installed on a completely fresh windows install and there were installation/compatibility issues. Technical support was able to solve them fairly quickly through some patches and software removal tools. I have some concerns that a novice computer user would not be able to get to the point of a working installation. I had to know a few pretty technical issues to be able to work with the tech support folks.

If I am in the market again for A-V software, I'll shop around. Don't believe everything you read on CNET or PCMAG etc. I had better experience with Norton (despite its impact on system performance). Bit Defender is another option that I'd rate at about equal if not slightly better than KAV.

I'm sure this product is fine IF it actually works! Upon inserting the CD, I received an error message saying that some EXE file was missing. That was just the start of the problems! I tried multiple times to get on-line help from their live chat and never made it past #5 in the queue. Even when I got in the queue at the start of business, I never got anyone to come on-line with me by the end of business! Several emails sent to their "help desk" for different problems resulted in identical responses, which didn't fix them. The technical support option on their phone support only directed me back to their on-line live chat and then went to a busy signal. Perhaps the product itself is good if the software isn't faulty, however the customer service and technical support IS ABSOLUTELY ABOMINABLE!!!

$I had been using Norton's Ghost for years on my old system. When I got a new computer I found out that Ghost was redone with new code and had bad reviews for being unable to restore the system partition. I tried Paragon's Disk Management Suite 9.0, only to have my hard drive wiped clean when a restore of the system partition locked up right in the middle of the restore. That's when I tried Acronis True Image Home 2009. Right after I installed Acronis, I let it find and install the newest version online. I then made a bootable restore disk which is simple to do. You just select this option in the menu, select your CD or DVD writable drive and it makes the disk for you. I then selected the option to restore the system disk with the boot sector. It took 35 minutes to create an image of my system partition which was drive C:\ (I had 35 GB of data on the drive) It was easy to use. I was using an external 500GB USB drive for the backup. The software automatically found this drive and selected it for the backup image. After removing some programs from my system partition, I put in the bootable restore disk and re-imaged my system drive and boot sector from the back up image. There was one place where the software asks you to select the destination disk but the choices took a couple minutes to appear. Once it appeared I selected my original drive and started the backup. This took the same amount of time as making the image. (35 minutes) I took out the bootable disk and restarted my computer and everything was restored. If this software didn't do anything else I'd still be happy. Because with out a quick system restore like this, re-installing all the software, updates, drivers and settings on a hosed system can take all day instead of 35 minutes. The one thing that I was sure to do is uncheck the feature that would automatically make a new image every week. I was not sure if it overwrites the original or makes a new file name. As far as just backing up files without the OS. I don't really care because Vista Home Premium already has a decent backup system built into the OS.$ 5stars - "Reliable back up of System Partition and boot sector!" (John Kane)

I am using Windows Vista Premium 64-bit. NOTE: The FREE TRIAL bootable disc clone function is disabled. I was able to create the bootable CD but it would not clone. The Windows version got hung up when trying to clone a 640GB hard drive. The drives were identical (same make, model & size). BE CAREFUL when selecting source and destination drives. The drives do not display in the same order each time you run the software. The bootable version display has even less information to help determine which drive is which. This is only a problem if you have two or more drives that are the same size. I created a bootable CD-R but that did not work because I had removed the SATA DVD drive and replaced it with two Plextor IDE drives (w/PCI card). I added the SATA DVD drive back in and got the bootable CD to work. The clone was successful using the bootable CD. Before I did that I also tried to create bootable removable media. That did not work but I did not figure out why. I changed the BIOS setting first, to boot from removable media, but that did not cure the problem. I used this software for cloning only and did not test any other functions. I prefer GoodSync for backup & restore. Note that the free Maxtor MaxBlast software appears to be the same as Acronis TrueImage for hard drive setup but it will only work if you have at least one Maxtor or Seagate drive installed.

I upgraded from Acronis True Image 8.0 to Home 2009 recently.

And then I encountered a hard drive crash.

I reinstalled everything on a new hard drive, and used Acronis 2009 successfully to back up the hard drive several times.

I tested out the recovery as well, as I installed SQL server and had a problem with it. So I reverted to a previous Acronis image and it worked perfectly.

I also have the Acronis secure zone on my XP system, and it works flawlessly as well.

Overall I am very happy with Acronis and the functionality it has provided.

Acronis True Image Home 2009 is an excellent backup & recovery system for PC's. Unfortunately at least 90% of the people who have computers would not be able to or not have the time to figure out how to use the best features of the program.
I had an old computer with Windows XP so I decided to test True Image on it by creating an image of the entire internal hard drive on an external hard drive. Then using True Image I erased important Windows files so that the computer would not restart. Creating the image on the external drive was very easy but it took me all day to figure out how to get it back on the internal hard drive.
When Windows won't start you simply put the original Acronis CD in the CD drive on your computer. Since it is a bootable CD restarting the computer boots up the Acronis operating system and True Image starts up. The only problem is without Windows, True Image can't find your external hard drive or any back up files.
The complicated solution is to re-install Windows as it originally was when you purchased your computer (hopefully you have a Windows CD for that and you know how to do it). Then you re-install True Image on the operating Windows computer. Then you start True Image and if you can figure out the confusing procedures True Image will shut down your computer, restart itself from the Acronis bootable CD that you hopefully left in your CD drive, erase your entire hard drive, and reload the backup image that you have on your external hard drive. This actually works perfectly.
Now, a few weeks later, I find out that there is an add-on program on the Acronis bootable CD. If you use that you can make another bootable CD that apparently is capable of finding backup files on an external hard drive without Windows. Trouble is I got rid of my old computer and I'm not about to erase Windows files on my new one to see how well it works.

4stars - "Hard to Restore Disk Images" (Michael Peplinski)

There is little to like and a lot to dislike about this program. It insists on making you operate its way, and tries to force you to schedule everything, schedule, schedule, schedule. "Do it our way, and do it when we damned well tell you to do it."

For example, when you just want to do a quick backup, it has all sorts of calender nonsense, even though it's just a backup. It won't use your name for the backup, so you end up with backup1, backup2, backup3, etc., with no easy clue as to when it was made and what is in the backup. It does not have conventional menus to get you where you need to go, you have to fumble around and try to find something that looks like it might be what you want. But few of the usual options are available. In other words, the programmers are so convinced that you are stupid and have no idea what you want, that they have made it essentially useless.

There there is the fact that it takes up a whopping 123 mb on your disk, and forces you to load a "service" that runs all the time, slowing down and clogging up your machine (and perhaps conflicting with a program you really need). Yet another program by programmers who apparently believe that your only purpose in having a computer is running their "wonderful" software.

My son has a previous version of this software that I've used on his machine, and although I didn't like it much, at least it was functional. I can't say the same about 2009.

I've uninstalled it, I haven't decided whether to throw it away or donate it. It's certainly not something I'm willing to use.
