Reader Rabbit has been around for a long time and it is a truly wonderful system to help children improve their reading skills. What could be better than playing a game while you learn? I used it when my children were growing up and now I'm providing Reader Rabbit for my granddaughter to help her retain and improve her reading skills over the summer. It is a win-win situation for the parent and the child. The game is plug and play so your child can play without your assistance.

I bought this game which states it works with Apple OSX when fact that it only works in 'classic' (OS 9) on the Mac OS. I had to install OS9 on a secondary hard drive to get this to work and it only works marginally at best. It's slow and often produces an "Out of Memory" Error even though I've got about 288MB of RAM on my system. I have no idea why don't make a true OSX version, since it's been out for 7 years now! My son does seem to like the games on here, but most Apple equipment can't even run OS9 now so it's almost worthless. Not recommended for OSX users.

We ordered this for our four year old daughter and, while it is probably a bit above her level (she is not reading yet but is beginning to sound out letters, etc. and when we read to her she will point out letters that she recognizes...but has not yet began to recognize entire words), it is a wonderful program!

It allows you to choose at which level you want to begin, or play. The characters are interesting and their speech is well enunciated. The content is entirely age appropriate and innocent - which is rare in this day and age.

The directions are very clear and I imagine if I set aside time every day to use this program, our daughter will be reading by age five.

We own other Reader Rabbit CDs and they are all wonderful...I would strongly recommend these products for children ages three to six.

There are a few puzzles in this game that don't provide enough information to solve. Other puzzles are way too difficult even for my very advanced 9-year-old - they were challenging even for me. I recommend looking elsewhere.

It's advertised as running on "Windows NT / 98 / 2000 / Me / 95, Macintosh, Linux, Unix." In fact it comes with no Linux version, nor any means to download it, and the publisher's web site indicates that no Linux version exists. The support web site listed on the jewel case indicates it doesn't run on any OS made in the last 10 years, only MacOS 7.1 (PowerPC), Windows 95, and Windows 98:

However The Learning Company (Broderbund) web site gives general advice for running old softare on Windows Vista: [...]

I followed their instructions to set the program to run in administrator mode. I removed the start menu shortcut made by the installer, which pointed back to the installation program on CD. Instead I navigated to the actual executable program under "Program Files" and made a desktop shortcut to that. With that, it runs fine under Vista and so far seems to be a very good game. My son has one complaint about the game, that if you make a mistake you have to start all over again, instead of keeping the clues you already found by solving earlier puzzles.

My overall rating is 4 stars for the game itself, 1 star for compatibility, and 0 stars for false advertising.

Cluefinders Math Adventures Ages 9-12 w/ ADAPT I wasn't sure about buying Cluefinders as I didn't know anyone who had used it. I bought it and am I glad I did! It is helping my kids, ages 11 and 12 1/2, really stay fresh on their math skills over the summer. It is challenging because as they complete one level/round, the math gets harder. They also have to carefully read and follow clues and have to think. No monkey see, monkey do, but really think. Absolutely recommend this to anyone whose kid needs fun with math to get them interested in math, keep skills fresh, or to stretch their thinking and knowledge. Best of all, my kids love playing it and will play this game above others.

My 9 year old received this as a gift and wasn't excited to use it until we started playing. It was so much fun that she didn't want to stop until she was done and found the treasure. This took about 2 1/2 hours but it was interactive and educational. I liked how the searched items on the screen changed color after they found the item. She only had me help her with a few items that were even challenging me to find. After about an hour she didn't ask me for help again and had it figured out. If I had to make any change it would be that the help "?" gives them clues to which item they are missing. It really doesn't help at all. Other then that a game well worth spending time and money on. I Spy Treasure Hunt

This is the 3rd I Spy I have bought for my granddaugher, who is 7 yrs old. When all else fails to entertain, we go to the computer and challenge one another in finding the hidden objects. Not always an easy job, but a lot of fun. It has helped with her reading skills and her observation skills.

I've had this I Spy for a long time. I played it a lot and had a lot of fun, and I still like to play it once in a while. My favorite level is "Block City After the Paper Hurricane". I like it because it's the most challenging level of all of the Block Cities, and I like challenges! My Mom thinks the I Spy books and computer games are a great value for the money, because my friends and I play them over and over, and the images are spectacular!

Please use caution when purchasing this product. It is labeled Windows XP Compatible, but it is not. You have to reconfigure your entire system to get the software to work. Once you change your settings, then the software is great and my son loves it. I wish I could explain what you have to do to your computer to get School Days to work, but I had to consult with my brother who is a computer technician...I followed his instructions which were very complicated. He even had to search on google to find out how to fix the error message that kept popping up every time we tried to play it.

My 4 year old loves this game and I don't feel bad if she sits and does it for a while because it is educational as well. I was worried that it may be too hard for her since she is under the recommended age but she has not had a problem with it at all. In fact, she has discovered things on it that we didn't even know about.

I got this game for my five year old to play with his 7 year old friend. I love the I Spy DVD games - the kids really enjoy the riddles and trying to find all the hidden objects, my son is getting better at reading the clues, and both kids had a great time in the disgusting kitchen of the mansion making the Shrinking Soup. Awesome learning tool for kids and really fun for adults too (who are often asked to help when that one darned thing is TOO well hidden!)

My daughter loves the Animal Field Trip game and the Arts and Crafts game. The Fundamentals game isn't as interesting for her - but it is probably a bit over her head (she is only 3). The Pet Playground game is horrible! There are only 2 games available - you have to play them many times just to buy a pet and then many more times to buy anything more for your pet (such as food, grooming supplies, etc). Plus, several areas of the game are locked out unless you have "Jump Start World" which costs up to $90! There is no warning or infomation on the box that implies that any additional purchases are needed to play the full game. I guess the 3 working discs we received were worth the $15 we paid.

This was a gift for my now 6 year-old when she was 4. She played it for many hours by herself before showing my 4 year-old how to play. Now it is one of his favorites as well. Because of games like this both of my kids are very skilled in following computer instructions, maneuvreing around a game and utilising fine motor skills to control he mouse. I have never had a bad experience with JumpStart software. We have used JumpStart Baby, Advanced Preschool, Advanced Kindergarten and Animal Adventures.

When my 5 year old is playing this game all of her siblings gather around to watch. They really like this game. The concepts are well presented and the learning is fun. I really like that even if they miss and pick the wrong answer the game lets them try again. We have had this game almost a year and my children still love it. It does a great job with addition, counting, colors, recognizing patterns, spelling, sounding out simple words, story ordering and it is just fun.

My sister was the first in the family to buy all her children all the Jumpstart's. She then recommended it to me for my daughter. This series is brilliant. My daughter is the type of child that will sit on that computer figuring out the game until she wins it. Her thought process as revealed to me is if she completes all the games she will move up to the 2nd Grade level. What more could a parent want? My sister-in-law bought my daughter Learning Rabbit at 2 years of age and she played that one until she was 3. At 3, she bought my daughter the Kindergarten Jumpstart. This month, I bought my daughter the 1st Grade Jumpstart. My daughter is way ahead of the game because she is only 5. These games support her learning in school and keep her uptodate on all her PC skills during the summer break. The program is easy to learn. It does not require a parent to teach the skills.

My daughter enjoyed it very much, but reached the adventure goal in about a week. She'll play it again, but it's not as captivating for her now. The level of difficulty of the educational part of the adventure did not seem to progress as well (i.e., as widely) as their 3rd grade adventure.

My nine year old son loved this CD! He would play this CD for an hour or more and beg for more time with it. It's a very interesting program and has very comprehensive material. I was impressed with the reading material and language skill activities. I thought this CD was appropriately labeled for 4th grade. The material centers around archaology and science, and an adventure in ancient Egyptian hyrogliphs. My only complaint was that it's not a long program. My nine year old was disappointed when he finished the CD because he wanted there to more levels. I think he completed the whole CD within a week, however, when he did play it, it was for lengthy intervals.

$This is excellent learning software. My child got it when she was in 2nd grade and it was a serious challenge. Now that she is in 4th grade, it is too easy, but she still loves to go thru it. It really is good and useful for her development, both in reading and math. One thing that is great about it is that it is not just a glorified multiple choice exam as far too software programs are: she has to spell, do fractions, and the like. This is a great software! I bought this in June 2000. I didn't get some of it. Now I got older and smarter. And understand this better! The location is better. Egypt is very ancient. I also did these other ClueFinders software, 3rd Grade, 5th Grade, 6th Grade, Math, Reading, Search & Solve, Incredible Toy Store Adventure!, and the second CD-Rom Mystery Mansion Arcade!And I'm not even in 4th, 5th or 6th.

$This is a great program. I got it for my 3rd grade daughter and we both thought it was a lot of fun. It covers areas such as fractions, logic, sentence structure and geography. You have to collect different items that let you progress through the games. This is all done by completing the various puzzles and activities. The game progresses like an adventure story. You have to complete one activity before having the option to go on to others. She used the various JumpStart and Reader Rabbit programs when she was younger, and I wanted something fun to teach those basic skills now that she's older. This is JUST what I was looking for. I love all of the "I SPY" books and games that I've read or played with. It is a wonderful way for a grandchild and their grandma to spend some fun time together. My 8 year old grandson gave me his "I SPY Treasure Hunt" because it would not work in his new computer. I just bought "I SPY Fantasy" and gave it to my 4 year old grandson for his birthday and he LOVES it. There are 3 different places for them to search and explore. He just can't get enough of the castle part of the game. His imagination runs wild as he collects the keys to defeat the dragon and rescue the princess! There is also an underwater adventure to find the mermaids' jewels and a space adventure. It's fun for anyone aged 4(depending on the childs' capability in using a computer) till 104!

My five year old got this for christmas and she absolutely loves it. It's colorful and playful format keeps her engaged for quite a while. Even now, two months later, she still loves this program. This is one of our favorite jump start programs. I was not sure who likes it the best: my eight year old, the five year old who has all ready build an amusement park.(you earn parts for this as you play), grandma(she bought this one), or me who was able to create my very own piture that as became my wall paper. This art program was bought for my five year old who is into scrapebooking with grandma. There are some sections that I find somewhat hard like the make a quilt. There are other sections that are for everyone in the house to do like make your own piture or Frankie's tent where you can make pitures that will go into a story/song/movie that is where most of our ride piece have come from. There is a tent that your child will learn about shapes and mixing paints. You also will learn difern kinds of art and even a mini game where you play with CJ and Edison. My age range 4 to 100.

5stars - "more that a kids software" (ihjaevasquez)

My son really liked this artist program. We first rented it from the library, and then he liked it so well we bought it. This program is different from a lot of the other artist programs out there becaue it teaches art fundamentals (i.e. what is texture, introduces kids to the color wheel, asks kids to re-create a pictures that are already drawn by causing them to match patterns, introduces them to mixing colors, etc.) It has a movie area where the pre-drawn pictures you color come to life in a movie.It teaches foreign language. One of the movies is about a pinata, and it teaches the Spanish words for big and small. It is extremely enjoyable for preschoolers (age 4), yet it is complex enough that a young grade school child would not think it was too easy or too young for them.

5stars - "Fun, entertaining, different"

I bought this for my daughter when she was 4. She is now 5. From the start this was one of her favorites and she still plays with it once or twice a week. She likes the colors and textures and variety. I like the fact that it is a creative toy that captures her imagination and it does not contain people or situations that I feel are inappropriate for small children.
**Edit - My younger daughter now has this program and it is one of her favoirtes too. Even though newer material is available to her she uses this CD as much as her older sister did!

My girls (ages 5 & 3) have enjoyed all of the 'I SPY' titles for the past 6 months. I thought it might be too difficult since the age range is alot higher, but they can get thru it without any problems. Occassionally they need help finding a single item but otherwise manage on their own. Even my 3 yr old can get it started and play alone with minimal help.

My husband and I enjoy playing the games with the kids as well and some items can be very difficult to find, lol.

It's a game for the whole family to enjoy.

4stars - "great for preschoolers too!" (mom2serena)

We have both "I Spy Fantasy" and "I Spy Spooky Mansion" and the kids like both of them. I have run them an iMac (video chip: Radeon X1600), and MacBook (video: GMA 950 chipset), 2 MacMinis (GMA 950) and am TRYING TO RUN IT on a recent MacBook (video: GMA X3100). All systems are Intel Core 2 Duo's running Leopard. The problem seems to be with the current version of Leopard 10.5.4 and the X3100 does not support the "thousands of colors" option that this game will require. Until Apple corrects this problem with the driver, I don't think this game will work with the current generation of MacBooks or MacAir notebooks.

I bought a new MacBook last week for my daughter to use and she really wants to run the "I Spy" games. Since I can't get them to run, I may have to return this notebook until Apple corrects the problem.

But if you have the right hardware, I highly recommend these games. They keep our kids (ages 4 - 11) busy.

Spooky but not scary - just the way little ones like it to be. Fun for kids and educational at the same time - teaches them to observe and teaches new words as they hunt for unfamiliar, perhaps, objects. Even my 3 year old grandson enjoys this.

I purchased this item for my grandchildren (ages 10 through 5). I played it first so that I would be able to answer any questions that they might have. A couple of the puzzles stumped me at first but, over all, this is a wonderful game! Fun graphics. "Create a Ghost" is really fun. Very kid friendly, and Grandma friendly also!
