After purchasing and installing Norton Internet Security, all intrusions are blocked successfully. Recent info-stealer viruses which infect especially USB drives are also successfully located and killed. Online help is also designed efficiently for solving user problems. I highly recommend this product as an anti-virus and internet security tool.

My PC has a 2.2g duel core intel processor with 2g RAM (any of you folks out there who still has less than 1 g of ram, or still using single core, please, stop complaining abt new softwares slowing down your PC and get real!). I was using NIS 2006 previously on this PC. Recently, the subscription for NIS 2006 ran out so I uninstalled it (which went without a glitch!!!! yes, I just used the normal "do it from the control panel method"!). Then I loaded in NIS 2008. Man! My boot up actually speeded up! I know some of you folks have all kinds of complain but I don't see this at all! Who says this product slow down you PC? I think it only slow down those PC who doesn't have the processing power in the first place.

WARNING to anyone thinking about buying this product! Please understand that you will not be buying this product only RENTING it. If you do not renew every year the product stops working....COMPLETELY! I'm not just talking about updates, etc. It actually tells you that it has stopped working and it won't work unless you renew. I have just wasted more than 2 hours with Norton's online tech support. This is the case with ALL Norton products and I am quoting the tech.

I'd say their support was bad but it was NONEXISTENT! 3 unanswered emails and 45 min. on hold before I hung up. Web based support cases get automatically 'CLOSED' with no more than an automated response 'check our support links'. BAD, BAD, BAD.

I used Norton on my first computer back in 2000. It was ok. It did its job by protecting my computer from spyware and viruses. However, it did crash my computer once in a while (not good when finishing a report!), and it sometimes made my computer performance slow. When I bought my new computer in 2005, I saw the original Spysweeper (without antivirus) on sale for $5.00, and I decided to give it a try.

I'm so glad I switched. I originally signed up for the one year subscription, and it has done a great job protecting my computer from all kinds of spyware stuff that I didn't know existed. Best of all, it does not crash or slow up my computer. When my one year subscription was up in 2006, the antivirus came out with spysweeper, and it is even better.

Since then, I've had no problems with any viruses or spy cookies on my computer. I just run a sweep every week, and it eliminates all that stuff from my computer with ease. For you info: I'm running Windows XP (2nd pack).

I will not consider another antispyware and antivirus software. This product is worth the price. Webroot will give you a discount if you're a continued subscriber. Just a side note: If you're having problems with it running updates while you're online doing something important, you can either set the updates to run with your connection speed (dial-up vs. DSL), or you can just turn it off completely. However, I don't recommend turning it off for very long, as it constantly keeps up with current spyware and virus definitions coming out everyday.

My experience with the webroot package began about 6 months ago when Norton began hanging (failing to finish its scans) on a Windows XP and a Windows Vista computer. I first installed the webroot product on the Windows XP machine and noticed that it always took between 5 - 10 minutes to boot the software up. After several discussions with webroot personnel, I came to the conclusion that this software simply must have a minimum of 1 Gb memory to work properly (the XP machine only had 512K). After upgrading the system memory, there were no further problems. The webroot software worked fine on the Vista machines from the start because they already had sufficient memory.

What you get for your trouble is a very powerful antivirus + anti-spyware combination that is much more adept at finding and eliminating threats than Norton ever was. It is also the first package I've used that effectively stops homepage highjacking, even from the dreaded msn and runonce issues. Just specify the homepage you want in the antivirus program, then in your web browser, reboot, and the problem is gone.

The key here is that you must have 1 Gb of memory for this software to work properly, so if you don't have a full gig or you don't know how much you have, go to [...] where you can scan your computer to see what you have and buy additional memory if needed.

I have now installed this software on 7 computers (3 Vista, 4 XP) and it works great every time. All 4 XP machines required memory upgrades.

I set up a new workstation for my wife for light computing only, and I needed at least some protection for the system, so I bought this package because I already have experience with the Webroot Spysweeper product. I was happy to find the spy sweeping and virus protection in one package.

I set up a 2003 era Windows XP machine from scratch, installed this product, and it works fine. If this product adds to the boot-up time for my computer, I sure can't tell.

I don't know if there is a single perfect computer security tool. Most every one has those who swear by it and those who swear at it. I wore myself out one evening reading all sorts of reviews for anti-virus products, and finally decided to buy this one. So far so good.

If you like to turn on your computer, have all your programs load immediately, and then wait another 2-4 minutes for this antivirus and firewall program to finally figure out it also needs to load - then this is your program! Then add another 2-3 min for it to actually complete downloading - All the time telling you to wait 1 minute - (which in reality takes 2-3 minutes).
I was told by customer service the reason it takes so long to even begin loading upon turn on, is that "it is probably scanning the hard drive"
Excuse me! But Norton and PCcillin never scanned before loading!
Oh - if you happened to make the mistake of checking the box to update downloads automatically, you should know it decides to do that job at random whenever it decides it wants to! Usually when your in the middle of entering a market order, or entering a number in a spread sheet. The computer freezes until it finishes its slow, slow, slow update!
Please, please, look for something else. Norton and PCcillin was never this bad.

Installed this on my desktop about six months ago. It seemed to be working fine, but then suddenly could not connect to the interent. Checked with ATT, my DSL and router are working fine. So I brought my laptop home from work and it connected right up. My brother checked it out and said I've got some kind of malware issue blocking me from the internet server. Cannot get anyone from bitdefender to pick up the phone. I've held twice for over an hour, once for 20min, once for 30min, no one ever picked up the phone!!! Tried live chat support from my laptop; typed in my question, clicked chat, nothing ever happened!!! BEWARE!!! THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE STINKS!!!

I bought Bitdefender after seeing some good reviews on the internet. While it may be that my computer is five years old or some other factor, it was working perfectly all right; I just wanted antivirus different from Norton. Then, I installed Bitdefender on Sunday and immediately it started interacting negatively with Outlook Express. Tuesday the computer crashed, moving into a system recovery mode. I lost all software that I had installed, but fortunately my data was saved. While I could be wrong, I don't think it is a coincidence that my computer crashed two days after installing Bitdefender.

Over the past few years, I have tried several anti-virus (AV) and internet security (IS) packages. I have tried Zone Alarm, Panda, Trend Micro and others. I believe that any are generally adequate and trusworthy, but a site search (and my own experience) will often reveal that BitDefender (BD) AV and IS products give the best balance of protection, system demands and cost. I have been very happy with both the older BD AV Plus and the more current BD Internet Security 2008, especially when one considers the relatively low annual cost of ownership.

I have used many different AntiVirus, AntiSpam and Internet Security products and BitDefender is the best I have used so far. The installation went well and the config wizards made it easy to get up-and-running quickly. It works more transparently than others (NAV and Kaspersky). Any time a program wants to access the net, a window pops saying a rule is created or asks me if I want to allow it. I do this once and it's done! If I install a USB drive, it immediately gives me the option for virus scan. their are multiple levels of scan and all can be scheduled. Any problems that cannot be resolved can be easily identified through the logfiles and can be manually deleted. And for this price for 2 years coverage for three PCs, you just can't beat it!!

Unfortunately this is the 2nd Bitdefender I'm using. It interferes with other programs. I prefer to watch DVD's that I copy onto my hard drive since the actual DVD's if watched from running in the DVD drive get very hot and will ruin them in a short time as well as wear out the DVD drive.
Bitdefender will often destroy the copy onto my hard drive. If I completely disable bitdefender prior to the copy I don't have this problem, BUT I often can't open the DVD drawer after disabling Bitdefender. I've all but taken a sledgehammer to my computer thanks to Bitdefender! Also if I burn a CD or DVD with BitDefender disabled, my computer completely locks up - I can't even restart or Shut Down. Disabling BitDefender is torturously difficult. DON'T BUY!!!

To be honest, my computer wasn't useless while I tried running this but it was unable to do basic tasks like burning data to a CD (wouldn't work with either Roxio or Nero). Trying to do so would freeze the computer up to the point that after a couple hours I would have to unplug the machine to get it to shut down. Bitdefender's support staff listened to my problems and were only able to tell me that they would fix the problem in a future version. And to top it off I managed to get 2 different malware programs on my computer while running this. A waste of money.

I've used Total Security 2008 on two computers for over three months. I never know what it's going to do next. I was working recently when systray status icon and the File and Network activity indicators quit and then stopped working. I couldn't tell whether it was still working or whether the computer was still protected. I rebooted. Within a week, the same thing happened to my son's computer.

I still don't understand all the security messages that pop up constantly. I switched to Bit Defender after using Norton for years. Norton just seemed to slow down my computers. However, Bit Defender seems to be a bigger distraction. I installed Norton IS 2009 on my new computer and don't notice it's there, so I'll probably replace the Bit Defender with Norton, since Norton is cheap on Amazon and Bit Defender was free with the rebate (I hate to loose a two year subscription, but I'm loosing a headache, too.)

Also if you have a rebate, make sure you pester them. I waited 10 weeks before calling and they brushed me off. I decided I'd call back periodically to remind them that it was overdue. I finally got someone to "escalate" it and the rebate came two days later, 3 months of waiting.

2stars - "Only understandable to pros." (Mr Health Insurance)

After setting up the software on each of the PC's in my home-office LAN, I was pleasantly surprised that the firewall ruleset(s) were fairly automatic and the other sections were easily tune-able as well. The really nice feature (for me) was the ability to automate backup to my NAS (LaCie) device. The software allows for a mix of full and incremental backups with a settable number of backup files to keep. So, if you want to do a full every month, and augment with incremental every week with 3 fulls and 10 incrementals - you can do that. (That gives you 3 full restore points with a 10-day incremental "window")

The overhead of the processes spawned by bitdefender is very low - and the systray clutter is minimal - just one icon to launch the software, two clicks to update. GOOD DESIGN!

I use layered defenses and this is one layer - but at the price I paid - and the associated features of this product for my whole family? I am super happy with this product.

I found a lot of negative reviews on this site. After checking some other sources and talking to some tech guru friends of mine, I decided to buy the software. It works flawlessly with my office network (single user DSL) and my home network (WiFi with a cable modem ISP). In addition, I have not seen any conflicts with Norton 2004. I love being prompted before my computer "talks" to the internet.

Intially I had a question, which caused me to email customer service. I sent the request around midnight, and I had a reply around 6:30 AM.

After experiencing extreme frustration with Norton Internet Security, I bought this product as a test. I reformatted my hard drive and installed all the factory default drivers and programs, along with Norton Antivirus and Zone Alarm Pro. I have not had a problem since. When first connecting to the Internet you have to specify which programs you want to grant access to. What is very helpful in this software is that you can ask for more information and Zone Alarm will tell you what program is associated with the .exe attempting to gain access, along with a recommendation. Once you have your primary programs configured (and configuration is easy), everything else is seamless. I am very very pleased with the ease of setup and integration of this software with my antivirus program. I would recommend this product any day over Norton's firewall or Internet security programs.

...but the latest versions seem to have gone the same way as Symantec's buggy bloatware. After years as a loyal paying customer, I have uninstalled ZA from all my computers. Agnitum's Outpost Firewall is what I'm using now - and it's been problem-free.The last few versions of ZA have given me nothing but trouble. I couldn't see flash animations on my preferred homepage. I couldn't complete certain transactions online without turning ZA off, completely defeating its purpose. I couldn't read some websites at all, and others loaded slowly, excruciating slowly, even though I have cable and most pages load with lightning speed.

I bought this way back in 2001 after my credit card number was stolen off the net. It worked ok for someone inexperienced with security, but now that I know what to protect against, I found out you can get better firewalls for free. I use Tall Emu's Online Armor. Zone Alarm is another good free one.

And now I read that IBM (who now owns Black Ice) is ending support and updates to Black Ice in Sept 2008. You've been warned! Get another firewall!

I've been using different versions of BlackIce for about 3 years now, and I'm thoroughly satisfied with it, albeit with a couple of mitigatable concerns.

The first concern is the system's defaulted application protection. This should be turned off at all times, as the program will continually spam you with requests to block applications, which include such basic system processes as explorer.exe, rundll.dll, and Windows Media Player. The memory function, which is supposed to help the program learn which programs to block and which to allow, does not work, and never has. Turning this feature off is an absolute must. The other annoying feature, is the yearly subscription this thing requires for its license. I bought the **** thing, let me use it. Fortunately, this is an easy fix.

Black Ice does require a good bit of setup, as you'll have to spend time blocking off ports commonly targetted by hackers, as well as blocking ports and addresses as they are scanned or scan your computer, this does take some time, and I recommend having a second firewall setup while you 'teach' Black Ice.

Without application protection, however, the program runs quickly and smoothly in the task tray, giving you messages on the tray icon for different levels of attack activity. You can also set Black Ice to play a .wav file to alert you. It detects many different types of attacks, such as Subseven port probes, PC Anywhere port probes, syn-ack shenanigans and others, even giving you a rundown of what each attack involves via the web.

All in all, I recommend this program, but only for the computer user who is serious about taking the time to protect their data. This program is not for the faint of heart.

I've been a user of BlackICE Defender for quite some time now. I've used it for many network sercutiry jobs, and businesses in the past. In true tests I've proven to different companies the vulnerabilities of BlackICE vs. the competition. One of the problems is that if you plan on buying this product and you belive you can just throw it onto your HDD, you will come up short with your home/office network. This product takes a bit of configuring with different ports and IP addresses. Once you've done all of this though, you have yourself a VERY good product that will not only block exploit from being run on your computer, it will simply terminate them and erase them in the progress due to it's application protection option.BlackICE is worth every penny....if you know what you're doing with it.

This is a case of tampering with a great product, and fouling it up.The original Black Ice was wonderful. It operated quietly in the background, keeping bad guys at bay. Then they "upgraded it". They made it obtrusive and a nag, interrupting all normal computer use with nagging messages and questions. The problem is, if you set it at the highest security questions, you get nagging messages at every turn. Even if you want to open a game, offline, with broadband disconnected, you get a Black Ice pop-up.To decrease the interruptions, you have to lower the level of security. Not a good trade-off.Then the other day, it just went crazy and seized control of my computer, basically locking me out. No matter what I wanted to do, it shut me down. Kind of like the Matrix. I finally had to reboot and restart in safe mode to uninstall Black Ice. I've gone out and bought a new firewall program.

I've had nothing but problems with this software. After many attempts with customer support, they were unable to help me and simply gave up, saying that the problem, "was with my set-up, not their software." I finally uninstalled the program and threw it away. You are better off using your router's built-in security features.

The product did not work with Parkervision routers, and evidently does not with others as well. The response from OTO software is that they would come up with a solution in a "timely" manner. Three months later an email to them resulted in the reply that they were not going to be doing anything like that at all. A waste of money and time.

I've often bought programs similar to this one and they didn't work much and were a waste. Not this! It's easy, and works! Useful to see the current connections too. They gave the correct list of default passwords for the routers. It works with the Linksys Range Expander and you can Friend/Foe/Unknown that devise. I was worried it would not work w/ my network, spend hours on this, frustation, but none of that! A charm. Highly recommend!

If you want an awesome piece of software to protect your home/small business against wireless intruders this would be it. The software has this very easy to use interface that actually can interface with your wireless router. I don't know how it does it but it is very cool. I have a Dell router and installed the software and it knew I had a Dell router. It prompted me for by admin account and password and presto I have easy security on my network. It shows you in this easy to use inteface who is connnected and allows me to keep them or restrict them. This is a must have security software!!!!

I needed a security suite that would work on a PC running Win ME. Since Microsoft discontinued support for ME, the security suite vendors all seem to have abandoned support for ME also. This version of Zone Alarm works with ME (as well as Win 98SE) and new virus definition updates are still available under the subscription from Zone Alarm. When the ME system was upgraded to Win 2000 Pro, the suite was smart enough to recognize this and download the updates for the program. I have used Zone Alarm Security Suite on a number of computers for more than 3 years and have recommended it to many friends (most of whom were frustrated Symantec/Norton users like me); Zone Alarm has never let any of us down.

When I first received the product and installed it I had a few configuration issues (not unusual) but now, after 8 months of service, they are telling me I need to purchase an upgrade ($69.99) or I will have no virus protection. I contacted Customer Service (what a misnomer) as no one was available to actually speak to me and the automated system was like one of those automated phone loops you enter when trying to contact any company. I finally gave up and an now shopping for a newer and more reliable antivirus and protection system. I did not get a full year of service, got jerked around and have lost all faith in this software package. I wish any other users good luck!

2stars - "Good, for a while, but NO tech support" (A. Reader)

Great software! Until You have a question or a problem that is. Then You get the run around BIG TIME! ZoneAlarm says they didn't sell it to me so they can't help me. They send me to Broderbund for help. Broderbund then sends me to Encore for help and they won't help me either. ZoneAlarm states if I didn't buy it right from ZoneAlarm then they don't give any support.
It comes in a ZoneAlarm box, says ZoneAlarm on the CD but apparently it isn't ZoneAlarm??? (According to ZoneAlarm that is)!!
Buy it elsewhere, or end up helpless!!!

This software installed just fine. Our biggest beef is that we don't know what it's doing behind the scenes. The logs are pitifully thin. On a daily basis, our system "goes to sleep", and we're convinced it's due to ZA doing something behind the scenes. On a number of occasions, the Anti-Virus sweep has kicked off in the middle of a busy day, instead of running at its appointed time of 1:30 AM, when we're asleep. And many of the configuration screens where you can click boxes don't have enough information (for this novice, anyway) to make an informed decision about whether "to check or not to check". It seems to be less intrusive the Norton, but less intuitive, too. We just want to know what it is doing on our behalf, and the logs sure don't tell any stories.

I have used the Zonlabs Firewall for several years. It works fine. I can not say the same for the Security Suite. The AntiSpam function does not update definitions and ZoneLabs Tech Support know they have a problem. They are working on it but no date for a fix.
Do not buy this software until all the bugs are fixed.
