Unfortunately, I purchased this program because of Adobe's reputation. Maybe Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat are great programs, but adobe has really struck out with golive. it has a clunky interface. the ftp browser hangs on me everytime I upload.the interface is not intuitive. when I edit pages, strange glitches occur.Shareware programs are easier to use, although not as feature rich as golive. Most of the experienced web designers I have talked to recommend dreamweaver. it looks like I will have to buy Dreamweaver

If you love photoshop, illustrator, InDesign... you should use GoLive for your webs. Some will say this application is difficult to learn and overburdened with adobe-style tool palettes, and this is fair criticism. If you are a photoshop user and have spent the many hours and weeks it takes to become proficient at using Adobe's GUI, then move to GoLive and you will quickly find yourself at home. If you consider yourself more a designer than coder, and you like designing with Adobe software, then GoLive will let you work the way you like to work. Also, from version 5.0 to 6.0, the coding compatibility has improved, particularly javascript.

THis is the worst of the lot. I had used Adobe's PageMill to make tons of websites but now that I've upgraded everything to OSX on my computer, I thought it would be a good idea to do that with my web design program.Buzz,...big mistake!!Go Live is SO complicated, it's impossible for me to put together a website.I can't seem to figure out anything in this program. I've been long time user of Photoshop, Illustrator and AfterEffects, but GoLive is destined to go in the round file.(wastebasket)Come on Adobe! Put something out there that we can use for web design that doesn't give everyone that uses it a big headache that makes them incapable of producing anything that can be uploaded quickly. Speed is everything! I don't want to spend my life trying to figure out ONE application!!!PLEASE make it simpler!!!!No update purchase for me.

1stars - "A VERY UN-intuitive product!!" (JetPak)

If you're a Mac user I presume you have little interest in unneccessary complexity--and GoLive delivers a level of complexity & difficulty that would make Microsoft proud. If designing web pages is your life this may be what you need. And believe me, it WILL be your life for months after you start using this application. You'll get to know every member of the GoLive support team on a first-name basis.For the rest of us, please, Adobe, make a GoLive Elements program or bring back PageMill.

3stars - "Much too much of a good thing"

The Adobe team has a way of creating complexities for no particular reason. GoLive drowns in its own muli-tier, reverse-logical design. The development team has obviously intended this program to be used by those totally unfamiliar with the concept of straightforward thinking. Every moment using this software is agonizing and frustrating. It boggles the mind to even imagine the possibility of an Adobe team with usability as part of their gameplan. Please stay far away from GoLive.

I bought this package based on a friend's recommendation. Looking back I wish I had saved the money and just bought Dreamweaver. I think they are both great programs, but from my experience you need only need one. If you own Illustrator or Photoshop you can build your graphics there and import them into Dreamweaver. If you don't just buy Fireworks, you can build an entire site and all your graphics in this program.I am a novice at web design, and I wanted to jump right in with setting up a site. I found both of the instructional guides a bit frustrating and overwhelming. I was surprize to find that I even though I had bought the Mac version, the instruction books were cross-platform for both PC and Mac, favoring the PC platform. (A HUGE turn-off for a Mac person like me.)After doing the tutorials I tried to build my site by using both programs. I am mainly a print designer and was thinking that Dreamweaver and Fireworks like I use QuarkXPress and Illustrator, but it doesn't work that way.Like I said before you only need one. I think they are both great programs, but I don't see the need to have both, which is why I gave it a four.

A complete novice in web design, I just spent 4 days developing an 8 page web site with Dreamweaver, which I had never used before. The web site's great, and I love the program. An excellent tutorial guides you through the basic steps, and Macromedia provides a 400+page downloadable reference manual. A bit bulky, and difficult to find what I needed, but the program itself is pretty intuitive, once you've worked through the tutorial. I still haven't figured out how to upload my HTML files using Dreamweaver (as far as I can tell, you're supposed to be able to), which is why I rate this only a 4; otherwise, from uploading graphics and text to layout and links, a user friendly program that will have you on the www in no time at all.

Dreamweaver is well beyond its opponets in web-design, and anybody who designs web pages should have this program! Packing every single tool you would need or ever want to make your website the way you want it, Dreamweaver is easy from the start. Although I'm not an actual owner of Dreamweaver, I have friends who own this product, and every one of them has been blown away bit it, including me. This program is easy to use, and for those who are still using old programs like "Visual Page", I suggest that you upgrade to this program, which you will never regret. Many people still stick with the old fashioned way of making mouse-overs, but Dreamweaver makes it easy, and this can be done in under a minute, without having to spend hours on Java coding. I personally like this program much more then Adobe "GoLive", which are the two leading web-design programs. Make your choice, but I think Dreamweaver is the true program that will make every website look incredible. It's worth the price tag, every cent! The day will come soon when I hope to have the priviledge of owning this program myself.

I started my web page (...) using an online page builder. A good way to start, but not very creative. I then moved up to Adobe PageMill which gave me even more opportunity to design the look I wanted. When I decided on Dreamweaver, it was out of a desire to make my page look even better, and work across platforms. It does the trick.The program is extremely user friendly and easy to learn. Always a good thing when you're dealing with a limited schedule. The FTP interface even makes sure your support files go with the html page. All in all, a must have for the web head in you.

Macromedia must have bought a can of ladybugs and dropped them in the beta tester's brains-I can't believe that they missed some very important bugs-the site map doesn't work, and there is no cross-platform compatibility. Do not buy this. Please look into GoLive by Adobe.

5stars - "Wow!" (A*Teens Girl)

Macromedia's Dreamweaver is the absolute best WYSIWIG web design program available. As with any program, however, you have to know what you're doing in the HTML edit mode... Until all browsers and platforms interpret code the same, we web designers will need to custom-tweak the HTML. (Problems with pages not being truly WYSIWYG when viewed are the result of design/coding errors or platform incompatibilities. Previewing work in multiple browsers/platforms allows you to fix any bugs before anyone ever sees them.)

5stars - "Sheer Brilliance"

Good old Macromedia, they've done it again! Created a brilliant program that does just about anything you could wish...and with the wealth of add-ons available (many are free!), it's just about perfect..BUT...make something on a mac that looks great, and be aware that when viewed on a PC it could very well look terrible ....text moved, way too large, spaces added, images with text over, etc etc...I say buy it and wait for this to be solved, it's still too good to miss.

If you are a startup e-biz I would steer clear of this offering from Macmillan. The product licensure was sold to Macmillan from its original developer "Boomerang Software" over two years ago and Boomerang no longer provides support for the product. Its hosting requirements are rather strict, and I found much of it complicated, particularly for the beginner. Dynamic pages were also VERY difficult to adapt from their pre-set templates. Boomerang designed this product to be used in conjunction with merchant handler "securepay.com". Once you design your e-commerce site using the software, a wizard directs you to apply for a merchant account setup with securepay which costs hundreds of dollars, leaving you with little or no choice to shop around for another, less costly payment gateway. I also found several curious programming errors in the product. The instructional documentation was frought with typos and poorly printed illustrations. My advice would be to save your money, and keep shopping.
