I found this DVD to provide a good stretch. It was slow and boring, though, and not at all a workout. I couldn't even do the whole thing without a break, because I was too bored. I found Shiva Rea's omission of the "h" in exhale annoying, as someone else here mentioned. The 3 different options for modifications was helpful, though for several of the poses, the woman in her 3rd trimester didn't seem to be doing much at all, it was so modified. I'm in my 3rd trimester, but followed the woman in her 2nd with no problems. If you want something really mellow to stretch and relax, this is a good choice. If you really want to exercise and maintain muscle tone during your pregnancy, look elsewhere.

i am a reasonably fit and healthy young woman in my early 20's, and was a regular at my local gym and cycling class for several months before i got pregnant. after i got pregnant and had to take a break from my routine because of horrible all-day-sickness and exhaustion i was looking for something gentle, but still somewhat challenging, to ease me back into a more regular routine again. i picked up this dvd because i thought prenatal yoga would be fun and relaxing. i have never really done yoga before and thought it would be a nice change of pace to learn something new. i am VERY DISAPPOINTED in this dvd...

the instructor has absolutely no personality, and her tone of voice is completely flat and unmotivated. her long-winded introduction that has to be watched before the workout, EVERY TIME, is more irritating every time i hear it, and the terrible voice-over instructions are not even timed correctly. some exercises don't even match up with her instructions! the music is slow, boring, and uninspiring. the poses are far too short, and only a few of them even make me feel like i am doing anything at all! there are too many variations of the "triangle pose", which i am REALLY sick of now; it feels like i just keep doing the same thing over and over again the whole time!

i'm not at all experienced with yoga, but this has got to be one of the most boring, ineffective workouts i've ever tried, and i have done the whole routine beginning to end about six times to be sure i wasn't doing something wrong! when it's over i just want to fold into "child's pose" and go to sleep! i'm looking for something more motivating and challenging! if anyone has any suggestions please let me know!

I borrowed this a few times early on in my second trimester and thought it was boring and too slow, so bought another faster paced pre-natal yoga workout. then when my pregnancy progressed and i started having more aches and pains, the faster dvd was too much, and i went back to shiva rea. Now its definately the right pace for me, and its a good allover workout. I would say its a bit slow for first tri and early second tri, but its great for the second half of second tri and third tri. I think its a great investment and i plan to use right up to my due date and maybe afterwards as well.

My grandson is 2 and loves to listen to this DVD when he goes to sleep. Well, most of the time. It is very soothing and great music!!!! When I received the DVD the case was completely cracked into. I probably should have returned it but I really wanted it to help put him to sleep and the DVD played fine.

This product was recommended to me by my cousin. It has been well worth the $15-and then some. My son loves it-and has loved it since he was 3 months old. He's now 11 months and will still sit & watch it. I actually enjoy watching it myself-it's very intriguing. The music is wonderful-so peppy and spirited. This is our favorite Baby Einstein dvd. I have purchased several as shower gifts for new mom's. Love it!

After swearing that I would adhere to the pediatrician's recommendation to keep my son away from the TV until he was two, I broke down and ordered the oh-so touted Baby Einstein DVD for my 4 month old. After all, I needed time to do things around the house and my son is not a napper.

Well, after 5 minutes of watching the video with my son, I was horribly motion sick and he was completely uninterested. I mean he literally glanced at it 2 or 3 times and promptly looked away. And why wouldn't he? The video is stupid--bad closeups of cheap crap that someone decided would hold the attention of a baby? Backrounded by horrible renditions of classical music classics.

Do yourself a favor, buy a REAL Mozart CD, put it on and click on the Weather Channel. The moving maps and quick graphics hold my son's attention, and show him the states and cities on top of that. He might acutally learn something in that hour rather than be "entertained" by really bad graphics and cheap objects on a black screen.

This video used to be the only one available for pregnant people. I have used it for three pregnancies, including my current one which is a twin pregnancy. The music is elevator Glori Estefan. Denise is a little too perky for the hormonal, the moves are dated and the costumes are ridiculous. That being said, it's great for begining exercisers or off days for those who are too tired for anything more intense. There are some weak toning exercises for the core and lower body after the 20 minute cardio segment. You could always put it on mute and listen to better music!

I used this workout all through my pregnancy, clear up until a couple days before delivery. It was enough of a workout to get the blood pumping, but without raising my heart beat up past what doctors say is safe during pregnancy. Ask your doctor before doing the floor work portion of the workout in the last trimester though. This is a slower paced workout, but really helps keep problems like high blood pressure, weight gain and other pregnancy related problems to a minimum.

The after delivery workout is great too, but if you have a c-section you can't do the exercises. I just did the pregnancy workout after I was cleared to exercise again, and did the bounce back routine after my incision healed.

Following the pregnancy workout is a short relaxation and cool down period. The stretches felt good, but I found this part of the workout to be a bit annoying. I love Denise Austin, but her chatter can get on my nerves sometimes -- especially when I'm 8 months pregnant. :o)

I'd recommend this workout for expectant mothers who want to prevent excessive weight gain, and those who weren't in great shape before becoming pregnant. It can really help boost your energy level.

This tape was good but it is old. The moves were really good and kept me entertained for 30 min. but the music could be better. I paid only a couple bucks so I felt like I got what I paid for, but not too disappointed. I was on 10 weeks of bedrest and wanted to get back into shape after being an avid exerciser. Overall, I thought it was good.

I think this VHS was actually detrimental to my grandson's potty training. The only use he saw for a potty chair like his was a toy bear; all the children in the tape used the big potty and were 4+ it looked like. So, back at square one where he thinks his potty chair is a toy. This VHS might be ok for bigger kids, but even then I would like to see a little less extaneous material, ie, party footage, etc.

This will make you die laughing, my husband and I would actually play it for our friends when they came over! The adults are the biggest dorks and everything is SO corny, but my sons both loved the video. My oldest still washes his hands like they show on the video and he's now 7 years old! Both of my boys were reluctant to use the potty - they never used a training potty, always the big toilet - but after watching this video over and over (and over and over...)they finally were interested. Both boys were fully trained before they were 3, so that worked for us!

This has a great title, but a bad story line. Birthday parties and going to the bathroom don't mix. OK, first off, Katie, the sister of the birthday boy (Bobby, did not have a potty chair to practice on or a potty seat (the mother just got the girl trained). Next, we have Lizzie. Lizzie is about five. I did not like seeing the child pooping on the potty. (Yucky!) The clown was what our family liked the most. There really was no potty training! It was just about potty and a birthday party. I'd suggest Once Upon a Potty for the potty-training video list!

I wish I had this for my oldest son. There is a world of difference in the bathroom etiquette between my 2 boys. The one who learned with the DVD always lifts the lid, puts it back down and also washes his hands. Of course, he has to sing the songs throughout the whole process and I can't get them out of my head, but IT REALLY WORKS.

My wife and I watched the VHS after we were married per our parents advice. Learned more then in Sex-Ed, of course I had a reason. Good quality pictures that captivate and bring the whole process of conception home.

This is well worth watching for mature audiences.

4stars - "Great DVD - just as good as the VHS" (W. Buxton)

This is an EXCELLENT DVD! My only disappointment with was that it stops showing the development of the baby in-utero at about 20 weeks and goes right to the birth. The birth itself is very outdated because it shows a woman in a sterile delivery room, lying flat on her back, pushing (which we now know is not an optimal position for birthing. Otherwise, its still holds up after all these years.

Buyers should be aware that the other NOVA DVD: The Miracle of Life/ Life's First Feelings NOVA: The Miracle of Life/Life's First Feelings IS actually two separate DVDs in one. So, if you are considering getting The Miracle of Life and can afford to, you might want to buy that one. I mistakenly bought BOTH because the Amazon listing said it was ONE DVD and I thought it was an enhanced version of the original The Miracle of Life. It is actually an additional DVD that compliments the first one. I highly recommend both - BUT FYI: the second DVD was originally produced in 1986, so even that, while fascinating, it feels very outdated now.

I am a proud parent of an infant at Juniorversity Preschool in the city of Compton, Ca. Gwendolyn Crews is my daughters daycare provider and she has been using the "Your Baby Can Read" dvds. To my knowledge my daughter has been on the program for appoximately 14 months, I have seen such a remarkable change in her abilities and communication skills I had to purchase a set for myself. I'm really proud of my daughter, her daycare and your system. I speak so highly(and so much) of this program, people are running out buying the dvds and are looking into the daycare my daughter attends.

5stars - "Worth every penny. !!! Excellent !! She reads everything !!!" (Autumn Reads)

This video is excellent. As an educator specializing in language acquisition, I know that this series of videos is in keeping with current language acquisition research. My daughter began watching them at 8 weeks and has absolutely loved them! She is now nine months old and reading her first words. (Obviously she can't speak yet, so when I hold up a card with the words `clap' or `arms up', `wave', `kiss', etc. she simple acts out what's on the card.) My daughter gets so excited every time I walk to the tv, in anticipation of her video. For those who do not feel that there is a "human touch" in these videos, I would suggest you watch the parents segment in which Dr. Titzer stresses that in order for a child to read well and enjoy reading, parents must interact with their children. This video is to supplement parental efforts in teaching children of the joy of reading. It is not meant to replace the children's bedtime stories or `cuddle time.' There is more to "reading" than word calling. Seems like "reading" at an early age should be a loving experience between the parent and the child. I began actually READING books to my 10 month old as a newborn. Very early on he learned to turn pages, make his own book selection and flip the book back to the front when the book was finished. These are all important book handling skills that don't require a video to promote. More importantly, my son is already learning that reading is a warm and fun cozy time to spend with his parents/siblings. It is a time that I cherish dearly in our busy lives and one that I am not willing to give up to the television.

My daughter started watching this video at 5 months. At 13 months she started saying the words on the screen before the narrator did. At 15 months she could read all the words in the book that I got to go with Volume one. She is in first grade now and reads at a fifth grade level. I attribute her early reading to this video! I would put it on once a day, but never forced her to watch. Some days she would just play and listen while it was on. I think the video helped her make the connection of letters and reading earlier than normal. My younger daughter watches the videos now and loves them, too! Worth every nickel and then some!

There are good Baby Einstein DVDs and not so good one. This one is a keeper. My baby started with Baby Beethoven at about 6 weeks and loved it, it remains her favorite many months later. We tried several other Baby Einstein DVDs for variety. Language Nursery is her second favorite. The black & white images and simple abstract shapes attract younger babies. Meanwhile the soundtrack exposes babies to foreign languages through numbers, alphabet, simple nursery rhymes. Definitely recommend!

Your child would love watching this video, but she'd also love eating cotton candy and drinking grape soda. Many pediatric and psychological studies have shown that young children know FEWER words for every hour they spend watching videos like this one. Why? Because they aren't spending time with YOU, practicing their language and social skills. There's also evidence that young children who watch TV have a greater risk of developing ADHD. Last, toddlers who grow up in homes with the TV always on in the background literally seem to have more trouble hearing themselves think. This hurts their developing linguistic abilities and consequently their abilities to engage silent reasoning.

Please protect your child -- don't let her watch any TV during her early, crucial, developmental years. We only watch TV when our little girl is asleep.

Do a little research on this and you'll be glad you didn't buy this video.

We have active twin boys and we can't stress how helpful the techniques were in The Happiest Toddler on the Block DVD; Dr. Karp has done it again! I can't say that I am perfect all the time, but I can say that when we do use the techniques and express to the boys that we truly and SINCERELY understand their feelings, they listen. Not only that, but they treat us and others with respect. Acting out/tantrums are definitely minimized too.

I had seen Dr. Harper's "The Happiest Baby on the Block" and found it extremely helpful in dealing with newborns to help them calm down when crying and to sleep better. All his suggestions and techniques I found to be very effective. With "The Happiest Toddler on the Block", Dr. Harper is also very good in giving ideas to deal with toddlers who are having problems communicating their feelings and desires and do so throwing tantrums. Dr. Harper offers very helpful techniques to understand the little ones and help them be happier by having the adults around them respond in manners that are more appropriate to their developmental level. I haven't yet tried the techniques but I sent a copy to my son who has a two year old daughter. I'm waiting to hear from him to see what he thinks. The parents who participated in both videos appeared to have learned the techniques and found them very helpful.

My husband and I got the book first and decided to get the dvd to make sure we were doing the techniques right. All I can say is, the toddlerese just fuels our little one's fire and makes the tantrums even worse than they were to start with. We have what Dr. Karp calls a "spirited" toddler and these methods just plain didn't work. I really wish they would - the only thing we can get to work so far with our 2 1/4 year old is to ignore the tantrum and let her calm down before trying to communicate any further with her. Also, our daughter communicates with us much above the level that Dr. Karp indicates in his book - even when she is in a rage of tantrum, maybe that's why this doesn't work for her - who knows. Best wishes to all those that do try this though. I guess it must work for some people!

UPDATE: We have found that the underlying methods in this do work with our toddler, but we had to modify how we used it. For instance, our toddler doesn't appreciate the toddlerese, but the fast food method definitely works and with a little further guidance from Dr. Karp it has made some difference in our toddler's tantrums and behavior. Definitely try different approaches with the ideas from this method in mind if you don't find it working.

Not as good as the book b/c it doesn't explain the philosophy behind the method. But it is nice that they get right to the point. My husband who did not read the book, thought the tactic was silly and got angry that the dr. wants you to talk to your kids like cavemen. He understood after I explained that you don't talk to them like that all the time, just when they are upset. But at least he can get the information without picking up a book (that will be the day!).

This is a GREAT pregnancy workout. Not to strenuous, not to easy. I was able to complete this workout until my 7th month (I got really huge). I even used this workout to loose the baby weight after the baby was born, but it can be annoying to workout with pregnant woman on the screen when your not pregnant!
I was in reasonably good shape before I started this program. May be too strenuous if your pregnant and starting from scratch.
I'd recommend this to any pregnant woman who wants to exercise. It will help you feel a lot better through your pregnancy!

This dvd is not at all boring and it is challenging (29 weeks pregnant). Kathy Smith makes it fun and easy to follow along... the music is upbeat.. and I agree that rap part is a lil bit corny, but not at all enough of a reason for me not to purchase, it definately made me sweat a bit .. Oh and let me just state that I was in excellent shape pre-pregnancy... meaning I would workout at the gym 5days a week 2 hours a day... people need to realize that you canot workout at the same entensity level as you did before, because you body is much more prone to injury.. i got the sense by all the reviews that everyone with negative reviews thought it wasnt enough of a workout.. which almost made me not purchase this dvd.. but Im very glad I decided to try it for myself :)

I did this workout when I was pregnant with my first child, when it was only available on VHS. (I now have 3 children, and my oldest is now 9 years old, so I was doing this workout 10 years ago.)

It was recently put on dvd format, and many are complaining that the music, leotards, and decor are outdated.

I wanted to comment that Kathy Smith filmed this workout when she was pregnant herself, so unless she gets pregnant again, there is really no way for her to be pregnant and lead a pregnancy workout...

So yes, the leotards and hairstyles are outdated, but I don't think Kathy wants to get pregnant again 15 years (give or take) after she had her last one just to make an updated dvd. *smiling*

The workout, however, is effective, and safe for pregnant women-which is what it all boils down to.
