My son has difficulty with flashcard memorization. This video was used by his sisters in the classroom and they loved it so much I purchased it for my son. I am pleased to say he is finally learning multiplication and enjoys watching the video. I highly recommend this product.

I enjoyed this movie so much 'cuz it help me thru my math skills and how I can use them to study and learn. This is the best school movie I ever enjoyed incl. the soundtrack. I was 5 or 6 when I grew up w/ this and I liked it a lot. I mean a WHOLE lot.

It teaches you the basic on how you can multiply, add, subtract or divide whenever you feel like counting or you can get in your head. Sometimes it easily to try w/o giving up. My mom and dad teach me better to stay in school and learn a good education.

Probably to me I'm a fast learner and I count money real well too. I recommend this along w/ Money Rock to go with it. This is a must-have to keep if u luv math or else it's not your favorite subject.

When I was in third grade I never could get my times tables down pat- the sevens and twelves proved especially tricky. So my mom checked out this video from the library, and that changed immediately. I could rattle off my multiplication tables as fast as everybody else after watching this only a few times. Amazing! That same year I got put in advanced math. Coincidence? I think not! All the songs were just so catchy. I loved it when I saw the NIKE commercial playing "Three is the Magic Number", that's one of my favorites. Anyways, parents, this is a great buy for your kids and I doubt that you'll get tired of the tunes.

I grew up in the 70's and 80's watching School House Rock. My favorites have always been "Interjection," "Lolly Lolly Get Your Adverbs Here," "Unpack Your Adjectives." Today, I teach College Prep Writing at a community college, and I introduce my students to the parts of speech with this video. And when I do, I always hear the comments from the back of the room, "Oh my God, she's even singing along." These songs work wonders even for adults. Later on, when we get more in depth, all I have to say is "Lolly Lolly" and students start singing themselves.

Here's a quick fix or review for those children struggling with understanding grammar. Because of the easy tunes and rhyming lyrics, children will quickly remember the correct ways to use nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, verbs, subjects, and predicates. Because of the age of the product, it has inherent problems. Grammar usage rules have changed over the years, so children may pick up some weak or incorrect ideas on usage. Although many of us remember "Conjunction Junction" with great delight, children need to recognize the new list of conjunctions. The video tends to stress passive writing over active writing. Bits of the language in the "Adjective" song allow kids to belittle or mock others. But the joy of learning through music--even with dated lyrics--allows for a meeting ground where parents can add to the learning process.

5stars - "School House Rocks!"

When my son was born, and only my singing seemed to comfort him, (my singing had never comforted anyone before...) I found myself singing "The Preamble" and "Conjunction Junction." I bought all four Schoolhouse Rock videos shortly afterwards.

He's three now, and this is his second favorite video.(after "Multiplication Rock")

He does, however, leave the room during "Busy Prepositions." I have no recollection of this one, and it doesn't measure up to the rest of the songs. I was surprised to find it was written by Bob Dorough, who wrote most of the others.

One miss, and eight hits should still warrant a five star rating. "Unpack Your Adjectives," "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly, Get Your Adverbs Here," "Conjunction Junction," "Interjections," "Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla," "Verb: That's What's Happening," "A Noun is a Person Place Or Thing," and the fabulous "The Tale of Mr. Morton" are all classics.

The movie was great, but the 10th aniversary edition is a disappointment as there are very little extras.

I then purchased the collectors edition, which offered much more extras, including deleted scenes, which most should not have been deleted. These scenes added to the movie and should have been included. I know the reason for these scenes being deleted was time factors, but why not include them in the DVD?

I recommend buying the collectors edition rather than the ten year edition. There is little money difference in cost.

5stars - "Titanic: Special Collector's Edition 1997" (Neva)

This was a great movie to see in the theater, which is not a typical thing for me to say, and so it is even better in your own home (although the 61" telly helps), where you can pause it and get up to go to the loo. But it was every bit as amazing and moving and incredible to watch. And even though I knew the end of the film, I was still on the edge of my seat as the ship went to her watery grave. An amazing experience for all ages!

My 1 (almost 2) year old son likes this video. But he wants me to watch it with him. No bulldozers here, but shots from large construction sites (J.Paul Getty Museum in LA) . Almost like somthing you'd see on the discovery channel. I went out to a nearby construction site with my video camera and was able to get comparable shots of heavy equipment. My son doesn't seem to mind "forman Dave".

4stars - "Holds a 1 year old's attention." (Philip Shisbey)

Ok, ok. I know you're not "supposed" to put your child in front of the TV while you try to get something done. But here in the real world we have to do just that every once in a while. At least if I put on a video I know there won't be any surprises that I don't want my 2-1/2 year old seeing. This video is great for just that purpose. It runs a little over 1/2 an hour so it's not too long that I can take advantage of the "free time." It's just long enough to get dinner started and sometimes on the table. My son has loved it from the moment we first popped it into the VCR. I have also learned a lot about big machinery from it and have taken our education into the real world. He can now sit in the car as we run our errands and point out steam rollers, excavators, bulldozers, etc... which makes car time a lot less tedious. Highly recommended.

We like this video, overall, but want others to know BEFORE THEY BUY:1. the title would more appropriately be "There Go Big Machines on a Job Site". There are bulldozers, for sure, but there are MANY, MANY OTHER MACHINES found on a job site in this 30 min. video, too. On the positive side, the video does a super job of showing a variety of machines, the machines at work, and provides good narrative about the machines themselves. A+ on variety and accuracy.2. DANGEROUS MESSAGES. You will either like or dislike Dave; OSHA would ban him from ever working around machinery or children (if the could do the latter). IN THIS VIDEO, DAVE:-- sees a roller coming, STAYS IN ITS PATH, and GETS RUN OVER AND SMASHED into the dirt, then rises amazingly unhurt. Extremely dangerous and scary message to send to a child of any age, but particularly the ages 3-8 that is the video's stated target audience.-- STEPS ON A RAKE (on the ground with PRONGS UP!) and hits himself in the head with the handle. He falls back and IS KNOCKED OUT.-- a dream sequence then begins in which Dave enters a port-a-potty that is then picked up and taken away (swinging in the air). Our 2-year old daughter didn't comment, but Dave's face is scared and other children might find this upsetting. Have to wonder why they put it in at all; for the adults watching? It's not as if CHILDREN ages 3-8 will even know what a port-a-potty is and understand the sequence.All that aside, and yes that's a lot to overlook, the video is smartly filmed and informative. Just so you know before you buy!!!

5stars - "Dead Poets Society movie" (Amy E. Sommers)

This movie is, by far, one of my favorite movies of all time. It was so well written, directed and has some of the best actors (i.e. Robert Sean Leonard-Dr. Wilson himself!). Moving score as well. I hate to say this but it was because of this movie that I became interested in poetry. And I saw this at the movies when it came out in 1989. I was 20. I hadn't known what I was missing not reading poetry. Better late than never! Watch this movie, open your mind and you'll be pleasantly surprised! Peace.

5stars - "One of the Best!" (Virginia Cruz)

I have seen this movie so many times I think I have everyone of Robin William's lines memorized. Everytime I watch this movie I wish I had been a teacher. The cast of teeneage boys are tremendous in their rolls and Robin Williams is electrifying as the off beat instructor who dares to challenge the rules in the traditional school where he was once a student. Part coming of age part tragedy the story is filled with drama and sprinkled with humor but more than anything always makes me want to do more with my own life.

If you have never seen this movie rent it or buy it now.

It taught me about science in a different way from the way people normally learn about science. I liked it because it's got some funny parts. Lots of times people learn science by seeing and having someone explain things to them. But this is different. For example, Telegraph Line uses a mailman delivering messages from the brain, which people don't usually see. This makes learning fun.

Who does not have fond memories of those 3-minute cartoons that aired on ABC television on Saturday mornings teaching a generation of children about history, government, math, grammar, and science? What kid does not know that a noun is a person, place, or thing or cannot explain how a bill becomes a law? (I am shocked that "I'm Just a Bill" is only #2 on the list of most popular Schoolhouse Rocks! behind "Conjunction Junction"). As you can tell, "interplanetary Janet" (#8), with its tour of the solar system, is my favorite Science Rock, although I guess it is not too shocking that "Electricity, Electricity" (#5) ranks higher. For the record, here the complete list of Science Rocks:"Body Machine" which needs things like chicken salad sandwiches as fuel;"Circulation," the big new craze as everybody is doing the circulation; "Electricity, Electricity" on the use of electrical power; "Energy" or more accurately Energy Conservation; "Interplanet Janet" and a tour of the Solar System;"Telegraph Line" all about the Nervous System;"Them Not-So-Dry Bones" without which you would be just a blob; "Victim of Gravity" sung by the Tokens; and "Weather" the greatest show on Earth!Science teachers around the U.S. can still use these wonderful little "rock videos" to both introduce key topics and to provide a bit of musical reinforcement. I know that music is still being used in schools to help students learn material (my daughter can sing a song with all the state capitals and there is a woman at work who can do all the nations of the world) and that was the guiding principle behind "Schoolhouse Rock." Science Rock is great. It's amazing that in 25 years no one's been able to top it.I wonder how many high school seniors know as much as a kid who watches these videos about science. I prefer DVD, but whatever. My kids watch it all the time. I like it too. The songs are fun! The clever rhymes are unforgettable, but unlike some annoying kid's songs, you don't really want to forget these.I really feel like my kids need to be informed about the Bible too, so I'm overjoyed that they recently made a CD and DVD called Scripture Rock.

I loved this video. But, I must say if you have never done Yoga before anywhere you would have to watch this video maybe 2-3 times before trying it. Without any previous Yoga experience this would seem like the wrong video. But, once you are accustomed to it I think it is a great video.

5stars - "This is Gentle Yoga, but not for beginners." (James Cottone)

This video was my first real introduction to Yoga and I love it. I didn't have a problem with the pacing. If I had problems with a pose I just backed the video up, watched her carefully then tried it myself. Everything takes practice and yoga is no exception. I hope the reviews by the people who had problems with the pacing won't turn you off to this video. Please keep in mind that this is not an introduction to yoga video. Just because it says beginner in the title, it doesn't mean that it's an introduction to the basics video. If you have most of the basic down then this video would be a wonderful addition to your home practice. I, personally, don't use this video anymore - I wore the tape out. I considered repurchasing it but instead, I took it as a sign that it was time for me to move on in my yoga practice. I would purchase it again though.

I was originally only purchasing a YogaKids tape when I saw this "Gentle Yoga" tape. So without any research, I purchased this tape. Instead of being a relaxing 30 minutes, the host rushes the viewer from pose to pose and all the while she constantly says breath in and breath out- she also doesn't say whether you should be breathing through the nose or mouth.Finally, the picture quality of the tape was grainy. Save your money or at least find another tape.

I was troubled when I began to use this video, because of the confusing pace and the constant reminding to inhale and exhale, but after a week or so of practice, I began to see the benefits. It takes a little practice, but if you stick with it, you'll find that Ms. Deason's instruction is perfect for those who plan to use this video on a routine basis. If she had gone slower, or added more instruction within the workout portion of the video, I would quickly become annoyed with having to listen over and over again to how to perform a pose I'd been doing for weeks. Don't give up! You'll find that you no longer need to look at the TV at all, and the gentle instructions (especially "inhale" and "exhale") keep you calm and centered, and in the rhythm of the practice. I am trying to lose a significant amount of weight, and although some poses are more difficult to attain due to my size, I have found that this exercise puts me more in touch with my body than any other I've tried.

That's why I decided to buy this tape for my sister when she inquired about video recommendations to start a yoga practice. Fortunately I tried it out before sending it on to her. I never did. It is definitely not for beginners. I have had a regular yoga practice for three years and it was too much for me. I found the verbal cuing impossible to follow. And it is highly undesireable, if not impossible, to have to constantly look up at the tv screen while trying to do yoga.

5stars - "Awesome quick workout!" (Dore Myers)

When I first began yoga, this tape quickly become my favorite after familiarizing myself w/ basic poses (using Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss). I would recommend this to someone who has learned the basics and is looking for something a little more challenging.
Rodney Yee is practicing on a beach, in Hawaii. The majority of this workout conisists of Sun Salutations w/ lunges and Warrior poses. There are a few seated or lying down moves and a nice 5 min. cooldown at the end. Total workout time: 20 min.
All in all, this is a great tape to have if you are a beginner who is ready to move on OR as a standby for the more advanced practitioner as its a nice quick, feel good workout.

This was one of two tapes I got when I started practicing yoga. (The other was Living Arts Total Yoga, which I also like, but which is somewhat different in style and is 60 minutes long.) I agree with other reviewers that Rodney Yee goes through the poses very quickly, not allowing much time to contemplate them or adjust into them. But as a beginner, I did not find this an impediment to enjoying the practice. As one reviewer pointed out, yoga is a journey. You're not going to be able to do every pose perfectly the first time. In fact, the beginning of every yoga tape urges the user to view the whole tape first. Show of hands, how many have actually done that? Yeah, me neither. Then maybe we'll have to accept that we'll be a little awkward the first few times.

I have since bought many other tapes (and some books) that have helped me understand each pose better. However, I still learn something new every time I do this workout. I like the flow of one pose to another. I like the repetition, too. And it is a nice little complete workout. You'll stretch, strengthen, breathe hard, stretch some more, and relax. The poses are somewhat challenging, yet very accessible to beginners. I always feel very bendy and centered afterward.

It's important to me to do some form of exercise every day. The length of this tape makes it easy to fit into my life. It's the tape I reach for most often for that reason.

I consider myself an average yoga-er, but this is definately not a tape for beginners. you have to know what the poses are beforehand, as he moves from pose to pose very quickly, not really explaining how to get into some of the poses, which someone with no experience (aka beginner) would get lost. I would recommend this tape to more advanced yoga fans, as you will know most of these poses and be able to keep up. My only gripe is with his billing of this as for beginners, otherwise great workout.

My big gripe is that this tape is mislabled!!! This tape is NOT for beginners! Beginners need instruction about the poses - how to do them, correct form and TIME to do them. Also most people beginning yoga lack flexibilty to move at the extremly fast pace the instructor moves in. There was no time for adjustments. I am in a power yoga class,in decent shape and I couldn't keep up using correct form. If you are not going to use correct form, why bother? If you are new to Yoga I would highly suggest Yoga Journals Yoga Step by Step 3 vol. video series. Each dvd has a 35 min instruction part followed by a 20 minute workout. Don't follow this tape like a drone. Try Yoga Journals and get educated about yoga and get a good workout as well. I hope when the tape is updated that they update the title as well. NOT FOR BEGINNERS!

The Leap Frog series of DVDs has been such a great tool in helping our child learn to read. The Letter Factory made learning the sounds of letters fun. Talking Words Factory helps teach putting letters together to make words with the short vowel sounds. Now Code Word Caper takes it to the next level, teaching kids about the silent e that changes short vowels to long vowels: the vowels say their name. The plots and characters are fun, making the whole learning process fun! After our daughter saw this one she said, "That was great!" - and wanted to watch it again the next day!

This video is perfect for beginning readers who know the short vowel sounds and are able to blend. Both of my daughters were able to transition from words like "cat" and "fat" to words with digraphs and special rules (e.g. magic E) painlessly. After the first time my four-year-old watched this video, she was able to write out simple words like HOP and then lengthen the O by adding the magic E (i.e. HOPE).

I have younger children as well and they were very entertained by the video, although I am not sure if there was any real educational benefit for them.

No, the School House Rock segments are not all correct, nor are they right on the money, when it comes to History. But, you have to realize, they were never meant to be. Our text books in school are not 100% accurate either. SHR was never meant to be 100% accurate. It was created to make kids think, and present the material in a way where it would be fun. Yes, alot is left out, but alot more is in there also. Im am so sick of people trying to be so POLITICALLY CORRECT these days. GET OVER IT, and just accept School House Rock for what it is. A teaching tool, aimed at kids, watching Saturday morning cartoons. GEEESH. Get over it everybody.

Well, i am here to say this is a fabulous tool! I watched all of these as a child and have shared them with my children. For those of you with the less than 5 star reviews let me say...This is not meant to be an exhaustive history lesson! It is a great way to introduce children to the history of our country. Something that, in my experience, schools made very boring. My children love history. If you find it not as accurate then be the one to take the next step and research it with your kids. I would agree it is geared toward younger kids but not that older kids would find it "stupid" at all! These reviews were pretty harsh. Also, the pilgrims DID plant food. Yes, the indians taught them everything and saved them but i wouldn't call that an inaccuracy. The movie just didn't get that deep into it. Come on now it is only a half hour! I highly recommend this to children of all ages. It opens the door to questions and conversations about our country that may not be raised otherwise. The music is very catchy and stays with you. It is plain and simple fun while being educational at the same time. Don't let the negative reviews sway you. This is a great video series and I highly recommend it!!
