I have really enjoyed this video. A team of us at work are doing the 8 minute workout during our safety meeting and then at lunch. I have mastered the 8 minute workout and will proceed at home doing the Basic. At work we will continue to do the 8 minute workout until the group is ready to move forward at lunch to the Basic. I would and have recommended this video to friends of mine. I have being doing the 8 minute workout for 5 weeks now and I can feel and see the results. TAEBO REALLY WORKS!!!!

I get stuck in a rut of routine workouts where I find myself not obtaining results for as much as I work out. I thought I would try kickboxing (something different) and had heard that this particular Tae Bo series (the orignal) of workouts was hard and challenging but great results for those that stick with it. I am addicted. These workouts are very easy to follow (basic counting; no fluff) but makes you work up a sweat and gets your heart rate up. I have noticed just doing the basic 27 minute workout three times a week for two weeks that my stomach is a lot more toned as well as my legs are starting to show definition. I am ready to graduate and try the advanced workout and mix it up.

I bought this first set of tae-bo when it just came out in 2000, one of my friends who was practicing martial arts recommended it. I was fairely active and athletic, but after my first pregnancy it was so hard to get back in shape. I was struggling for a few years, trying walking, jogging, gym, classes, everything with minor results. And then I started doing tae-bo. It was not easy, but after a month or so of doing basic I switched to advanced. My body had never looked better, I never felt better about myself! I was simply addicted to this workout! I never received so many compliments in my entire life! I should say, at about the same time I started doing yoga 2-3 times a week. It was a great work out balance. All that happened almost 7 years ago. Now, every time, when I need to shed a few pounds, I know where to go to, not to the gym, but to my bookshelf, where I keep a good collection of Tae-Bo tapes. They never let me down, never! And it's true, you can see results after 2-3 workouts only. Whether you want to lose weight or get your body toned and muscles more defined, this one is the best workout!

I have to say how wonderful, motivational and challenging tae bo workouts are. In 2 months I've lost 32 pounds, I do tae bo 6 times per week for about 3 months now. I must share the toning results. I've never thought there were actually muscles under the fat in my body after losing 32 pounds. I can see a huge diference on the way I feel, my energy, I feel more confident. I know if I keep doing tae bo I can get to my goal.

If you're determined to lose weight and want to make the effort then tae bo is for you. I'm kind of addicted to it I have to admit it. But I enjoy doing it and seing the results.

Billy also is a great motivation his words of wisdom and his team behind him makes it a fun workout.

I love tae-bo! Billy Blanks is awesome and Tae-bo is fun and easy to use. This dvd is great because it has the different workouts so you can choose what level of difficulty you want. The 8 minute workout is also nice because it's quick enough to do if you only have a few minutes, but effective enough to get your heart pumping and let you feel like you've actually worked out, even if it's only for 8 minutes! I think anyone can do taebo-whether you are super-fit or out of shape. And if you can't quite do all of the moves in the workouts, Billy will show you ways to make them easier. Give Tae-bo a chance! I bet you'll like it!

This video is appropriate for people who have no interest in a yoga workout whatsoever. It is slow, ineffective, and short. More time is spent reading the warnings than doing any real yoga. The am portion is so slow it will put you right back to sleep. Save your money! Buy a real yoga video!

When I cannot get to a Yoga class this short (20 minute) tape is very helpful.
I was especially pleased to be able to get a VCR tape since I don't have a DVD
player in my room.

These videos each have their strong points, and I've used and enjoy them both. The biggest flaw is that, as a set, they are so out of balance with each other. As other reviewers have mentioned, the A.M. video is substantially easier than the P.M., so folks who want a good workout dislike the first, and those who are a bit out of shape dislike the second.

I use the A.M. when I feel like I need something easy and gentle, and when I lapse in practicing yoga for a while, this is invariably the tape I come back to, to get me going again. (I move on to the Yoga for Energy DVD in this Gaiam/Yoga Journal series, once I loosen up again, though.)

The P.M. video just about killed me when I first tried it. However, the moment when all that vigorous stretching is finished, and you finally go into relaxation feels sooo good. (Like the old joke: "Why are you hitting yourself?""Because it feels so good when I stop!") So, I come back to this tape, when I have time in the afternoon. And I've improved enough so that the poses don't seem too difficult now, but they still push me to my limit before that golden moment of relaxation.

i'v had this dvd for years but never tried it. i have been suffering from hip pain, not when i walk but after i sit for a while and then get up, it hurts and i limp. i decided to try this dvd and after a few days the hip problem is no longer a problem so i am very happy with the quick results! am is easier than pm but i keep at it and i'm sure i'll get better with time.

Because it's a great series, that's why!

OK -- confession time: I'd never been a fan of "chick" authors such as Jane Austen, but boy, was I mistaken! Friends at work turned me on to this series when it first appeared on A&E, and I was immediately sucked into the story. And what a great story it is!

The adaptation remains very faithful to the novel (a fact which I discovered when I read the book after I'd seen the series), so much so that a pivotal scene that occurs *exactly* half way through the book also occurs *exactly* half-way through the series.

Colin Firth plays a Darcy that I don't believe shall ever be equaled (a role that he seems to have reprised, time and again, in later films), and the entire cast, from top to bottom, is great. That, coupled with set and costume design that seems to authentically replicate the period, gives the series a lushness and depth that is a pleasure to watch.

The series stands up well to multiple viewings (always a sign of a great film). In fact, it's one of my favorite things to watch during the Christmas Holidays when it's cold and wet outside.

Anyway -- it's well worth five stars, and if anyone has not yet seen it (hard as that is to believe), my advice is: get thee to the video store!

I must utilize movies as a visual aide supplement to help them connect with the characters, setting, dialogue... I strongly recommend using this dvd to support your curriculum to teach on all levels of student learning (auditory, kinesthetic, visual).

Finally.....my favorite television mini-series of all time on DVD. It's wonderful to be able to watch the entire series without commercial interruption. Too bad 25 years ago no one knew that someday we would want to see behind the scenes footage - "the making of The Thorn Birds." The only thing that would make this DVD set better is if there were extras, but I'm sure they are not available.

I watched this mini series in the 80s. I loved it then and even more so now. This movie is a classic. It spans over forty years to portray a love story that could never be between an ambitious priest and a love-struck girl. Barbara Stanwyck gave the performance of her life. She was awesome and a key figure in this sage of love, neglect, favoritism, religion, and ambition.

As for the person who complained that Martin Scorcese called the '80's the "me" decade, that was a popular theme of the time. Maybe you should go back and look at 80's and the literature about it from all kind of sources. Just like the 20's was often refered to as the "Roaring" 20's. 80's was often called the "me" decade. I also think it is not a liberal or conservative designation. Following the internalization of values and desires in the 70's, the 80's was when technology, growth, income and development all led to the application of the 70's trend of an individual ethic. People DID become more selfish and self centered, more complacent, in need of more instant gratification.

5stars - "STARTING TO WORRY" (S. C. MURRAY)

This series is so helpful to recall the chronological order of all of the things once learned in history classes at school. Hoever this series not only gives the facts, but adds a personal element to it by interviewing average citizens who remember the historic events recalled. By no means is this your "boring documentary". I have seen the series several times, and I still learn new things, and I still moved everytime, at the strength of our country and the tremendous blessing it is to live here.

As a couple of other reviewers indicated, this video set does a fair job hitting on all the major events affecting America in the twentieth century, but can't resist dwelling on all the ills - especially those of the Reagan era. The low point was Martin Scorcese's appraisal of the 1980's as being the "me decade" full of greed. Who made him an authority and why doesn't anyone in the media ever see the 1990's the same way, when the US was even more prosperous?

DON'T confuse this set with the other 12-volume set, "The Century," which addressed broader, global issues. THAT set is FAR SUPERIOR to "America's Time," especially the episodes on Hitler's rise to power, Lindberg's crossing the Atlantic, and the fall of South Vietnam.

I felt like watching a very long and boring brazilian or mexican soap opera, covered with intense moments of love and compassion, bad acting and no plot whatsoever. It's a genuine genre-salad.

This is a superb mini series. I enjoyed watching it very much and am happy to add it to my cult classic collection. If you like a good suspense-filled thriller about the end of days that starts with a plauge and riddled with the conflict of evil vs. good--then this is the movie for you. It features the husband/wife team Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis along with Rob Lowe, Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwold, and many others.

There are forces at work in the universe that defy rational understanding or explanation. Thats why Steven King novels are so popular.

You probably already know the plot but here it goes: Superbad superflu is accidentally released (while BOC's "Don't Fear the Reaper" plays) and randomly kills all but a few hundred survivors who are immune to the superflu. The survivors come in two varieties: the good and pure souls played by likable folksy folk like a no-nonsense Gary Sinese, a deaf and dumb Rob Lowe, a flirty (but relatively innocent) daddy's girl Molly Ringwald, a wise old white guy Ray Walston, a wise old black guy Ossie Davis, and these pure souls all collectively dream of a front porch sittin' and guitar pluckin' witchy woman played by Ruby Dee who telepathically leads them to the promised land in Boulder, Colorado; and then there are the bad souls played by no-name actors who are led to Vegas by an old scratch who looks like a really bad and really coked-up eighties rock star (complete with tight jeans and mullet). The two tribes then go to war.

The good are those communitarians who care about other people; the bad are the selfish who only care about themselves. Simple as that. But the really interesting thing here is that King doesn't have nature or some supernatural force sort things out for the survivors; rather the survivors have to sort things out for themselves and some of the survivors are not certain which master they serve and which town they belong in (a very sexy Laura San Giacomo plays one of these undecideds). Ruby Dee might have special powers but these powers come and go and though they have the ability to gather people together and inspire them they cannot be relied upon to make every decision. The people must empower themselves. This is a very nice touch on Kings part.

King provides us with a great Andromeda Strain-style drama AND a clever piece of American social satire AND an interesting meditation on character, religious prophecy/determinism, and free will all in one. If you don't like Steven King because he is not highbrow enough for you well its your loss because King is a crowd pleaser extraordinaire and these characters and this plot please at an exceptionally high level.

I love the examination of various geographies and psychologies and psychogeographies. King is a master at portraying regional types without resorting to stereotypes; I guess you could say that he invents his own pantheon of American archetypes for each project and this pantheon of archetypes is one of his all-time best. Plus his diagnosis of American ills c. 1980's is right on. Eighties excess never looked so deserving of ...exactly what it gets. This film is six hours of extremely satisfying characterizations and plotting. And it provides the perfect antithesis to the "greed is good" eighties.

Only one flaw: The last hour is perhaps the weakest of the six but thats maybe because King isn't satisfied with the big comeuppance scene and tries to deliver a lesson about faith and sacrificing the one for the many that feels forced when everything else feels so natural and right. After five hours of excellent and inspired rock-fueled (I already mentioned BOC's "Don't Fear the Reaper" but Crowded House's "Don't Dream Its Over" is another song that is used to great effect) mini-series I think most people want a complication-free resolution. But thats a minor flaw in an otherwise excellent adaptation.

Highly recommended.

Buyer beware! The newer DVD set of this FABULOUS series is not up to the quality of this VHS edition. The DVDs are made by the History channel, and the sound quality is awful. This older VHS version, produced by New Line features (although on tape) has a much finer sound quality and even the video isn't that bad, compared to the lousey transfer of the DVDs.
These are still the finest chronicles of war footage AND narration that have been made of WWll, in my opinion. Try to get thru them without tearing up at the human sacrifice and bravery.

UPDATE: Mill Creek Entertainment now has a 3 disc DVD set for UNDER $10.00 with all the 26 episodes. I have compared them side by side PIP on my TV....Identical prints as the VHS tapes, only slightly sharper on the DVD's. Sound quality same as tapes, Great bargain!

5stars - "Older VHS vs new DVD" (qualuku)

Once considered one of the greatest TV documentaries ever made, no one under the age of fifty is going to be able to sit through this overblown, hoaky collection of war footage. The narration is so overdramatic it's almost laughable, like the propaganda films made during the war to increase morale. Roger's score is great music, but it's just too prominant and often completely inappropriate (like the cheerfull flute music as Hitler marches into Paris).Skip this dinosaur and go directly to World at War, the great BBC series from the 1970s.

Probably the most extraordinary documentary of World War II ever produced for television, the original 26 episodes of "Victory at Sea" have been collated into six VHS tapes. To own the original 26 volumes on individual tapes is a collector's treasure indeed. Virtually impossible to find in that format and, if you can find it, good luck on the price!Starting with "Prelude to War," each episode of the series focuses on a distinct naval engagement or campaign in the Second World War. Captured enemy film from various Axis sources enhances the vast collection of U.S. Navy and other Allied and private sources used to compile each episode. The narration by Leonard Graves is superb and the writing for the narration is equally prominent. Narration is always just right and never excessive allowing the viewer to relish the award-winning musical score with its familiar and sometimes haunting refrains. Three long-playing recordings of the original soundtrack and variations thereof from the series were released in the heyday of "high fidelity" recordings. Soundtrack CDs are currently available for those who enjoy the music as much as the video images. All footage is in black and white and there are some technical "deficiencies" for the purists among the viewing audience. However, considering the series made its television debut in 1952, the historical accuracy, content and balanced perspective are truly remarkable. In the episode centered around the climactic naval and island battle for Okinawa, Leonard Graves describes the kamikaze threat to the U.S. fleet off the island as a "duel between gunners who fight to live and pilots who fight to die." There is no judgment of kamikaze fanaticism a mere seven years after the end of the war. Episode after episode, it is a factual account of what occurred on the vast oceans and seas of the world without political inclination of any sort."Victory at Sea" is a true classic documentary of American television with the bonus of one of the most enduring soundtracks of any film presentation of any kind. It is a mandatory addition to the video library of anyone interested in World War II -- especially all aspects of the war at sea. Selections from the series should be used to educate the youth of the nation in the secondary schools to convey the scale and sacrifice of so many six decades ago.

This trilogy is by far the most excilerating ever. It tells the story of the rise and fall of the Corleone crime family. Although this is a fictional story, It is one of the best stories that portrays the acts of a real Mafia family. After Vito Corleone(Michael's father) dies, it is up to Michael to take up the family business. Michael finds himself turning into one of the most feared gangters of his time. Watch this action packed film with plenty of mind blowing suprises. It is an all around great trilogy staring;Al Pacino,Marlin Brando,Robert Deniro and other great actors.

5stars - "Beyond Belief"

Incredible saga from start to finish. From the rise of Vito Corleone (Robert De Niro as young Vito, Marlon Brando as old Vito), to the rise and devastating fall of Michael (Hauntingly played by Al Pacino),The Godfather Trilogy is incredible (Even the last one, with the badly miscast Sofia Coppola). The Corleones are the ultimate anti-heroes: you want to root for them to bump off their enemies, and yet, they are also the bad guys. You even root for Sonny (Wickedly played by James Caan), when he beats up his abusive brother-in-law. They also suffer from betrayal from within the family: Fredo (Wonderfully acted by the late John Cazale), betrays his brother Michael just so he could have a little something for himself. Michael's reaction to Fredo's betrayal is heartbreaking. It's too bad that this is not delved more deeply in the final chapter instead of putting in plots that go nowhere (The fling between Bridget Fonda and Andy Garcia simply goes nowhere at all). All in all, the trilogy deals with loss: From the loss of Vito's family, to the loss of Michael's soul when he takes over the family business. This film is a must have in your collection.

It also includes a bonus "behind-the-scenes" video and booklet and comes in a black collector's box. Over 9 hours of video! The best of the best!

This is the best version of Great Expectations in film, I gave it a star because it's in VHS. I have no idea why they didn't come out on DVD.

Well...if any of you are waiting for DVD or planning to buy this VHS, think again. This film actually came out in DVD at UK so look somewhere else.

1stars - "Not on DVD?" (Chi Siu)
This is, by far, the best movie version of Great Expectations. It follows the book closely and the acting and character portrayal are superb. The problem is that it is VHS and we could barely make out the dialogue. I am anxiously waiting for it to come on DVD.

3stars - "Great movie, poor quality" (Mommy_78)

This is by far the best overall version of "Great Expectations" and when I say that I mean to take nothing away from the great David Lean film. I had taped this when it was originally broadcast on the Disney channel, but made the mistake of loaning it to my niece when she was studying the book in school. She's a great kid, but I never saw the tapes again.

Hopefully one day Disney will issue this on dvd without screwing it up. I should think even if there was no other reason to see it there would be some interest in seeing the pre-Hannibal Lechter Anthony Hopkins threatening to eat someones liver.

The story has a number of bizzare twists and strange characters. The first strange character is Ms. Havisham. Ms. Havisham receives a letter just before her wedding announcing that the groom will not be marrying her. Ms. Havisham lives an isolated life in mansion and is occassion by money hungry relatives; the marriage room is unalter and rodents and spider webs cover the room; her skin has yellowed from lack of sunlight and she keeps warmth from her fireplace; she adopts a orphan girl from Jagger name Estella; she sits on a throne seat and orchastrate a drama between Pip and Estella; Ms. Havisham does not teach Estella how to love and instead creates an unapproachable and emotionally void apprentice; Estella marries the evil Durnham and inherits most of Ms. Havisham wealth; Pip is lead too believe Ms. Havisham is the source of his secret funds; Ms. Havisham respresents the stingy, cruel, and cold world of the superwealthy.

Mr. Magwitch is an odd fellow. Mr Magwitch abandons Pip as a young boy leaving him to be raised by Pips sister, the Blacksmith Joe's wife; Magwitch thinks he has killed Compeyson; Jaeggar defends Magwitch with some success; Mr Magwitch serves prison time in Austrilia and is under felony punishable by hanging, if he returns to England; Mr. Magwitch makes his money speculating and accumulates 20,000 pounds; Mr. Magwitch through Jaeggar funds Pip education to become a gentleman and a Lord; Mr. Magwitch learns from Pip he has a daughter, Estella; Compeyson leads the police to Magwitch, a fight ensues, and Mr. Magwitch kills Compeyson; Mr. Magwitch becomes sick, but before dieing faces the magistrate and is sentenced to death; Pip remains loyal to Magwitch and watches his die of his sickness avoiding the hanging.

Herbert Pocket should have been the true heir to Ms Havisham wealth. Pip manages to convince Ms. Havisham of this fact and upon her death she donates 4,000 pounds too Mr Pocket. Pip arranges through Mr. Wemmick too purchase part ownership for Mr pocket in a trading company. Mr Pocket becomes wealthy, Pip keeps the investments secretive, and Mr. Pocket marries Clara. Mr Pocket is a close friend of Pipe and probably of source of wealth for Pip as he became old.

Estella is the unapproachable woman. Pip is completely in love with her but through out she remains apart from him. Estella allows Pip to kiss her on the cheek twice; she treats Pip gestures of love with contempt and calls him, 'silly boy'; Estella believes Pip is a hero because Ms Havisham raise Pip status in the eyes of jealous relatives bring them pain and these relatives brought Estella pain; Estella believes she shows Pip love by not using him; Ms. Havisham has taught Estella how to hurt men. Estella and Pip do not fall in love with each other and remain friends apart. Pip can not love another woman and has surrender his love completely to Estella including all his devotions, heart, attentions, and protections. After 11 years, Estella is broke but still will not love Pip.

This is by far the best adaptation ever made! True to the text with stellar performances by the entire cast. In our opinion this is the best performance ever done by the great Anthony Hopkins. My VHS version has worn out because we have made a family tradition of watching it together every Christmas. I cannot understand why this not out on DVD!
