An Oldie but Goodie! I've worn out two VHS tapes over the years! Great workout, the best! I have at least 50 exercise DVDs and videos. This is the best of all! Can't find another to come close. Does anyone know if this will ever be released on DVD? I still put it in the old VHS player from time to time but would love to own it on DVD.It's the most awesome program, Cher and Keli Roberts make it fun. Keli is a super instructor. The step program is fabulous and fun; the abdominal workout is fantastic and the standing leg routine is something else. You will sweat your butt off but you'll be in the best shape of your life. This one rocks!

I've used this video for more than 15 years now (God, I feel so old!) and this destroys anything else out there! First of all, it's fun! You actually enjoy working out (no small feat, let me tell you). The instructor is in great shape, explains all of the steps, and doesn't do the annoying "Smile! Enjoy yourself" routine that so many do. Cher's jokes are a bit lame and the music is old even for the time in which it had been made, but you really feel as if you are a part of the group (which consist of pretty but not annoyingly centrefold type girls like on Bodyshaping). You can make the steps more challenging by adding arm movements or by popping (note to those who are heavy or have poor knees: Don't pop. It destroys the knees. I have very minor knee problems and I avoid popping like the plague). I only do the step workout on this video since I perform my squats with weights and do my abs seperately, but as a step workout, this is the best! You sweat a ton (a great sign that you actually did something), it's over relatively quickly (40 min. for the step portion), and you've honestly enjoyed yourself. Could you ask for more? My only complaint: Producers of this video, please, please, please release it on dvd! My video is on its last leg!

I originally purchased this for a friend who is also a teacher, however after seeing it, I decided I wanted one for my classroom as well! It is a great mix of animation and actual footage. My friend teaches in the primary grades and we both felt additional instruction and explanation might be necessary for that audience. I teach upper elementary and the DVD will support a basal reader selection quite nicely and without additional instruction. Highly recommend.

I have been showing this film in my middle school classroom for years (on VHS) and needed an update. It is warm, sometimes funny, and brings MLK to life as the boy who grows up to be one of life's great heroes. The characters'"voices" are familiar and every year the kids ask to see it again.

I showed this film to a mixed level high school group. Through out the film, the students were making comments "about how could this happen? Did you really see this?" etc. It is interesting to see that where as I lived a lot of this, these students only heard about it.The fact that it was low key and annimated let these students feel comfortable with their discussions. Unfortunately, they don't have an complete understanding of how much Mr. King did for us. The film is a good tool for discussion.

As for the person who complained that Martin Scorcese called the '80's the "me" decade, that was a popular theme of the time. Maybe you should go back and look at 80's and the literature about it from all kind of sources. Just like the 20's was often refered to as the "Roaring" 20's. 80's was often called the "me" decade. I also think it is not a liberal or conservative designation. Following the internalization of values and desires in the 70's, the 80's was when technology, growth, income and development all led to the application of the 70's trend of an individual ethic. People DID become more selfish and self centered, more complacent, in need of more instant gratification.

5stars - "STARTING TO WORRY" (S. C. MURRAY)

This series is so helpful to recall the chronological order of all of the things once learned in history classes at school. Hoever this series not only gives the facts, but adds a personal element to it by interviewing average citizens who remember the historic events recalled. By no means is this your "boring documentary". I have seen the series several times, and I still learn new things, and I still moved everytime, at the strength of our country and the tremendous blessing it is to live here.

As a couple of other reviewers indicated, this video set does a fair job hitting on all the major events affecting America in the twentieth century, but can't resist dwelling on all the ills - especially those of the Reagan era. The low point was Martin Scorcese's appraisal of the 1980's as being the "me decade" full of greed. Who made him an authority and why doesn't anyone in the media ever see the 1990's the same way, when the US was even more prosperous?

DON'T confuse this set with the other 12-volume set, "The Century," which addressed broader, global issues. THAT set is FAR SUPERIOR to "America's Time," especially the episodes on Hitler's rise to power, Lindberg's crossing the Atlantic, and the fall of South Vietnam.

This really is a great movie. Wells does a fantastic job as narrator. It's great fun and great entertainment. I remember watching this movie in the mid 80's on VHS and being freaked out about the end of the world predictions. Time passed and we're still here. The story is filled holes and lies, but it's all good fun just the same.

I, like so many other people here, saw this movie when it was originally broadcast in the 80's. I was a teenager and it frightened the hell out of me. Now, as and I adult, I just reordered it from Amazon Marketplace to view again with my family.
Some say the movie is inacurate. Some say it's eerily right on. Others consider it to be complete conjecture. In the end, the theme you hear in the majority of reviews is that if you saw this movie 25 years ago, it stuck with you. It ticked you off, or haunted you.
Personally, it freaked me out, but whether it's fact or fiction, or a mixture of both, no one can argue that it's entertaining, and worth watching! I would imagine that although the things that were printed on the net at the time of 9-11 were hoaxes, that watching this film post 9-11 has to be creepy even without specific mention of the towers.
It'll be interesting to see what effect it has on me now.
I only wish they would release it on DVD.

This sad but powerful video is a must-have for any English or History teacher dealing with the Holocaust. I *do* agree with many Holocaust survivors who urge teachers to NOT begin their units with such a film, but to use it as a tool that complements a balanced discussion of this horrific time period. I begin my unit with a study of poems from the book, "I Never Saw Another Butterfly," recommended by another teacher, and then proceed to this video. Finally, we read the book, "Night," by Elie Wiesel. I feel all the first-hand accounts really hit home the reality of the time, as well as the need to be wary of recurrences in such hatred today.

This was an excellent movie...If you are interested in this topic, you should check out the critically acclaimed books of Dorit B. Whiteman (she is a Holocaust survivor herself as well as a pysychologist): "The Uprooted", a classic which insightfully examines how some Jews (including many Kindertransport members) managed to miraculously escape Nazi occupied countries and describes the emotional aftermaths of their ordeals, and the more recent "Escape Via Siberia", which tells the dramatic story of a Polish boy who surived exile in Siberia and joined the only Russian Kindertransport.

I am a 6th grade teacher and I teach the Holocaust to my students. This video is one resource tool that I use. It is quite powerful and the students get so much out of it. Through accounts of survivors, drawings, paintings, and vivid footage, we are taken through step by step the horror of the Holocaust and how it happened, from pre-occupation all the way until they day the war was over. The stories are fascinating, the visual images horrifying. This video is intense, but not on the "sickly" level of "Night and Fog." However, if you are interested in this subject, I strongly suggest getting your hands on this movie.

First off, let me clarify in my personal response that I've never been a fan of the historical fiction genre. Historical fiction books bore me, and they never seem to contain the excitement found in contemporary fiction. Sarah, Plain and Tall, while more character-centric than most historical fiction books, still just didn't catch my interest. I was just glad that unlike many historical fiction books, this one actually didn't shove random historical facts down the readers' throats in massive clumps--the historical details were there, but very subtle. Still, the plot was too plain, with not enough branches and wacky plot twists. Everything was hopelessly predictable, and I know children's authors can do much better than that. That being said, I'd still like to read the sequels (never can pass up a good sequel!) to learn more about the characters, especially since the books are such quick reads.

This is a great book that leaves you with a good feeling when you finish. A warm story of motherless children who wish to have a mother and want to help their father to find one. She is from the coast and he is a farmer... could this work? Read the book I recommend it.

The story of Sarah, Plain and Tall by Patricia MacLaclan is a pioneer fiction about a family who needs a mother and a wife, and a lady who needs a home. It is sad, funny, happy, scary, exciting, and keeps me guessing.
Jacob Witting needs a helpful, hardworking wife and a mother for his young children Anna and Caleb. He puts an ad for a wife in the newspaper. He receives a response from Sarah Elisabeth Wheaton of Maine. In the early spring, Jacob goes to the train station to bring Sarah home. He dresses up and makes his hair very slick and shiny.
Sarah Wheaton makes herself at home with the Wittings. She helps clean the house. She goes and picks wild flowers with Caleb. They gather paintbrush, clover, prairie violets, roses, and bride's bonnet. She cuts Caleb's and Jacob's hair, then she braids Anna's long hair. She teaches Caleb and Anna how to float in the cow pond and they have fun. At night, all of them go to the barn to slide down the tall hay pile, just like the dunes in Maine.
Caleb and Anna love Sarah and hope she will stay. Caleb is six and really loves Sarah. Caleb cried when Sarah comes back from driving the wagon because he thinks she was leaving them. Anna is ten and helps with most of the housework. She is also worried that Sarah will leave.
Sarah misses Maine but she is happy with the Wittings. She says she will always miss her old home but she will miss the Wittings more if she leaves. She talks about wanting to drive the wagon. The neighbors come to help with the plowing and meet Sarah. Later Sarah and Jacob get married.
The book Sarah, Plain and Tall makes me joyful when Jacob finds a wife to marry. I like when Sarah, Caleb, Anna, and Jacob slide down the hay pile. Do you like fictional story about family life during the Pioneer times? If so, you will like this book.

This was one of the selected literature books for our home-school curriculum. We were delighted with this lovely book. It inspired us to watch the movie and order the rest of the books in the series. Very interesting story line.

but she allready missed the sea & sand dun's then papa had & idea so he went to the barn & mad e a hay dun & her & the kides had a fun time & thay lived happly ever after I recomed this book because it's easy & a great mstory for younger kids

I first saw this on The Documentary Channel and pretty much cried through the whole thing. I worked at a military K9 kennel in Japan in 2002 and those dogs are truly incredible. I think however, that trainers should not be rotated if they bond. I think they should work with the same trainer and retire together as well. It's a crime that they would ever be seperated like a parent from child and it bewilders me that the military should want to even play the part of seperating such solid bonds of friendship and thereby creating such profound sorrow. Military dogs are soldiers and not inanimate objects like the m-16 is. They should not be viewed as government property in certain intances and I think they should consider creating an application preocess for the trainers to pay for a replacement dog and retire with his dog in certain cases, dammit !!!

Forgive me if I vent a little: How is it that a marvelous gem of a documentary like this still languishes on a dying format (VHS) while idiotic drivel like "MTV's Real World" or "Sex in the City" pop right onto DVD? It's an irony that some of the best things are just kept in the can somewhere in a dusty archive waiting for a building fire.

I am a seventh grade English teacher and every year my classes study a Veterans Day unit. This video teaches an aspect of the humanity of the American soldier that nothing else I can present teaches. This video is compellingly compassionate towards treatment of animals in general, and specifically towards each of the featured dogs and their handlers in Viet Nam. Many of my students weep during the viewing of the video and no matter how many times I show it, I am always moved to tears. This video is so well loved it "disappeared" this year and I am frantic to replace it. I simply cannot teach the Veterans Day unit again without the slant this video provides, demonstrating graphically the emotional toll the dog handlers paid and the homage they continue to pay, these many years later, to the dogs who accompanied them in the jungles of Viet Nam. This video is tremendously AWESOME.

After watching this program on the Discovery Channel I have to own a copy of this vidoe. Very moving video,I have watched many war documentaries but have never seen one that honored the War Dogs. I had no idea what an important roll Dogs played in saving many lives during the Vietnam War. Excellent, emotional piece of work.

This documentary shows Elvis as he starts to go down a destuctive path. You can sense in certain scenes that his heath is in decline. It gives a "behind the scenes" feel as to what life on tour with Elvis was like. He sings great and looks cool as only he can.

Hello to all Elvis Fans. I purchased this VHS and reviewed it i must say it was everything i thought it would be. I am so glad that i have this even though it's on VHS it is a great video and lots of great performances by Elvis. If you don't have this by all means get it before it goes away for good. I don't think this will ever be on DVD and if it is it may not be the same quality as it is on the VHS. Every Elvis collector should have this in your collection. To see all the cities and the excited fans waiting to see him in concert and for a time you forget that this is a video you are watching because you get caught up in the excitement of Elvis going on stage and 2001 Space Odessy is playing and you know he is about to appear. Buy it before it's to late to me it doesn't matter if it's on VHS i'm glad i purchased it for my collection before it no longer exist.

Burning Love was the last big hit. His records were good until the end, but there was little recording the last two years. The film got the Golden Globe Award for Best Documentary. It is chaotic but worth it because it is candid Elvis. The quote from his father about guitar players not being worth a damn would not have come out a decade earlier. Elvis' songlist is filled with hits by other artists. His own Lawdy Miss Clawdy sounds as sexy today as it did in the beginning.

Elvis in 1972 was still at the top of his game, lean and mean and energetic. In "Elvis on Tour" we get a fantastic snapshot at the King in top form; I only wish 1 - that it was available on DVD and 2- that some of the concerts with clips included in the movie were available on video in their entirety. Very highly recommended!

I ageee to the fact that this records so much of what Elvis really was and still is. And even though we could not help but to see his beautiful stage clothes and how great he wears them, and at times his sadness, a more focus on his voice should be considered instead. This is a great dvd and a must not only for Elvis fans but for anybody that likes good singing and music,all along he displayed a terrific and powerful voice plus the compliment of his backup singers and musicians did the rest for the total scenario. Without a doubt the best entertainer that set foot on a stage ever. A man that gave his voice and total soul on every performance.

I'm 100% with all of you who say it should be released on DVD!!! I am rating this only one star not because it is a bad movie - the movie is excellent. It's because this item is VHS and it's a dead format. I haven't had a VHS player for years and have no intention of getting another one...

I saw this movie several years ago and have wanted to get it on DVD for years; which is why I found myself on this page. I want it and can't understand what reasoning the studio might have for releasing material that their customers want. Actually, the word idiot comes to mind!

I notice that someone is selling their VHS copy for $129. That's just insane! I wonder if someone will actually pay that for it.

One of the best martial arts movies of all time!!!!! The only problem with Jeff 's martial arts ability is that he is so fast that some of his movements are lost even when going frame by frame on a VHS tape. I'm really curious to see if that would be any better on a DVD. Get with it, movie studios! They are a lot of great movies on tape that should be on DVD.

I loved the movie "The Perfect Weapon" and I agree with others..It should be made into a DVD.. My children and I still watch the VHS tape...I have made several tapes of it since I am afraid once its gone that is it!!! DVDs last forever...Great movie..Good values from Jeff Speakman.

Buyer beware! The newer DVD set of this FABULOUS series is not up to the quality of this VHS edition. The DVDs are made by the History channel, and the sound quality is awful. This older VHS version, produced by New Line features (although on tape) has a much finer sound quality and even the video isn't that bad, compared to the lousey transfer of the DVDs.
These are still the finest chronicles of war footage AND narration that have been made of WWll, in my opinion. Try to get thru them without tearing up at the human sacrifice and bravery.

UPDATE: Mill Creek Entertainment now has a 3 disc DVD set for UNDER $10.00 with all the 26 episodes. I have compared them side by side PIP on my TV....Identical prints as the VHS tapes, only slightly sharper on the DVD's. Sound quality same as tapes, Great bargain!

Once considered one of the greatest TV documentaries ever made, no one under the age of fifty is going to be able to sit through this overblown, hoaky collection of war footage. The narration is so overdramatic it's almost laughable, like the propaganda films made during the war to increase morale. Roger's score is great music, but it's just too prominant and often completely inappropriate (like the cheerfull flute music as Hitler marches into Paris).Skip this dinosaur and go directly to World at War, the great BBC series from the 1970s.

Probably the most extraordinary documentary of World War II ever produced for television, the original 26 episodes of "Victory at Sea" have been collated into six VHS tapes. To own the original 26 volumes on individual tapes is a collector's treasure indeed. Virtually impossible to find in that format and, if you can find it, good luck on the price!Starting with "Prelude to War," each episode of the series focuses on a distinct naval engagement or campaign in the Second World War. Captured enemy film from various Axis sources enhances the vast collection of U.S. Navy and other Allied and private sources used to compile each episode. The narration by Leonard Graves is superb and the writing for the narration is equally prominent. Narration is always just right and never excessive allowing the viewer to relish the award-winning musical score with its familiar and sometimes haunting refrains. Three long-playing recordings of the original soundtrack and variations thereof from the series were released in the heyday of "high fidelity" recordings. Soundtrack CDs are currently available for those who enjoy the music as much as the video images. All footage is in black and white and there are some technical "deficiencies" for the purists among the viewing audience. However, considering the series made its television debut in 1952, the historical accuracy, content and balanced perspective are truly remarkable. In the episode centered around the climactic naval and island battle for Okinawa, Leonard Graves describes the kamikaze threat to the U.S. fleet off the island as a "duel between gunners who fight to live and pilots who fight to die." There is no judgment of kamikaze fanaticism a mere seven years after the end of the war. Episode after episode, it is a factual account of what occurred on the vast oceans and seas of the world without political inclination of any sort."Victory at Sea" is a true classic documentary of American television with the bonus of one of the most enduring soundtracks of any film presentation of any kind. It is a mandatory addition to the video library of anyone interested in World War II -- especially all aspects of the war at sea.
